University of Durham

The campus I am at for my course is the main reason I chose Durham University - it is small, and offers everything students will need in one place. With the move of my course to the main campus in the next year it will be exciting to see the changes that occur and to be able to access more of the Student Union services and events and to make the most of the larger Careers Services in my final year.

Accommodation is nice, the student union is also good but doesn’t hold as many events as I thought they would. We haven’t yet been offered any career services.

The university on the whole is excellent- the collegiate system is very clever and enables you to form close knit friendships within college. Durham’s chemistry department is one of the best in the country, as well as in the world, although the style of teaching is old fashioned and doesn’t seem to have progressed into the more technological age. The facilities are wonderful, and we are extremely lucky to have what we have, although staff in the labs can be quite hard to get along with. I’ve had many great experiences here in the first year.

An extremely nice University. One of the best for continuing sports or engaging in musical activity. It's quite diverse as well and you can meet students from all over the place. While the studying can be pretty hard it all depends on your previous education. Some find it hard but honestly I think it's quite chill so wouldnt worry too much.

On the stockton campus so not quite as good as the Durham one. Great facilities and fantastic lecturers.

Campus is clean and student friendly. Sometimes near exams study spaces will be filled up but good thing the colleges have study spaces too. I love the collegiate system as I met a lot of friends from different courses.

Durham is a great city to study in. It's a small place (the city is basically a uni campus) so everything is only a twenty minute walk away from everything else, and even if you start to miss big cities then Newcastle is only a short train ride away and you can buy a return for about a fiver. Walking by the river is beautiful in summer and when the cobbles of the old Bailey and the roof of cathedral are covered in snow it feels like you are studying at Hogwarts.

The campus is good and well organised around the city, although the facilities aren't very good except for sport. The course is interesting but the lecturers are awful.

The uni is great for sport, socialising and is in a nice location. The housing is expensive however, free buses are provided around the area for students. The library is large but always extremely full, but there are other librarys arounf durham to go to if this is a problem.

Durham campus is very beautiful and peaceful. However, as it is city-based, walking from one building to another can take up to 20 minutes, which sometimes, is possible to get to another class on time. Buses are always late has been the major problem. Library is nice, but there are insufficient books and seats. Gym is far and small. However, all the staff (lecturer, college staff, counsellors, tutor) here has been very helpful and attentive to help. There is always someone to turn into. There is also a service called Nightline run by a student union making sure students' problems are listened to.

The Durham bubble is very much a thing, everything you need is close by. No one really uses the student union and most people don't know what it does. The careers service is good if you can get an appointment but other than that there are plenty of career presentation evenings.

Beautiful campus with all facilities within walking distance. Hundreds of societies to get involved with - something for everyone. Halls are overpriced.

The campus faculties are not enough, especially for student clubs and societies. The teaching is fine but sometimes the course materials are not good enough. The student union is average I guess but I can see it is improving. Careers services is available but ideally should have more support for overseas students as getting a grad job in the UK becomes nearly impossible for overseas students these days.

My course (history) has great resources and teaching, it's difficult but interesting. The department can be a bit unorganised at times. The students Union has no real contact with the rest of the university, but that is because it's collegiate.
