Sausage rolls

Of course, it wouldn’t be right to leave out the humble sausage roll in this blog. They’re so good, even the classic Greggs sausage roll has now got a cousin, the vegan sausage roll. Both have received great reviews as an uber comforting warm food that people just flock to. Hungry and in town? Get a Greggs. So, we already love Greggs’ sausage rolls, and the recipe doesn’t need changing at all. But… we’ve also come up with some ways you can make some spectacular sausage rolls at home.

For spooky Halloween sausage rolls, wrap the sausages up in strips of pastry, making the sausages look mummified. For added effect, dip them in spicy tomato sauce or sriracha for a spicy trick that’ll look like blood. If you’re looking for other spooky recipes, you’ll love this post

Make them punchy with a little chutney. You can experiment with this one, but we know that pork goes well with apple sauce (think roast dinner). Try out different chutneys, perhaps cranberry goes better with sausages than apple ever did?

Love it or hate it, you’ve got to give Marmite a go in your sausage rolls. Marmite has released so many different products, from peanut butter to flatbreads and crisps. So, who’s to say a Marmite sausage roll wouldn’t be a massive hit? Or, just use it as part of your trick or treat spread. Muahahahaha. If you’re not the biggest fan, try brown pickles. The vingaeryness of the pickle will complement the sausages. Yum.

Get inspired by other flavours, such as Indian curries, Chinese spices and hot wings. Slather the sausages with a sticky glaze, or add in a bit of curry sauce before wrapping with the pastry and popping into the oven. Did someone say innovation?

Sausage sarnie

Another classic, the sausage sandwich is already a legendary meal, or snack, in itself. So, how can it be improved you might ask?

Get creative with the bread you use. Think sourdough, naan bread or even doughnuts to add a new twist. Who doesn’t love a bit of salty sweetness?

Make a grilled cheese and sausage sandwich. Test out different cheeses and add-ins, some that we’d recommend are cheddar and wholegrain mustard, mozzarella and pesto or feta and tzatziki. Bringing in other flavours to your sausage sandwich can completely switch up the taste. Hello, new addiction right there.

Bangers and mash

Your Sunday lunches are going to get a whole lot better with these additions.

Amp up the gravy and mash - add a bit of cider to your gravy, or mustard to your mash.

Make it into a Sunday roast by wrapping your bangers, mash and gravy in a giant Yorkshire pudding. We’ve seen roast dinner wraps sold at Christmas markets and they’re delicious. Chuck in a bit of veg for health, too. You’ll find this version of sausages and mash easier to eat, too!
