University of Southampton

Overall a very nice campus with great support from lecturers. The halls are to a very high standard and aren’t overly expensive, however do tend to be quite spread out over the city. The unilink bus pass is a must for a few halls of residence. The city itself is brilliant for shopping and nightlife, although it isn’t necessarily the safest place to go out at night. The university is very helpful with getting home with ‘SUSU night buses’ which essentially taxi students from individual clubs to the halls at request. There does seem to be an obvious disparity between the money spent on BA courses and BSC courses, with BSC students experiencing far more contact hours and overall a nicer and more modern campus. The facilities that the uni offers are excellent, with enormous gyms and swimming pool, and the lecture halls being in general very spacious, comfortable, and well kitted.

It’s amazing that it’s a Russel group, however I think the difference from other unis stops there. You can tell that there is lots of innovative research happening but unfortunately they don’t encourage you (even as a postgrad) to get involved. I feel the library is a great space to work, that actually has enough seating etc for everyone, but the journal access isn’t great. The campus itself is spacious and pretty, it feels like a nice place to be. Overall some moans but pretty good.

It's quite a good university. Staff are always very supportive and give you many opportunities to get involved with extra activities

Lots of green space, though some buildings could do with updating. Overall a great community feel to the place, with good amenities on campus and close by.

The campus is alright, no pretty buildings or anything, just a bit of red and grey bricks! Uni club = awful Economics course had the worst lecturers. Very disappointed The uni grad ball though great! Uni of Southampton’s effort in events and things were ace. They try so hard and are still yet to fully succeed.

Campus is beautiful and the facilities are too quality. My course is very interesting, allowing a range of topics and cross course areas to be explored. The careers service are very informative and helpful for helping people secure work and support during the application process.

Nice campus, lots of outdoor space, not enough space in the library, friendly atmosphere, lots of choice of societies, quite a small city but good nightlife

The University has a pretty campus with lots of gardens. The university also provide a large range of courses, specifically economics is extremely well taught and I would recommend the University to any student. There are also many societies to get involved in and many opportunities to get involved.

The Waterfront campus is excellent. All the facilities and the library are near ideal. Career services could be improved as it feels very generic.

University has a large campus and large university. There should be more spaces for students to study other than the library but I think they’re building that for 2020.

Really amazing campus, great course, only let down is that most people attending here are really really boring and lack any personality.also the vice chancellor is a terrible person for making cuts to services whilst taking a ridiculously large salary and bonus.

Very supportive staff, and engaging lectures The campuses are tranquil, with lots of greenery. Overall, a great uni experience.

The campus is a bit weird to navigate (buildings are numbered in order of being built I think?), but you get the hang of it eventually and there are maps everywhere. It is becoming more gender neutral (more unisex toilets), so is being more inclusive towards trans/gender-fluid students. There is a massive library in the centre of campus, with plenty of computers and desks.

Campus is very nice, has a close feel to it. Lots of facilities such as various cafes, shops, hairdressers, a pub, sports halls and a gym. Library is big and lots of computers available to students.

The lecturers and helpful and informative and tend to give good feedback on work submitted. Some lecturers are less helpful than others but the module coordinators are usely there to help instead.

Nice campus and good facilities, some lectures not so great and seem unmotivated at times. Some of the lecture rooms are a little old but overall quite good. Lots of lectures are recorded and put online which is good for revision during exams. Gernally assignments are explained well and good guidnece but marking takes a bit too long (4 weeks) and is sometimes posted even later than that.

The university is great when it comes to social events and bringing people together. The campus is quite odd especially when you could have a psychology lecture in the chemistry building, it’s almost a fun experience. The facility is good at responding to request and sorting out problems especially during this period of strikes.

The campus is very collected and all the important services like food and cafes are in the middle. The campus is logical and some buildings are very new.

Very clean campus with large open spaces, great study areas in the summer. Sports facilities are good but they are expensive. My course is interesting, i only have 10 hours a week though so its not really worth the £9000 a year. The union is good but it barely ever hosts student nights out

needs a better gym. football is called off too much. teaching is very meh. Spaces for learning/revising are fine. cafe and other uni bars are good.

Overall, The University is really great. What I like the most about my studies is the help that I receive from variety of different teachers. However, because my campus is in Winchester and not Southampton I feel like I am often missing on opportunities that are happening at the main campus.

Beautiful campus. Everything you need within 10 mins of each other. Student union could be better as there are not many events that actually involve the union- more use of city clubs instead. These clubs are good at catering for students though!

Excellent staff in my department of Archaeology. Overall a good selection of modules, however, some are unhelpful. For example, the skills and methods modile in second year is too basic to help with a dissertation, and is much more suited as a first year module. Combined honours degrees are also unbalanced, with compulsive modules hindering flexibility meaning it can be challenging to do the modikds you want to without clashes.
