Great people, great nightlife, great experience, I ended up moving there permanently cause I liked living there so much. Incredibly diverse community plus it's a Labour city

I come from Northern Ireland and travel to Plymouth for my University. I love this location as I am beside the water, unlike back at home. Also the weather is alot better in the Summer time which I always enjoy.

I love that in Plymouth you have the mix of a city with nightlife and shops and restaurants and everything that you could need as well as having the open space feeling of living by the sea. Nothing beats sitting on the hoe next to the lighthouse on a summer day

Personally, I feel like Plymouth is a great place to be. If like me you're from a town in the middle of the countryside, you'll love how nice it is to live so close to the sea! Town centre is great and drake circus is full of shops that are reasonably priced! Although Plymouth boasts amazing sea views from the hoe, there aren't beaches, however there are plenty of beaches nearby that are easily accessible by trains that don't cost the earth!

It sounds appealing being in the "gem of the Southwest", and when the weather is good, you genuinely feel like you're abroad. However, other than that, Plymouth is a very run down city, very post-war and a lot of unemployed people roam the streets. The next biggest city upcountry is an hour away by train, or Bristol is 2 hours away. I found myself always commuting to these cities for shopping. That said, Plymouth is a very cheap city for drinking and for rental prices, but that's about it. In terms of getting to other parts of the country, its quite "in the sticks", London is 3 hours away on the train, anywhere up north takes at least half a day, and the closest airport is Exeter, which only flies to mediocre UK destinations. If you're looking for a uni town with a bit more "oomph" I'd say avoid any city SW of Bristol.

I absolutely love Plymouth! The university is fantastic, but the location is even better. There is so much to do here, we have the Barbican and the hoe to do some sightseeing, Drake Circus to do some shopping, and Royal William Yard for some dinner and cocktails! The night life is incredible, for both students and residents there is a variety of clubs, bars and pubs. With a choice of cinemas, there’s even some lefty to do if you don’t want to drink. Living by the sea truly is heaven, not to mention beautiful Cornwall right in your doorstep...what more could you wish for?!

Really good location, great for shopping, walks and nightlife. Also great restaurants and entertainment around.

I chose my university partly for the location. I love the sea and over the past year I have tried to spend as much time in it as possible. Also nights out are rather cheap winch is fun. There is also a lot to do in and around plymouth which means its difficult to get bored

Lovely location. Plenty to do and is near lots of beautiful places like dartmoor and Cornwall. The hoe is a great place to go in hot weather. It's nice if you want to go to a smaller city with still lots to do. Train station and coach station so even though he far out, transport is okay still.

The shopping is not very good, the nights out are fun. Value for money can really vary but you definitely can be clever with your money and make the most of it. The food is good with a pretty good choice of chain restaurant including those in Royal William Yard set in the beautiful setting.

On first arrival in Plymouth it appeared that there wasn’t a lot to do. The night life only seemed average and the choice of eating establishments for students limited. But as time went on the quirkiness began to emerge, highlighting how much Plymouth has to offer. Drakes circus, has the majority of desired high street shops and is located very close to the Barbican where more restaurants and cocktail bars can be found on the sea front. A short walk from this you’ll find the Hoe, perfect for a BBQ in the midst of summer or a pleasant walk all year round. North Hill is where you’ll find the more unique, student orientated places at lower prices and offering more creative products. There are also more hidden gems than first meet the eye, including the Elizabethan Gardens. To summarise, Plymouth has a lot to offer, but it may not seem like it straight away. You have to do a bit of searching and also be have an understanding that it is not necessarily the night clubs that make the night but in fact the people you go with.

Beautiful scenery surrounding plymouth, is quite isolated and has long journeys. Lovely in the summer due to the surroundings beach’s and hoe. The fact that it’s a small city means everything is within walking distance.

I live right inbetween the university and city centre, so I have easy access to everything. There is a big Sainsbury's about a five minute walk away from uni, and a real express about two minutes away. This is perfect for students Sainsbury's has everything you need and the Tesco' s stay open until 11pm. There is a wide range of shops to choose from, and there is also access to a wide range of independent businesses alongside the harbour (only a 15-20 minute walk away). There are boat trips, one of which goes to an island filled with history and activities that could last a whole day. There are also small sections of coastline where you can swim in the sea or relax on the beach. Perfect if you haven't had the coastal experience before.

Plymouth uni is cracking! You’ve have plymouth hoe for them sunny days as well as the student union which is always busy on a night out, cheap as well! About half hour from the city centre there is Dartmoor, would recommend going as the scenery is beautiful! With plymouth you have that city life but can also escape to the country as well!

Small town centre 1 min walk from the uni and from first-year halls but very well equipped with a shopping centre and supermarkets and regular markets/festivals going on in the town centre. Also the sea front is a 5 minute walk from the town centre and is perfect all year round but especially in summer, when even with thousands of visitors, it still manages to stay clean and a nice place to chill.

Living in plymouth and being so close to aldi and iceland is great for shopping and getting good deals. There is also a lot of takeaways which is great for us uni students especially when yu come back from a late lecture and don't want to cook

City was close to all uni buildings and the seafront was close. Close proximity to other pretty places in Devon and Cornwall. Town had everything needed with plenty of shops and bars etc.

Plymouth itself isn't the nicest city, however, it has a couple of nice spots and is close to many. The Barbican area is home to some of the oldest buildings, is on the water front and the ideal drinkong spot. Live music most nights and plenty of atmosphere. The Plymouth Hoe is the large open area looking out to see, particularly good in hot weather. Being so close to Cornwall, Plymouth is ideal for anyone who likes surfing with a drive time of just over an hour to Newquay. Overall a good location with plenty going on.

Loads of things to do and a great shopping centre. Lots of bars and clubs to go to all over Plymouth and great resturants to eat out.

Beautiful seaside town with charming historical buildings and and a functional community. Surprisingly good food options for vegetarians/vegans and friendly clubs and pubs. A variety of shops in the city centre but have seen better shopping malls.

As far as cities go, Plymouth isn’t the biggest, but I come from an even smaller city so it’s just right for me. The campus is slap bang in the middle of town so it’s really accessible. The uni offers free transport on certain buses for my course so when we’re required to be at other sites it’s not at our expense and the buses are fairly regular. The train station is a 10 minute walk from campus as well so that’s ideal. However, the roads are a bit hazardous and take some time getting used to. The student union is right in the centre of campus but loads of bars and clubs offer student nights and deals and I’ve had a great time every time I’ve been out. The student union has always got something going on as well so it’s worth giving them a follow on Facebook to keep up to date with their events. There’s plenty places to eat whether at the multiplex where the cinema is, outside of drake circus or going a little upmarket at fort William yard but you’re guaranteed to find a pasty place on almost every corner. Drake circus offers student nights very now and then with 10-20% off in almost all the stores! It’s not the biggest shopping complex but it’s got everything I would need. I feel the halls are a little overpriced but the nights out can be fairly cheap so it sort of balances out, there’s an Aldi close-ish so I shop there but there’s also a Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Co-op if you don’t fancy the walk. Overall I am enjoying my experience in Plymouth and couldn’t imagine myself being at any other city.

Good location. Lots of beaches near by. Dartmoor is close too nice to go for walks. Easy access by trains or driving. Lots of good coffee shops and a good variety of places to eat.

Plymouth is in a great location. It is close the the sea, where there is many water sports available, loads to see such as Plymouth Hoe, Mayflower Steps, Mount Edgecombe, Francis Drake’s island and so much more by the sea. Another great thing about Plymouth is the countryside, we are so lucky to get the best of both worlds, Dartmoor country park is very close and with stunning views that last for miles, Cornwall is only an hours drive too. It is also a great city vibe too, with a large shopping centre, great nightlife and social scene.
