Chester

Chester is a beautiful small city surrounded by countryside. It has great links to Liverpool and Manchester which can be reached in less than an hour by train.

Really great city for students as everything is within a walking distance! Loads to do in Chester with plenty of events on and festivals nearby. It's definitely a student city and there's lots of very good offers on around the city throughout the year!

Lovely city with plenty to do and not too expensive. Lots of heritage, although not very big city- there's lots of restaurants and bars for a decent enough nightlife. Bus and rail links are good, easy to get to liverpool or manchester if you want more.

Chester is rather dull, there are only two nightclubs which are very similar which means nights out get a bit boring. There are many cities close to chester with good nightlife like Manchester and Liverpool. It's quite expensive to live in Chester compared to what I'm used to in Yorkshire. There isn't too much to do in Chester, as everything is expensive, however it is beautiful to walk around.

Love the location of my uni! Small but busy city with everything I need within a 20 minute walk from halls including pubs and clubs. Plenty of choice for a good night out and great prices in most. Easy to get around and very pretty and clean city too!

Can’t comment on the nights out aspect, as that’s not really my thing, but the location of the campus itself is really good! It’s outside of the actual town centre but not too far away that it’s not an age to get there. Good bus links, and there’s a few Starbucks and Costas on campus so you’re never really stuck

The city of Chester is a very nice place to visit with amazing pubs and restaurants to go to and enjoy a nice drink with your friends or have a very decent quality meal for a very reasonable price. The night life in Chester is very poor with only two main clubs however if you prefer to go to the pub with your friends more then Chester is the place for you as it has plentiful bars with more choice than you need. There are lots of shops in and around the Chester area if a decent shopping day is what you’re looking for then Chester is the place for you as there is every shop you could think of or want in the area with plenty of decent restaurants with good value for money. There’s plenty of entertainment available around Chester all for good value for money.

Nights out are really bad, it's too expensive. Food is not bad, there needs to be more options though. Shopping is really good.

Although my campus isn’t directly in the city centre it’s stull perfect as it’s within walking distance.

Chester is a city so has all the good things a city does - plenty of shops (high street and top end) as well as plenty of places to eat and drink - but it is the size of a big town so everything is here that you need but it's all in walking distance! The University and all of the possible accommodation remains in walking distance to the uni and also to the city centre and there is only a short, cheap bus ride to Chester Zoo and Cheshire Oaks!!

Lovely historical city full of culture, restaurants and bars, there's lots of places for socialising and shopping for little or large budgets. It has only 2 nightclubs but they are popular and stay open late. With the large main train station, it has transport links to most areas in the country.

As a country girl, the thought of moving to a big bustling city for university did worry me a little, but upon arriving at Chester I realised my anxiety was completely unwarranted. Chester is a small city with a lot of character, famous for its Roman wall that circles the city, it's packed to the brim with history. You can get a tour of the city from a Roman Centurion, or go exploring yourself, I highly recommend walking along the wall, it offers excellent views. There is also a beautiful cathedral that's worth a visit, as well as the remains of a Roman Coloseum but if history isn't your thing, there are many other attractions like a falconry, two-level streets with a wide range of shops, from New Look to Penhaligons. It also has a wonderful range of tea shops, cafes and restaurants, including a tapas bar, a French restaurant with a gorgeous vegetarian dish, and a cafe that sells plants too. Chester is best at Christmas though, when the street lights go up, the Christmas market arrives and the ice rink opens. The night life is good too, with a few popular clubs and bars, and because it's a small city that's not too busy it feels safe at night to go out with friends. The uni is only 10 mins from the main city centre, and so glad I chose Chester.

The city centre is a five minute walk if that to the town centre where there is a huge range of shops from superdrug boots, b&m, McDonald's, all popular clothes shops such as new look, next and primark!! There are so many things.to do including a park where squrrials are so domesticated and you can feed them and they aren't scary! It's a 15/20 minute walk to the train station so it's easy to explore any nearby cities, and even the Chester city wall which will take you around the whole city

Chester itself is a lovely city, fantastic history and architecture. Lovely for hanging out with friends. Just outside of Chester is a fantastic outlet village with most of the best on the high street brands that you want in such place.

Easy access to city centre from campus. Many supermarkets within walking distance. Public transport is okay.

Rich culture, beautiful area and great nightlife (Rosie’s is the place to be). As an art student I am particularly fascinated by the beauty of Chester; from its green parks to ancient Roman buildings - it has everything I could possibly want - right on my doorstep too!

It is a brilliant place to live there’s lots of places to eat and hang out. I enjoy trying out the various different cocktail bars as well as the surrounding shopping centres

Expensive place to live but overall not too bad, area is seen as quite posh so results in slightly higher living costs. Other than shopping minimal activities to do in chester city centre as a young adult/teen unless have a car or willing to travel 40 mins to Cheshire oaks on the bus. Two night clubs available, and plenty of normal, cocktail and indie bars and pubs would recommend if you prefer bars to clubs. Would recommend for an older/ mature student but less so for a younger, out going student. Although close links to liverpool and manchester if you have friends there to go out there!
