University for the Creative Arts

Overall, the campus is very open, with a large grass area and a big tree in front of the university where a lot of students are seen sitting and lying down on and under the tree which gives a very welcoming vibe. There is a canteen but is very small and only has a few tables for students which makes it a bit difficult for a large number of students to eat lunch in. There are a wide range of facilities that the students are encouraged to use to help them with the development of their work, especially to foundation and access students. Examples of these facilities are dark rooms, printing rooms with Lino, dry point, etching, photo transfer and screen printing. Sewing machines, heat presses, cyanotypes, animation software, photography studios, 3D workshops, plaster cast and ceramics. All students are given inductions to all the facilities in health and safety and in using the equipment properly. The course I took was the foundation level in Art and Design, where you were shown each area of Art you can specialise in and end up doing a one week project in each area and then you decide which area you want to specialise in. In my experience, I feel the tutors need to give more one to one support and tutorials with the students and I felt very lost with what pathway and the style of what work I wanted to create. I specialised into lens based media and then changed to viscom. Both the tutors never had regular one to one sessions with any of the students in my class and never helped one to one with my ideas and my progression with my skills or my work. Because of this, I felt my work never got checked or looked at properly and could have been stronger overall for my final major project. However, the support of the technicans was very good and were all very helpful when I wanted to use different equipment and techniques. If I had a problem, I didn’t have a problem asking them for help and were all very helpful and friendly. Overall, I feel that the foundation studies course needs to be organised a bit more thoroughly by the course leader and the tutors altogether so students can get the best outcome for their portfolios and their artwork. Overall, I would say I had a good experience in meeting new people, having a new and positive experience and discovering a new world of techniques, influences and ideas in the Art industry.

The student union was basically non existent in my first two years, no freshers events and really badly put together. The campus was ok no student bar and food super over priced. Not enough seats in the canteen although they did expand this in my final year. The mental health services were sub par and pretty useless with one counselling session for me ending up in my walking out after the lady stared at me for half an hour not saying anything. The course was good and informative, the tutors were harsh but in the nicest way possible, pushing us to get our best grades possible.

I attended university for the creative arts, studying a foundation diploma in art and design and specialising in textiles. The facilities were very basic for textiles, however seemed to be a lot better for fine art, photography and graphic design. The tutors for my specialism were very helpful and knew a lot about what was necessary for a good portfolio.

Having just finished my final year at UCA studying Fashion Management and Marketing, I am still really happy with the course that I chose. Tutors are incredibly supportive, and work really hard to get great industry speakers to come in and speak to us about roles in the industry. Rare for a 3 year course, a compulsory internship is fitted into year two. Thanks to this, I feel as though I have a clear understanding of the industry. The university itself is quiet - not for people who want a busy SU and nightlife on your doorstep. However, London is only 40 minutes on the train, and Guildford and Kingston are closer.

The facilities are very good especially the the photography studio. The library and the member of staffs are always around to help if any is needed, the library is very big and love the idea that they have Mac and Windows computers for everyone who can't use the other.

I really enjoyed my time at UCA. The student Union is fantastic and made me feel really welcome. They also encouraged me to run for election and supported me when I won. Student politics is important to me so they were very useful.

The campus at Epsom looks really nice, with a good green area and the buildings are quite well maintened too. In terms of facilities students have access to a whole array of things, appropriate to the courses. One of the best parts is the library, which has a lot of great books, however most of them are focused on fashion and not so much on design or other areas.

An extremely Quiet campus, with facilities open for appropriate amounts of time. Incredible equipment hire department with knowledgeable and professional staff who offer expert opinions on correct technology to use. There are great facilities with abilities for screen printing and digital printing. Additional vast studio spaces, six studios available all year round to enable professional production of editorials. Across the board, helpful and friendly staff who are extremely experienced and well versed with the professionalism to provide expert opinion regarding practical and theoretical research

The foundation course at the university creative arts Canterbury is fantastic. The teaching staff are superb. There are many facilities to use. The sewing rooms, printing, 3d department of wood work, the dark rooms and equipment hire (that's free to use). Foundation is about building a wide and explorational portfolio. The course gives you all the supper to be able to experiment and use many techniques as well as helping you produce vauar work for future interviews.

Very good specialised university. Four different campuses, great for all types of qualifications including pre-degree through to masters. Tutors all experts in their field and very dedicated to helping students.

Amazing support for students and staff. Facilities available for everyone and a lot of facilities to use. Students are friends and the union is also very supportive and helpful, open to all who may choose to use it. The careers services offer lots of information to people and the help given is great. The campus is easy to get to, eassy to navigate and clean and tidy. The organisation of staff is adequate and are always available to help students. An amazing uni no looking forward to transferring to another campus in September!

The university is small but with that comes a sense of community. The facilities are all fairly new with renovations being planned/built. I attend the acting course which could do with its own performance space besides the local theatre however the teaching on the course makes up for lack of facilities. Every performance is a joy to do and all lectures are supportive, informative and good fun to work with.

I am an international student from America and am so glad I decided to go here. The tutors and all uni staff are very patient and open to your ideas. They push your ideas forward and expand them into something you never imagined with the right development. The studios, an equipment room, printing studios, and library are all avaible to you and more. It doesn’t work unless you apply yourself, but if you do it’s great.

UCA is a great place to work, I do the Acting and performance course which is still improving given that I’m part of the 2nd year group to do the course since it was introduced at UCA

The campus is really small so it's not too scary when you're new. The best part of the uni is that there's some good facilities that I've never seen or used before so good opportunities to learn new processes and skills. My course personally isn't the best I wish we had more direction and feedback to improve our work as we go. I've been at two ucas and as a uni it's very unorganised, plans always change tutors are clueless with timetables and events so you have to always check emails and alerts to see if things are cancelled or changed.

Im currently studying Architecture at University for the Creative Arts and the campus itself is a small complex and there is no doubt that you would be able to focus as there is so much inspiration being in the field of art and design. One thing that we all wish this university has is more social clubs and societies.

Amazing workshops for my course being Ceramics but apart from that there is a very little uni experience as there are very few sport societies and few su nights

The university and the lectures are amazing and always there to help but the student union isn't really present

I really love my university and my course. I am currently in my first year of fashion design at UCA, Rochester, and so far I am really enjoying it. In comparison to other universities UCA offers things that I wouldn’t have been taught at other universities, and because it is a smaller university the experience is much more personal; I get a lot more one on one time with my tutors than I would at any other university. It also has its own stores for art supplies at a discounted rate, as well as a haberdashery for fabrics, trimmings etc. Overall I am really enjoying my time at UCA and I’m very glad that I decided to go here.
