Everywhere in southampton is max a 30 minute bus ride away. The centre boasts a huge shopping centre with a gigantic food court and cinema as well as many other shops on the high street. There are many nights out in Southampton from studenty clubs in Portswood to giant ones such as switch and Oceana in the centre.

Coming from London, southampton is merely a “city”. Good things: its got a decent transport network that’s never really packed out, a nice new shopping centre (west quay) that has all the major highstreet shops including urban outfitters, topshop, h&m etc and a fresh cinema/restaurant area neighbouring it but there’s not much else to southampton apart from this shopping centre and it’s common. People-wise: Southampton would be nothing but a chav dockyard without the students provided by the two universities populating much of the city. There’s a clear lack of ethnic diversity but it’s not too uncomfortable. I often find myself bored in southampton however, nights out are great

Southampton has great student areas, but still needs some work in the downtown areas. There are lots of great bars, clubs and restaurants. For those inclined there are a few interesting museums, and it has very large shopping centre. The city has been working hard to improve the city's culture, but the main street still needs work with many shop fronts empty. The student-y places are all on accessible bus routes.

I love going out in Southampton as there are so many different clubs to go to for a different vibe, you can start your night somewhere chill like vodka revs or turtle bay and then depending on your type of night there are so many clubs that cater to you, for example the social , heartbreakers, orange rooms, Tokyo, Buddha ... and these are all within walking distance which make sure it even better, if you like a bigger more commercial night club then Oceana is the place to go and there is even a free bus here from the clubs mentioned first. Food is amazing, onto west quay they have just built a whole new food court which is great and has loads of amazing new restaurants ! My favourite personally is losteria, and my favourite Japanese restaurant in Southampton is Sakura !

There are lots of pubs, bars and clubs in Southampton but clubs are pretty naff. Closer to the city centre there are so many restaurants it's hard to chose where to eat out. The highstreet is a 10min bus ride from uni and there are Buses every 5min. The only problem is bus tickets are 2 pounds for a single or 3.50 for a return. You get a free bus pass if you're in uni halls of residence.

All student residences are extremely close to the city centre which is brilliant for getting around easily. It also means your more willing to get out and about and burn off all those calories from the McDonald’s you ate after a night at oceana. Lots of parks and pretty places to go and look at at. Although the parks are very dangerous after night and a few dodgy places.

The location of Southampton is perfect. Surrounded on both sides by beautiful countryside, including the New Forest & the South Downs; yet only an hour from London and minutes away from the south coast beaches. Southampton is a perfect starter-city for anyone who wants to be more in the thick of it during University. It also boasts West Quay for shopping, the Watermark for eating & entertainment, & numerous clubs for a good night out (including the infamous Jesters). Bus links are excellent, with the unilink bus meeting your every need for travel within the city & the cities railway system covering you for travel outside of the city. Southampton is in the South, so can be a bit more on the pricey-side. However, there are still decent places to live for a decent price & plenty of things to do for free or minimal charge. I would highly rate Southampton for its location.

Good location, not far from all the attractions and shops. Not too long to walk into uni and the coach station and train station are a reasonable distance.

Its a good bit to do in Southampton. The mall is very big and many different store to choose from. Prices on students nights are pretty good as well not to expensive for students. The school is accessible by bus which I have to take because I live in the city centre.

Big city with good shopping, there’s a big shopping centre with all the shops you’d need and an Ikea! The night life is good, there are lots of clubs and bars. It’s a good value city for living in as rent isn’t too much, which is good for students!

Southampton is a lovely city with good transport links. There's a lot to do and plenty to see. I think Southampton is an excellent area for students as it is very accommodating. University of Southampton halls are nearby campus with easy bus connections. There's plenty of nightlife across the city with bars, pubs and clubs.

Nights out are good, plenty of choice on nightclubs and somewhere to go any night of the week. Drinks are good value for money during the week.

Not much to do when the weather isn't good. Int he summer months its easy to go to the common for BBQs etc, and if you have access to a car you can go to the new forest or to beaches nearby, but this is hard without one. Nightlife is average, you get some good DJs, and transport is good around the town. Gets a bit boring by third year as apart from going out or going to the park theres nothing else to do.

Nice location, large areas that are great for summer such as the Common. Also very close to the new forest and nice beaches but only if you have access to a car. Is small enough that it doesn't feel too big/can get lost easily, but still feels like a city. Apart from outside things int he summer theres not much else to do compared to cities such as Bristol etc.
