University of York

York is an absolutely gorgeous city with an equally gorgeous uni campus. All my lectures are contained on the campus so it never takes me more than 5 minutes to get from lecture to lecture. My tutors have been fantastic from the get go and my supervisor is always available for a chat, if it's in person or by email. The student nights are an obvious perk too, offering cheaper entry and drinks!

Love it. Amazing facilities, helpful staff members. A lot of hands on practice taking consideration I'm bioscience student. Was able to learn a lot and become more confident. Also was given huge push towards giving presentation. Overall very worth attending uni of York!

The university as a whole is very good. The campus is beautiful with the wildlife, greenery and lake and it is like a little community as all of the accommodation is walking distance away from the campus. They have a wide range of facilities including 2 gyms and 2 libraries, and I especially enjoy the student union opportunities to get involved in sports and societies. Everything is reasonably priced and the sport societies I attend (dance and aerobics) are extremely well organised and student-led. The careers services are very helpful and we receive frequent emails updating us on available opportunities and I have used their website many times to look into volunteering opportunities in the area. They are very well organised and helpful. Staff are very helpful and there is someone you can go to with any problem which they make you aware of from day 1 which I think is very important to make students feel safe and supported.

This university gave me the best three years of my life. If chosen well your college provides tonnes of opportunities and the campus is beautiful. The city is very easy to get to and is super welcoming. I loved everything about it.

The accomodation at University of York is pretty average, the rooms and bathrooms are a decent size however the kitchen is far too small for the 16 people sharing it and there are quite a few silverfish and ants around. The facilities are fab, both departmental (great research facilities and a huge library that opens 24/7) and leisure (lots of places to eat that are cheap with lots of vegan/veggie options!) The psychology course is very in depth and always interesting, the lecturers are enthusiastic and the work is never boring! There are loads of jobs available for students in York, whether seasonal or permanent part time, and the courses send constant updates on the many careers opportunities to help gain some experience in whatever field you choose! The open day wasn't very well organised and a bit all over the place with no one sure of where I was meant to be, but don't let that put you off as since arrival the university itself has been very well organised and always has events happening so there's plenty to do!

There are two campuses; one which is modern, attractive if not slightly desolate and boring. The main campus has some hideous building but some of the new buildings are very nice and the woodland and lakeside feel are a very nice touch. It's also peaceful as it's on the suburbs of york. The main thing with York for me was that it's very vanilla. There's nothing that exciting/radical going on and most students are boring and make the decision to frequent York's average clubs rather than explore other nights out e.g. Leeds or Newcastle. The average student is obsessed with takeaways and netflix but then complains about having no money. Wastemen aren't my cup of tea and if you agree, I'd avoid York and go to Leeds.

York uni is a campus based uni and the fact that everything is close to each other is definitely an advantage. The accommodation, academic departments and on campus bars and restaurants are all within walking distance. I love the many events that are always happening on campus too, and if needs be the city of York is 15 mins away by bus. Personally I am really enjoying my course at this uni, it's fascinating to learn more about a subject I'm genuinely interested in as well as meeting the best people doing it. Overall it's an experience I would definitely recommend

A wonderful university in the heart of a lovely city. Course leaders are so helpful and STYC support as a fresher is so important and helpful

We have some great opportunities here, with the student union constantly organising some of the best events from small sport tournaments to bungee jumping for charity. Although the campus doesn't look very picturesque it does have a charm to it and the learning facilities are wonderful. My favourite thing however is probably the gym facilities and the roses event; wonderful for people who love sport and competing. Even if the university looks fairly industrial, the city of York ddfiantly makes up for it. York is without doubt the most beautiful city in England.

York's campus buildings are not particularly attractive unless 1960s style brutalism is your thing. The lake makes up for it though -- there are definitely some Instagram-worthy views of campus. I studied English literature. The contact hours are unsurprisingly minimal. This means that there's a lot of reading and independent study involved. When I first got to Uni, it was slightly jarring to only have a couple of things to turn up to per week, but the free time you do have should be spent in the library if you're pushing for the top grades. The sports facilities are excellent, especially the Sports village on the Heslington East campus, but the cost of membership is pretty high.

Overall had a positive experience. Good selection of bars on campus. Ugly buildings but that doesn’t really affect uni experience. Politics course was varied and well taught; had some bad seminar tutors here and there and some lazy feedback but overall good. Friendly staff and nice students. Overall a nice uni experience.

I adored my time at York. The campus is all together but also close to the city centre. The growing facilities on both Hes east and hes west mean there is a lot of variety in food and drink outlets and always a good deal to be had at YUSU venues. The on site club nights are always cheap and absolutely brilliant. Only complaint is the student doctors practice. In my experience they weren't very good- particularly with mental health issues.

Campus is ideally located for access tot he town and provides a lovely sense of community. Facilities are generally good but the library is not big enough to cater for all students during exam season. Most staff members go above and beyond for their students. Mental health provisions are limited and thus has resulted in mediocre healthcare for a larger number of student s struggling with mental health. Career services are good, very hard to be seen but teach you how to get employed very well. Experience overall is a 4/5.

University of York is incredibly bureaucratic in terms of dealing with chronic illnesses. Expect difficulties.

The university offers a wide range of courses including Medicine and Nursing. It is a relatively small university population but has a variety of students from many places including international students, and is very inclusive. I study Medicine, the course is very well tailored to students who want more direct support from tutors, however the delivery of lectures at university is sometimes poor due to them, a lot of the time, being streamed inefficiently from Hull (as we are partnered with the University of Hull).

The campus buildings are quite old fashioned and ugly, and central hall is a bit of an eyesore but overall I think the campus is beautiful, I like the fact that the lake is the central feature and Greg’s Place is lovely to sit in when it’s sunny. I study mathematics and I enjoy this course mainly, however I’m not sure the university dealt with the strikes in the best way. I don’t enjoy the way they deal with final year projects as well because I feel like they throw us in the deep end with no experience and expect us to know what to do. I enjoy being a part of this university and the student union do organise some enjoyable events, such as the summer ball and Roses events.

I study English Literature and the pastoral care within the department is incredible. The lecturers all genuinely care about the course content and it comes across in lectures and seminars and helps engage the students. The freedom within the course is also very rare and helped make the dissertation seem less daunting.

York is a great uni in terms of offering the full spectrum of campus facilities, teaching and support, but some things need improving, mainly the open door team mental health facilities. These rarely help a lot of students and the waiting lists are insanely long.

Studied psychology in education - good course if you want to go into educational psychology. Lecturers are helpful, good library facilities, halls are good

Great uni with excellent facilities. Location of campus is fantastic and the way the campus is set out gives the university a family feel.

Amazing lake campus, not just car parks and buildings like other universities. Very good bars on campus which just good events like quizzes and club nights. College student halls system is very inclusive and good.

The university offers first class teaching which is delivered flexibly with additional academic and vocational support available.

The University of York is a very welcoming community. Being a Russel Group University, it offers fantastic teaching with a lovely community feel which makes it easy to make friends and make the most of your degree
