Nice town with a lot of history and a castle. Highwoods is also a great place for walking and running

Colchester town is a nice small town with almost everything available . Brand shops , grocery stores , night clubs and cinemas can be found easily . The food outlets ive trued include mira, kfc , mcdonalds, greggs, turkish takeaway etc were all quite impressive. One of the main issue was that the shopping centers close early around 6pm which gets annoying sometimes . Overall its a nice town if youre a student living here just for the university. Everyday essentials can be found easily and nightlife is quite fun

Its an okey town if you live on campus and you dont travel to campus everyday. The transportation really sucks, busses not turning up or turning up really late. There is pretty much everything in town though. Whatever you need, you can find it.

Colchester town has so many things to do for students, from shopping to bars and clubs, to the cutest cafes to relax and get your assignments done. Like home-from-home!

Has lots of fun activities to do including two cinemas, the museums, a castle, biggest indoor roller skating rink, ten pin bowling, a leasure centre and a fantastic zoo. Close to beach towns, as well as good transport links to London and Chelmsford.

Colchester is a good, but not great, place to shop. There is a wide range of the general shops you'd expect. In terms of things to do, Colchester castle is a must. The grounds are fantastic. You don't necessarily have to go in, so it can be a nice free activity. In terms of nights out, Atik is the only proper club. It is full of young people, mainly those who attend The University of Essex. It is a nice club but a little pricy due to it being the only one in the area. It is opposite a McDonald's which is never a bad thing either. Transport is good in Colchester. Buses are pretty good and the trains are direct to London in about an hour.

Cheap train fares. Wide range of shops, but difficult to find your way around. A lot of restaurants available and coffee shops. Also, colchester castle is a beautiful place to visit, as well as the museum and the gardens surrounding it

Good town, a lot of restaurants and good nightlife. Sometimes can get a bit monotonous and if you don't enjoy doing the same thing over and over again, then this will not be the place for you. However, all in all, a lot of hustle and bustle of a Friday and Saturday night, but pretty standard on the whole.

Lots of things to do and is filled with places to eat/parks,etc. but wish there were more places where you can sit down and relax , like a gazebo or something

Colchester town is so boring, it's one of Britain's oldest towns and they plan to keep it that way. The only thing that is really good for young people is Atik nightclub. But that's literally the only one in town. There's no Uber, and 14 delivery places, coming from London it's a massive transition because the areas in London that seem a bit run down, it's a gold mine compared to Colchester. It's more of a place to retire rather than for young people or students.

Being the oldest recorded town theres a fair amount of cultural and historical activities to do and see in colchester. There has recently been a lot of new restaurants opening in the town and it is very good for meals out, as well as nights out. Bars and clubs like walkabout, after office hours and atik. There is also a wide variety of shops and department stores. The are alot of bus routes that leave from the city centre and there is also a train station in the centre, so colchester is very accessible.

I've grown up in Colchester my whole life and things used to be a lot better but they're still pretty good has a cracking night life on a Friday and Saturday with all the squaddys coming out on a Friday and has lots of kebab shops for after a night out but also has lots to do for families too. Sometimes at night can be a bit intimidating on your own but no more than anywhere else.

The food is good there is a wide range of different places to eat in the town , also new restaurants opening , not everything is English a bit off food from all around the world

There's not a lot to do but they have Taco Bell so that's the only reason they get three stars. The town it's self is small and quaint. It seemed very dry with no real night life. You'd have to travel out of town in order to enjoy.

Nights out: not the best to choose from if you like clubs, but there are a lot of very good pubs so overall not bad but not great. Food and Shopping: wide variety of restaurants, from well known places I.e Nandos, Wagamama etc, to independent high quality restaurants. With shopping you have all your high street brands as well as a luxury shopping outlet on the high street. There could be more things to do but there are always events going on in town and at the university.

Good, nice food and places and things to do. Student central so nights out are sick and always lively

Little to do besides shopping in the city centre, often not much happening beyond with regards to nightlife.

Colchester is a small town that has most things but I am from a very big city so getting used to Colchester is taking time. I love that it's close to London, and there is an airport nearby as well. The restaurant options are not too bad, as there is one for most categories and price ranges. Colchester has most shops, but these shops are quite tiny compared to others. I honestly dislike the locals. Nightlife is basically non existent. Overall, weird place.

Colchester is a great place for young people, there are many restaurants, bars, gyms, good colleges and shops too. It is a safe place and you are able to get to many areas from here using the public transport. One thing I would like to see in Colchester is a pret a manger and more social activities run for younger people or possible competitions.

Shopping in Colchester is pretty decent - they have a lot of high street shops like H&M, TkMaxx, TopShop, etc. They got a big Primark about 2 years ago, but they don't have a Zara. There aren't many independent clothing shops here yet. Eating out is also quite decent, there are a lot of good chain restaurants like Bills, Pizza Express, Five Guys, Zizzis, Wagamama, etc. There are also a lot of good independent(ish) restaurants like The Pavilion, Three Wise Monkeys, El Guaca, and lots of cute little tea rooms and cafes. Of course there are also fast food chains too. Drinking is quite good depending on what you like - if you like local pubs then it's great. There are a lot of great pubs like Queen Street Brewhouse, the Fat Cat, the Ale House, the New Inn... a few miles away is Wivenhoe, with some really nice little pubs like the Black Buoy, the Station, the Greyhound... if you prefer more bar-type places, there's Hudson, Qube, The Pavilion, Three Wise Monkeys, Twisters, V bar, Fashions... The only real club in Colchester is Atik, which has three floors and is quite popular. The castle is Colchester's main tourist attraction - a Roman temple built into a castle by the Normans. It's been opened into a museum, and there are underground guided tours of the foundations. It's surrounded by castle park, a very pretty park for families to enjoy in the daytime, and occasionally holds events like Fireworks Day and Christmas Markets. Outside of town is Colchester Zoo, a large zoo with a really large selection of animals to see. There's a bowling alley and laser quest arena just outside of town by Hythe Station, and a Go Ape a short drive away. Colchester is also close to beach towns like Clacton and Brightlingsea, which make nice day trips. The vibe of the town is quite grim. It is an ugly-looking town despite its Roman history, and one that you need to be careful in. Crime rates are quite high here. Buses (First and Arriva) are reasonably regular, but are often late in peak hours. Train links to London are good, as well as National Express coaches.

Colchester is the perfect city, if you are looking for a more quiet, but still entertaining city. The fact that it is close to the coast, as well as, London (only an hour away) makes it even more perfect if you are not a fun of big, flashy cities, but want to be close to them for a weekend getaway. But don't worry, there are still tons of stuff to do in the city and surrounding areas! If you are looking for something, I can bet you can find it in the Town Centre. From restaurants, clubs and pubs, to a more relaxing small cafes and bookshops hidden in the heart of the oldest recorded city in England. The money value is also pretty good, it is enought far away from London to be a lot cheaper than in there, but it is not the cheapest you can imagine. There is also a lot to see, learn and visit in this amazing city. I have been living here for 3 years, and I still constantly find myself discovering new and interesting places and stories sprinkled around the city. The only bad thing I can think about is the fact that the public transport is pretty inconsistent. The buses are not always reliable and if you are not used to them, that might come as a shock that the buses sometimes don't come at all or come in between scheduled times.

Great nights out, loads of great pubs and bars, tons of restaurants, and good shopping! There's always lots going on in the town, at castle park and in the arts centre.

Very Good range of resteraunts, however night life is poor and high street shops do not cater to the student city that it is

Anonymous
