University of Oxford

Teaching is in general quite poor. A lot of self learning is required especially when it comes to the final years. Sport facilities are in extremely poor condition as well. The sports hall in Iffley stinks.

My college is small, but comfortable and family-like as a result. Friendly faces are always nearby, our cafe is super cute and our libraries in college are great. I study English Language and Literature, and whilst the reading list is never ending and my tutors can be quite harsh, I’m loving the challenge of my degree. I’ve been impressed with the careers services offered to me particularly,as the Bright Network gives loads of great links to opportunities, as does the Oxford Hub for volunteers.

Oxford University is a fantastic place to study but does definitely have its downfalls. The academic pressure is intense and the tutorial system is a great way to learn more about subjects you are interested in. Sometimes there is a failure I feel to acknowledge just how much work students get and if you really do not enjoy what you’re signing up to study, then this place probably isn’t the best for you. Having said that, the University is beautiful with so many facilities that aren’t appreciated enough.

Oxford University is an amazing centre of learning with a huge array of facilities for your studies, leisure time and anything else you might want. The collegiate system is great and gives you a real sense of community, and the staff are all driven and passionate, as are the students.

As an historic institution Oxford has down its best, and often fails, to drag itself into the modern day. It’s student body does, on the whole, manage to make sure people battle through the trials and tribulations of university successfully

I study at University College at Oxford. Our accommodation in first year is great - in the centre of town and of a high standard. However, in second year you are moved out to the Annexe which is a 30 minute walk away from the centre of town. The college system means that there is easy access to mental health services both in and out of college, and means that students are less likely to slip under the radar than in other universities.

At my college there are amazing facilities, free printing in my department, course books are available for free at pretty much any library, and the careers advisors are excellent. Also lots of opportunities for extracurriculars.

The course was engaging and intellectually stimulating. Good learning facilities too. The campus was beautiful with stunning architecture. Careers services were very good as a student and continue to be very good for Oxford's alumni.

The city is beautiful and most colleges are so central which is absolutely wonderful, the city is basically the university and you're surrounded by libraries, colleges and faculties which are absolutely stunning. As far as the course goes, you're going to be doing far more work than your friends at other universities and it really is stressful so you need to know what you're getting yourself in for. But it really is bearable if you love your subject. I personally am at Mansfield college and LOVE my accommodation and the people I've met there, as a state school student worried about oxford I was so pleasantly surprised by how amazing everyone is. Also the college system gives you even more opportunity for sport, like rowing which is a great thing to get involved with within your college. The student union is good, plus you have a JCR at your college which is also great. Career service is absolutely wonderful, so many opportunities to explore and the societies available e.g. law society and women in business give you even more great opportunities. It is hard but it is so worth it.

The campus is currently under construction at the college I go to so it's quite disruptive but a great uni

Great faculties, great lecturers, loads of learning resources. Had little exposure to the student union, but it appears to be doing a good job. Careers services are really good, they have really helped me with my applications.

The work load is intense, people are good if you find the right group but many are stuck up. Halls are nice and tutors tend to be good.

The university is ancient and set in its ways but you know that when you sign up. There are a lot of archaic ways (some of which are positive quirks) and there is a huge student body of uninformed idealists who create quite a negative atmosphere around many events. Despite these set backs the university is a hive of academic interest and a great opportunity to make contacts and have unique experiences.

The facilities and academic resources are exceptional, as is the quality of tutorials where you are really forced to evaluate and defend your arguments. There is much less contact time than other universities which can be detrimental socially and if you lack self-motivation. There is also a huge difference in experiences between colleges.

A great university with excellent teaching. Also has a good network system for different career choices too as the lecturers and professors are all experts in their field and welcome students for placements and projects.

Very good city/university balance - colleges dotted around the city. The mathematics facilities are incredible, with great lecture halls and a lovely cafe.

University is dotted around the city which means that you're not separated from the city. As a mathematics student I found the facilities to be increíble, the lecture theatres and cafe couldn't be better.

The University is beautiful and the setting couldn't be better. Easy transport links, amazing libraries and a ridiculous amount of coffee shops to work in. However, you do have to get on with it. The support system seems to need work as you are thrown in at the deep end. As a post-grad it hasn't met my expectations. On the other hand, there are many things to get involved in, societies and balls, dinners and seminars and so on. These are great chances to meet other people struggling like you and to have a whine about it all!

Great university town with really old buildings and great facilities. Libraries and departments are amazing and have all you need. My course is hard but rewarding and I’m really enjoying it. The student union is small, college JCR’s act as the student union and colleges have a community feel. Careers service have been very useful and available when needed.

Great University town with a lot going on. Community feeling within colleges and easily get to know incredibly interesting people. Amazing facilities that are beautiful, ranging from the really old to brand new. My course is hard but rewarding and I’m really enjoying it. Small student union, instead colleges have JCR’s that act as student unions within colleges and these laise with each other.

The university has amazing libarary resources, especially the radcam which stores just about any book you could think of, and because you can't take books out of the building, it means whatever text you need will be there. Oxford is such a beautiful city with lots to do and everything in walking distance. The nightlife is limited but it had enough, plus lots of great cocktail bars and pubs. There are so many societies, although sports at Oxford is often quite competitive and played at a high level. The academic workload is pretty high, therefore it can be hard to make time for extracurricular but it is definitely worth getting involved.

It can be a really exciting place full of very intelligent people, but these people are at times insane and very stressy.

What you get here isn't necessarily what you expect. There's not a whole lot of teaching and it's all about being self taught and being expected to be on top of it, which can be really stressful with the short but packed terms. But you have the honour of meeting some of the most intelligent people in your field, and you can always find someone who shares an interest with you, no matter how niche.

The collegiate system at Oxford is a wonderful thing to be a part of and one of the largest advantages is that every college has its own student union. The town itself is beautiful and very easy to get around (buses, bikes and walking). There are also heaps of means of transport to get out of Oxford (the Oxford Tube, X90, Megabus, trains etc). It is a lot of hard work but incredibly rewarding too!
