The University of Portsmouth has a great location. Everything is easily within walking distance. Be that the actual uni buildings, the seafront, Gunwarf Quays or the nightclubs. Nothing is too far away particularly and it's quite easy to get around. Seeing as everything is so close together, you'll always be in an area of students which is quite nice. So Portsmouth is a brilliant location.

Portsmouth is in a great location on the south coast and the compactness of the city itself allows it to be an excellent place to study and live. Although the Uni doesn't have a campus as such, its various buildings and accommodation (bar Langstone) are all in reasonable proximity of each other. On the other hand, Portsmouth is a city where you're constantly on top of people so traffic during rush hour is even more of a nightmare than other cities of its size, so the fact walking is a viable and time-efficient option is a godsend. The City has decent nightlife though nothing special, but the culinary and shopping options at Gunwharf Quays which overlooks the harbour certainly make up for this. The actually city centre itself (Guildhall Walk & Commercial Road) have your more chain clubs and then budget shops, Guildhall Walk and the Square can be pretty frantic on a night out so always just be a bit cautious walking down there. Portsmouth's constant investment in the university doesn't always sit well with locals, but the skyline of the city has been vastly increased from a Thatcher's Britain filled with beige-skyscrapers to a more modern and characteristic scene. Although buildings like Greetham Street divide opinion, you can't deny Pompey has its own unique architecture and vibe.

Portsmouth might have its bad elements but its location on the south coast and compact setting on Portsea Island make it a great place for students to travel and live The University has no campus itself but various buildings around the city which are easy to get to, although traffic can be a nightmare at peak hours. The nightlife is decent but not amazing, I'd argue neighbours Southampton and Brighton are better experiences but Tiger Tiger and Astoria are good clubs. Gunwharf Quays is a beautiful part of the city with the most expensive, brand-name stores in town located there, but with a fantastic culinary row overlooking the harbour. On a sunny day, there and the seafront along Southsea are fantastic places for students, families and everyone.

Portsmouth is my home town so being able to come to university here allows me to stay close to family and friends. There is plenty to do here such as nightlife, history, lots of restaurants and cafes ideal places for socialising. Portsmouth is a small city so it makes it very easy for students to be able to get to places, there are trains and buses which run frequently. The university itself is located in the city centre which again is easily accessible to all of its students. For the course I am currently studying the facilities are amazing, and helps to providing the best possible education along with increasing skill. There are many services available to help students will all that they may require such as housing and finance, health and well-being, learning support and so on. Overall it is a fantastic university in a great location.

Nights out are ok with 3 clubs to choose from and lots of bars and pubs. Good shopping centre in commercial road. Lovely pier on the beach and funfair and arcades

Portsmouth isn’t a bad city, but most of the night life is clubs or places with very loud music. Sometimes it’d be nice for a more chilled night out. Also they could be more restaurants in the area of the University

Loads to do. For a city it’s not too large and intimidating. Loads of pubs littered around and in the just out of city areas it’s very homely. Beach is great and the pier is always entertaining too.

Great location, lovely seafront nearby, loads of nice places to eat out, the nightlife is alright but it gets a bit boring after a while as same people and same places due to the small size of the city

Portsmouth is a alright city to stay in, everything is close and walking distance. Not a busy city, nights out are okay but you get used to the clubs. The prices are fair and reasonable

The clubs are right by the halls, which is great for first years. Plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from both in Southsea and in Gunwharf Quays. The area always seems very safe and the beach is lovely in the summer.

Great shopping facilities, a large outlet shopping centre and high Street shopping, although it is in two separate areas of the city. Good clubs with lots going on pretty much every night of the week! Some nice eateries and small, independent cafes. Walks in southsea are very nice on weekends and a good variety of pubs

It's wonderful being by the sea and having the chance to run along the seafront. Quite cheap, esp. for the south of the country, although if you go far from the coast it does look rather grim. Overall, a really nice place with a great indie feel.

Portsmouth is a great city. Plenty of pubs and clubs with different vibes so there is something for everyone. There's also a shopping centre and gunwharf so whether you want something cheap from primark or designer from Ralph Lauren, Portsmouth is the city for you! Porta was voted one of the most affordable student cities

Variety of atmospheres for nights out. Gunwharf offer a more premium night out but still have student nights at Tiger Tiger. Guildhall have plenty of clubs/pubs as does Elm Grove, Albert Road, Palmerston Road and Osborne Road. Plenty of restaurants, Indians, Chinese, takeaways! Many do student deals or student discount so always have a look around. Plenty to do regardless of weather as Portsmouth is forever windy! Clarence pier, Southsea common.. beautiful in the summer. Bbqs etc on the beach. Plenty of shopping opportunities, gunwharf for upmarket ranges like ted baker. Commercial road for high street shopping.

The University of Portsmouth is in a great location, especially when you live in the halls. Not only are practically all the uni buildings close by, but the nightclubs are all really close by as well as loads of food shops and the general shopping area. Plus Gunwarf Quays is so close by which is great. Having the seaside only a 15min walk away means it's great to just take a walk and chill by the seafront. It's an amazing location in my opinion.

Everything is so close by you can walk it. The beach is ten minutes away, gunwalf is ten minutes away and the university is just a five minute walk away. If you want to get a taxi it's really cheap as well. The clubs are really close too, for all the girls wearing high heals its a nice easy walk.

Portsmouth is not the biggest of cities, most of the time it feels like a big town. Plenty of open spaces; down by the beach, on the common and a few parks. There is a number of things to do. Gunwharf Quays is a great place to find some offers on branded clothing and offers a range of restaurants for eating out. The cinema, bowling alley and casino are situated in Gunwharf. Commercial road is home to all the high street shops including Boots, Wilkinson’s, Waterstones, Primark, Topshop etc... Albert Road is full of wine bars, cocktail bars, pubs and restaurants. Huge diversity in places, definitely something there for everyone. Palmerston road is the Southsea shopping area, again has your basic shops and places to eat, drink and get some coffee near by. The city has lots of history, many museums and world war memorials can be spotted around the city. Finally, there’s a couple of clubs in Portsmouth, definitely not as many in comparison to large cities like Manchester. However, there’s always something on almost every night of the week. Different club nights are suited to different genres of music - always something for everyone.

Pretty cheap place to live, lots of old and new stuff, all really close on one island so just a short walk away

Well Portsmouth (aka pompey aka best place) is a university I go to currently second year and I am enjoying every single part of being here

Plenty to do with most places within walking distance as the city is so compact. Between gunwharf quays and commercial road there are plenty of places to shop. Being within a 15 minute walk from the beach is also an added bonus!

The city is really compact, everything useful is really close together so it's useful. There's loads of bars, pubs and clubs with loads of variety in terms of themes of nights out.
