Egham Town

I love my uni (RHUL) to bits, but Egham is a bit dead. But, it's close to Staines/Windsor and, above all, London, so it's not bad at all.

There isn’t much to do in or around egham. Staines if fine for shopping and Windsor’s an OK nightlife, but other than that, you’d really have to go into London to do anything, which isn’t always a feasible option (due to train delays, money, timing - especially if you’re going for a night out). You think you’ll make it into London a lot before moving here, but once you’re here, you don’t go nearly as often. Egham’s still a fine place, but nothing really happens here.

Absolutely no nights out in town, nearest is Atik in Windsor. There is a Tesco’s and Waitrose (which is too expensive for the average student) for grocery shopping. Also a few Asian food shops, a noodle bar, Kaspa’s, amazing chicken and chips shop, fish and chips, Prezzo and numerous charity shops.

I’m not going to lie, the area around Royal Holloway University is shit if you’re a clubbing type of person. There’s a couple of pubs around but not much else, and not a club in sight (other than the SU on campus). The shops are okay, there’s a Tesco, Waitrose, and shops like Superdrug and Boots for essential beauty items. However, there is not much in the way of clothes shops which is also pretty disappointing. The transport is fairly good, with a train station about a 15 minute walk from the uni, and buses to and from the uni run regularly. I guess the best part about being here is that you are close enough to London to go there easily - but not too close that it’s busy and full of traffic. All in all, I’d give Egham town a 5/10 for location (mainly due to the lack of clubs and bars).

Not much to go out, especially restaurants, prices are same (sometimes even more) than London and the shops are just for essentials, I wish we had at least wilko here or poundland or something, I have to travel to staines. For the day, we don't even have anywhere decent to eat, either snacks or expensive restaurants. A pret or such would be nice too. I like the waitrosse though, it's very clean and nice. The public transportation is extremely overpriced. One bus stop journey is a 1.5-3£ single trip.... That is just ridiculous and cash isn't even accepted.

There's almost nothing to do on nights out or in general but the area is really nice and lots of countryside, there are a few nice restaurants and plenty of takeaways.

Boring town, with good connections to London. Student housing is average, and shops and amenities are ok!
