Living in the city centre of Nottingham is great. It’s got an endless list of places to eat and there’s always an activity going on in market square or somewhere close. The locals are friendly and you never have to walk too far to find what you’re looking for. After being in Nottingham for 3 years studying, i love this place and I’m looking to move here after I graduate. If you’re used to the fast pace city life in London then sometimes Nottingham gets a bit annoying because it feels like they have no sense of urgency to do anything, especially at fast food restaurants they take ages. However, a little patience never killed anyone, so it’s something you learn to deal with.

Nottingham is well known for everything being reasonably priced. Housing is lowest in the country and activities are equally affordable. Unlike some cities there is a heap of trendy restaurants and bars with vibrant themes and good vibes.

The location of the University of Nottingham is excellent, because it is a campus university that is just 10 mins on the bus to the city centre. Therefore, you have the benefit of both the campus experience and access to a city of a good size, that has everything you would want. Nottingham has a good mixture of chains and independent stores/restaurants, so offers both your favourites and many interesting new places to try. It’s a large enough city that you don’t run out of new restaurants/bars to go to, but it is small enough that it is quite contained and you don’t feel lost or overwhelmed like you might in large cities like London. There are quite a lot of nightlife options, although students tend to choose to go to the same few places all the time! There are plenty of other places to try though if you want to explore.

I’m studying at the UoN Sutton Bonington Campus. Although there is a free bus to the main campus in Nottingham city centre this takes half an hour and is not always as frequent as I’d like it to be. It makes going on nights out more effort and more expensive as a taxi to/from Nottingham costs £18.50. Sutton Bonington has one corner shop and there is a small shop on campus. In Kegworth (town where most students live) there is a co-op which is 5-10 minutes drive from campus and around 25 minutes walk. The nearest big supermarket is in Loughborough - 15 minutes drive. Sutton Bonington is quite rural and although it is quiet and pretty other than walking there is not a lot to do. Plenty of shops bars clubs and restaurants in Nottingham however if you are willing to take the bus.

Nightlife not too expensive, quite a lot of variation in different nights out with frequent live music events. Regular public transport into the city centre that runs quite late into the night.

Location at WBS is ok. The campus is beautiful but the traffic is always dreadful and it takes ages to get in and out even if you only live a couple of minutes away! However, the campus is lovely and the facilities are great.

Nottingham has something for everyone all year round. The nightlife in Nottingham is varied and caters for different tastes - check out Ocean, Shapes, Pryzm, Bubblin’ and of course Crisis.

Nottingham has great transport around the city, you can get round by car, taxi, tram, bus or train. Everything is centred right in the middle of the city which means you can walk to everywhere if you wanted.

Nottingham is like a mini London for me, all the perks of having attractions and things to do in and around town but not as busy A lot cheaper to live in too, whilst still being a good city to have a night on the town in The city centre is fantastic and the two universities bring a lot of diversity, very cultural too

Loved living there, there was everything I needed e.g shopping centre pharmacy supermarket etc within a close proximity. It was a pleasant atmosphere and at time very lively and energising. Very accessible to other cities or an airport nearby and also to home. Really recommend it if your course is being taught at one of the two universities here.

Great city, a big shopping centre with plenty of shops. A good cheap northern town. A great study city - big enough so you cannot get bored within 3 years but small enough to be able to walk all around the city centre and not be too overwhelmed when you move there!

Nights out are decent in Nottingham, we have a lot of bars to suit lots of different tastes. The clubs are fun but you might find yourself getting a bit bored of the same nights every week especially if you're looking for something a bit more alternative. There are a lot of cool places to eat out now that cater all sorts of tastes and requirements. A lot of students seem to be obsessed with Taco Bell and we have the only Hooters in the country! Some really nice independent pizza and burger joints too. Shopping is probably where the city is lacking compared to other big cities. You'll find mostly what you need in the two shopping centres but they don't really compare to other cities. It's not terrible, but not great either.

Incredible variety of nightlife from clubs to bars , with different music from indie, to rock, to mainstream pop. The number of different restaurants offering a vast array of different cuisines is staggering. Clubs and pubs are cheap and the range of shops will suit any budget. You will never be bored in Nottingham.

Nottingham is a small enough city that it very quickly feels like a home. With an incredible music scene, there’s a gig of some sort happening somewhere across the city every night, meaning those who love live music will be able to discover hundreds of new bands whilst in Notts. Because everything is quite condensed and central, everything is easily accessible by foot (however there are great bus and tram links too). The Lacemarket/ Hockley area, though only five minute walk from the market square, feels like its own little world, full of independent shops, bars, and music venues. For those who enjoy shopping there’s a multitude of both large chain and also quirky independent stores. For foodies there is literally every restaurant/ cafe you could possibly dream of. For nights out there is a club/ bar for everyone’s differing tastes. For history nuts there’s the castle, cave tours, historical pubs such as Ye Old Trip and The Malt Cross... and for scenic views you don’t have to travel far to reach the picturesque Wollaton Hall, the legendary Sherwood Forrest, or even a summers walk down the river Trent to Beeston lock if you’re feeling adventurous. Due to the city’s high student population with both Uni Of and Trent Uni nearby, it’s so easy to make friends and get to know people from all walks of life. The concentration of students in town also means you always feel very safe. As a young woman who’s grown up in a tiny village in Buckinghamshire, I’ve not once felt unsafe in Nottingham, even at night time or when walking alone. I could go on typing forever, but I wholeheartedly believe that Nottingham truly is the best place for a student/ young adult to live in the UK - I never want to leave!

Nights out are alright but I don't live in the city so it's annoying to have to find transport home after. Food is not as affordable as I would like it to be. There should be more student promotions. There's not much to do in Nottingham but that doesn't bother me too much. I like that Nottingham is fairly close to London and that there are cheap transport options.
