Make sure you get out on freshers week, this is when you will meet the most people! Join a team/society - very good for social lives

The freshers week was amazing, with lots of events going on throughout both day and evening in which was inclusive to all members of first year. The events were well organised and the nightlife came fairly priced for such an outstanding experience.

It was quite hard at the beginning did not know anything not even the language and the events were not very well advertised but the people were amazing and I got as much help as I could get.

I made all my lasting friends in freshers, so much to do, so much freebies and savings!!! I don't think i was sober for very long at all. It was amazing, the uni even sent smbassadors on planned nights to make sure things ran smoothly and we could celebrate freshers safely. It was great.

Freshers was very exciting! I had to move country so it was difficult bringing all my stuff and leaving friends. I met new people the first day. I lived in tower so there were loads of people on my floor to meet. We got takeaway and went out the first night to 256 which was alright but there’s better places. Got a wristband for the events which was a must. We went to a foam party, a frat party night, I think Pangea. It was quite good and necessary to get to know people. Tips: get a door stopper to keep open your door, get people’s sc early on, get a wristband, and you don’t need to bring everything and the kitchen sink, halls are small.

University of Manchester fresher's week without a doubt is the highlight of my entire university experience atleast in terms of Nightlife. Freshers' week is an incredibly busy time, filled with a mix of social events, fairs and important administrative tasks to complete. The opportunity to get to know your university and make new friends without the pressure of lectures and deadlines is too good to miss. In short - It's cannot be missed.

Fresher's week is the best time to be in the city. The amount of offers and events set up are really interesting. University does a lot for the students and it's a good time to get out and socialize. Environment makes it comfortable to settle and get adjusted to a new place.

So so fun. SU events are the best ones - always full of people and tickets always sold out! Recommend to go for these events than the outsider companies events. People are full of energy and very sociable!

When I first moved to Manchester I nearly got hit by a tram three times in the first week. For large, metal objects they move remarkably quietly and if you're from a tramless town or city, you need to get used to them. They run all across the city centre and out to the north, south east and west of Manchester. At times, the Metrolink network can appear to be some sort of avant garde art installation as it is prone to the odd breakdown, and the ticket machines can be...temperamental. They're a good way of getting around relatively cheaply though.ou'll like it there. Loads of bars, independent shops, interesting places to visit and plenty of characters. You can basically wear what you like and nobody will really bat an eyelid. There's a big shopping arcade called Afflecks which has loads of great shops and boutiques selling the weird and wonderful , a cereal cafe and plenty of places you can get your new best mate's name tattooed on your bum cheeks.Massive building containing loads of bars, a cinema, and crucially, a branch of Nando's. Our handy guide to the entertainment mecca will help you out, but most bars in there run cheap drinks offers on any given night. A night out with a lid on. Thank you for the read.

To paraphrase Gloria Gaynor, at first, I was afraid I was petrified. But the fear would soon transform into drunken joy. The Freshers Crew were indispensable in helping me move in, locate my bearings and identify the choicest of watering holes for my thirsty fresher mouth. A few (by which I mean about 15) drinks later, I was staggering around Manchester city centre, where I saw her. The most beautiful siren this side of the M25. I decided she would be mine. So I staggered over and introduced myself. But disaster! She was a molecular genetics 2nd year PhD student and was returning from a long night in the lab. She had no time for my childish antics. Heart broken, I returned home where my flatmates comforted me with drinking games and chart music. In my paralytic state, I vowed to myself, before my time at university is over, I will woo the fair maiden I had cast my eyes on hours earlier. So I promptly ordered 3 1st edition texts on molecular genetics and signed up for a conference which I believe she shall be attending. If my knowledge of epigenetics cannot win her heart, then nothing will.

Get yourself kitted out before arriving for freshers week but don’t go too far. Remember you’ll still be part of society, although it won’t feel like it at times, so it’ll be easy enough to sort a few bits and pieces once you’re there. Here's our Ten Essentials to Take to University. Get a student bank account sorted… you’re gonna need it. Use comparison websites to work out the best deal for you. Be cautious of freebies and make sure you go for the best option financially. Check the welcome emails your university will have sent you and follow their various social media channels for the latest info, advice and guidance before and throughout your first year. Check your timetable online and find out what other info is available to you.
