The society I have chosen to talk about is the Chess Society, as it is an activity is often overlooked by young adults. I consider the society to be one of the best to go to, as there is no prejudice towards anyone and socially we are all great friends. The atmosphere is always friendly and there is never any sense of over competitiveness. The society takes part in 3 main events during the year. The first is the Dyfed league, where the University competes against other teams, in the hope to win the league. It takes place from October, until May. The second competition is known as 20/20, where universities and clubs compete to win expensive prizes and title of the best club in the UK. The third is Sonora to 20/20 and is BUCS. Here universities compete against each other in a very well organised competition, which last 2 days. These competitions allow us to get to know each other bet and create a great bond. Socially, we meet up every Friday for drinks and this normally past anything from 3-6 hours. We have clocks and boards thanks to the money we were given from the uni, these are crucial in making sure we can carry on as a club. With a annual Payment of only £3, I consider it to be great value for money. Overall the society is successful, extremely friendly and well worth going to.
