When I first joined the university, this was considered quite a clique-y society, with quite a big off-stage/on-stage divide, but I think things are definitely getting better in this regard. One issue that still stands is that if you don't get a part when you audition, and you don't make it onto offstage, your options are quite limited re. getting involved in the society. However I don't think offstage ever gets full, and this isn't a Newcastle - specific issue, but something all theatre societies have issues with unfortunately. Lots of socials throughout the year, both drinking and non-drinking, and a fantastic trip abroad every January - it's a long weekend spent somewhere in Europe. Would definitely recommend the society to anyone interested - it really did define my uni experience.
