The University of Leicester

The university overall is fantastic, I spent 3 years there doing a Computer Science degree (now Informatics) and the facilities in that department were outstanding. We had a whole dedicated floor just for Informatic students namely “the Lab” where students could use computers and ask questions to teaching assistants who were on a rota publicly available on the informatics resources website. On the topic of the resources site, this was a great tool to enable us students to obtain all lecture notes and exam papers etc. The university in general has great facilities, the David Wilson Library had been a great service (24/7) during the exam period when I had been struggling to concentrate at home. The students union honestly I did not use much but when I was there it was clean, had great service and plenty of variety of foods and drinks. The final discussion regarding the university is the O2 academy, this was a great facility that provided a great time during the week days of University to help us relax during busy and stressful times.

I really enjoy the content from my course, the library facilities are fantastic and my university has wonderful ways of networking and socialising, thanks to the student union and other societies formed.

I love my university! I’ve never felt unsupported during the 3 years I have been here so far and I am constantly pushed to be my best

A pretty good student union, they organise some great activities and nights out, as well as serious stuff, like careers fairs, and career related helps that are actually really good quality and very beneficial.

Fully enjoyed my course here, but I believe each experience will differ on department. The activities and events Leicester provides is outstanding. The problem everyone has is how expensive it is. Prices for the same food and drink products differ across the university, meaning you could end up paying over five pounds each day for your lunch alone. The university services need tailoring or more money needs to be invested into them. Students can end up waiting 6 months to see a wellbeing officer or just to talk to anyone about mental health issues.

Had the best 3 years of my life here, sad to be leaving! Campus university so all teaching rooms were within a few seconds/minutes walk from each other which was so concenient. Lovely staff who are genuinely passionate about what they do and this reflects in the quality of the modules. Amazing social/night life, the city never sleeps!

The campus is medium sized and most buildings and rooms are easy to find. The university library is small which means its difficult to find seats especially during exam seasons, however, the support available is great including additional maths help and guides on writing essays, group projects etc! The university and union provides great support and is very inclusive. The union actively promotes LGBTQ rights and women’s rights through campaigns such as HE for SHE. There is also a diverse range of clubs and societies especially for minority ethnic groups so all students have a community in which they belong. It is often difficult to reach out to lecturers and academics during office hours, however, they are happy to respond via email and some lecturers take a genuine interest in helping students with coursework and exams.

Leicester University is not that big, however, that makes it cosy. It is not as green as other universities but it has a park next to it. It is easy to get a student job here and the city itself is cheap. Everyone is very friendly here; even the security staff of the library. It is very international, so it is good to meet people from everywhere of the world.

Social life is great however the teaching is very poor. Some lecturers cannot speak fluent english and are very harsh at grading students.

Course is intellectually stimulating and thought provoking. The campus is relatively small compared to other universities but is still nice. Student union is okay, could be better but could be worse. Nightlife is pretty good on certain nights, range of music.

I have really enjoyed my time at Leicester University and will be sad to leave. I was drawn to Leicester on the open day because of the happy and welcoming vibe on campus -and this has continued throughout the years. I have found the campus to be the perfect size - not too big like some universities or to small and it is easy to navigate. There are also plenty of food options and places to sit on campus for lunch - the campus even backs onto Victoria park which is so nice to sit on during breaks in the summer! The library on campus is wonderful - it’s modern and they always have the books I need but you can easily order any book in and in general it’s a nice place to study. The student union is the main building on campus where people tend to gather- the vibe in there is also really friendly but I think more seating would be useful as it gets pretty busy during lunch time. In terms of societies and clubs, it seems that Leicester has something for everybody and though I haven’t got too involved in societies, a lot of my friends have only had good things to say! I prefer to use the gym- the gym on campus (a membership gives you access to the gym on campus and in Oadby) also has a pool and runs daily classes. I have had no issues with my course; I enjoy the lectures, the tutors are friendly and knowledgeable and always respond to emails quickly - which is definitely helpful! Would definitely recommend Leicester University!

Really good careers services and facilities. My course is great except for a project which they don’t explain fully or help with.

My Uni experience has been an amazing one but not down to the university itself! I studied English and with 4 contact hours a week and little guidance as to how to achieve good grades or be successful, the course let me down. The campus and facilities are nice, modern and picturesque but I personally found the academic staff unhelpful and myself isolted from academic or personal support.

I study media but contact hours are very less and I don't think I learn enough relevant things to apply for good jobs. The course is so broad. So getting summer experience is essential. The union is nice and lively. They try to get things done and it's good if you take advantage of all the free stufd they give time to time. The campus is also pretty nice and decent sized. Food isn't that cheap if you eat on campus often. Gym also isn't very cheap now.

The university has wide range of facilities for self study which become very useful during exam periods. The staff are generally been very good for engineering, but you must be able to self study well if you want to get a first.

I feel that the university of Leicester is a great place to study and do a degree with all the services and support they provide. The campus is half old and new, giving history and plans on improving. The students union is my favourite place to chill out and eat, they serve great hot and cold food as welll as delicious drinks and deserts. The library is open 24 hours almost everyday which is great when you need to do an assignment or prepare for exams.

A very welcoming university. I’ve nearly completed my first year and I’ve had an amazing experience so far. Everything from the staff, to the library to the student union has been brilliant. A wide range of clubs and societies to join as well.

There are great teachers and facilities in the modern languages department. In particular we have our own study centre which is useful for doing group projects and practising speaking with course mates. The uni is career orientated too! In my first year I completed the Leicester Award which is available to all students and it gives work experience opportunities to boost your CV.
