University of Cambridge

It’s a bit daunting to review Cambridge because of the place that it is, and presumably nothing I say would make much of a difference to how people do perceive Cambridge, so.

ImI at Queens' College and its got the loveliest atmosphere. The only let down is our common room isnt too good. The union is not as impressive as other places, but the careers service is excellent and so is my course which is a hunanities.

The collegiate environment produces a really nice atmosphere where you can feel comfortable making new friends. It also provides an extra opportunity to meet people as you can have a mix of people from your course and college. The councilling services available to students are amazing, though the waiting list is very long, most colleges have at least 4 ports of call to speak to if not more. The accommodation is very cheap compared to most other unis with a lot of colleges offering student accommodation for all years of study.

I had an amazing time studying here and made some amazing friends. The nightlife was great and I really enjoyed my course. However, I was really struggling with mental and physical health problems and the university did very little to support me. The university counselling service told me that my case was too complicated and nobody could help me. My tutor asked invasive questions and then when I refused to answer, congratulated and thanked me for not making him uncomfortable. My Director of Studies outright asked if my physical and mental health were as bad as I was saying they were (I literally couldn't walk but okay). I felt like no one cared or wanted to help me, and I eventually dropped out without finishing my degree because the support was so poor.

Beautiful college based campus with well equipped and easily accessible on-site facilities. However, the challenging academic environment and at times hostile student body makes it somewhat difficult to assimilate as an international student.

Great amount of course content, great facilities and teaching staff. Great accomodation, pastoral help and financial help. But often work load too much.

A good university. It also has really good arcitecture. It also has really good clubs and societies available, such as netball, football and environmental society. Development studies is a really good course, with not too much work so you get a good work life balance. The lecturers are really engaging and they are experts in their field. Cambridge is also a really nice city, with good nightlife and lots of things to do such as shopping or the cinema.

Some courses are a headache purely due to archaic methodologies of teaching, the clubs are absolutely useless for good music. But it's full of lovely people, particularly the outer colleges and the clubs are a great way to see friends you otherwise don't see because you are in different colleges.

course is great- very interesting and well explained. college system gives a good community feel and a wide range of activities available. Lovely city to live in, very safe.

My course content is very interesting and broad though I'm doing Psychological and Behavioural Sciences and I wish there was more psychology in the first two years! My accomodation as it has all the facilities I wanted although I wish there was a better shared kitchen or at least a social space like a common room. I think Cambridge as a city is a great place to live as a student as nothing is really too far away and everywhere I need to go is accessible.

Overall the university is really good and the lectures know their subjects really well. Some are not as good as others but that to be expected. Can be large variation in the supervisors with some being great and some very much not.

Plenty of study space and expertise at my fingertips here, but the cost of living (rent, food, etc) is extortionate. Also, the workload is very high, but that's to be expected.

Cambridge as a place offers so many unique experiences and the chance to take part in many things i feel i would not have done otherwise. It is very hard work but you feel like you are really getting value for money. However the college system has flaws and the accomodation can be unsociable. The wealth of the different colleges means that student funding can be unfairly distributed.

I am studying (biological) natural sciences. The course, although interesting, is extremely intense with very long contact hours including supervisions, labs and lectures. However, it is very flexible in that there are a lot of module choices so you can do a mixture of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics to gain a breadth as well as depth of knowledge. This is perfect for students who are not ready to commit to a specific subject yet. There are also exciting modules such as Earth sciences and Material sciences available.

Incredible experience, so much pastoral support, and so many opportunities. Organisation of my course is not so good, as compared to other courses i often feel I am having to work more independently.

I’ve had a great time so far in my 2 years. Very high quality teaching and a really friendly environment in my college with plenty of support available if you need it.

I go to Emmanuel college and the halls are amazing, good prices for the facilities you get with it (Inc free laundry service once a week). Modern and Medieval languages is a great and diverse course and allows you to study what actually interests you. Emmanuel's professors are understanding and look to help you along the way as much as possible. The porters and staff are friendly ( as is everyone in the college).

A beautiful, old city, the university being established in 1209 gives the whole place a truly historic feeling. Tonnes of facilities from sport centres to concert halls to soon to be ice rinks. My course (mathematics) is notoriously difficult, however it's rewarding. Careers service allow you to feel like no profession is too obscure.

Amazing university. Has a huge amount of history which is felt just walking around the buildings and the place. Really good teaching from experts around the world and small one on one or two on one teaching meaning that you really get your value for money.

I think I've received an incredible education for the money I've paid. It is really hard work (i.e. 7 days a week for 8 weeks straight), but the mentorship I have received on a one-to-one basis has been amazing. While the pastoral support system is seriously flawed, I'm graduating as a confident and competent student with a great circle of friends.

Mixed experience. Masters level degree very didactic and not centred on principles of interactive adult learning. Long days. Enjoyed warm college atmosphere. Hard to link to range of student groups if missed freshers fayre. Excellent counselling services

The university is great, very support faculty. The staff mostly support students and I have always felt they are passionate about their jobs. As daunting as uni is, there a help there

Good breadth and availability, bit stuck in their ways on some fronts. But in general a hell of a lot better than is made out by the papers.
