The University of Leeds

The week of freshers had some good events on, however it is definitely not worth buying the freshers ticket as it is expensive and people don’t go to everyone. The freshers fair is good, lots of information is given and it’s a great chance to sign up for clubs with activities that you love and have done all your life or brand new ones. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. For new students I would say that don’t worry if you feel like you’re the only one who is struggling in the first term of uni, you’re not the only one as there are many people who are you just wouldn’t know. Go out and make other friends who are more similar to yourself. People say that the friends you make in the first two weeks may not be your friends in the long run. Just go, be yourself and get stuck in!!

Freshers week was extremely overwhelming but very fun. I met my flat mates on the first day of moving but in and we quickly got ready, had pres and went on it first night out together - the music was really good. During freshers week we had to go into university during the day for our inductions and this was tiring as it meant I was constantly meeting people but at the same time, it got me out of the flat and introduced me to people on my course which is really important. By mid week I was exhausted from going out and this is where it’s important to have a break from the drinking and socialising. Have a night in! What I really enjoyed about freshers week was that there were loads of good events and socials and you were always busy meaning that there were loads of opportunities to try new things and meet new people.

Freshers week was alright! The main thing was putting myself out there as everyone if the same and wants to make friends ASAP! Try new things but stay yourself otherwise you'll make friends with people who aren't on the same level. If you can, before freshers pick events with your flat mates and buy the discounted tickets so that you aren't buying loads. But if you don't do this don't bother buying tickets on your own to events before uni as you'll most likely have different event tickets to what your flat mates have and you'll have just wasted money. The tickets to freshers event also never sell out so don't worry!!

I enjoyed freshers week, although I did not meet friends in the usual way. I feel like the majority of "freshers" events were often a let down and although beneficial in allocated place to meet people were often overpriced. Furthermore I found that said events seemed almost mollycoddling, impeding from presenting the possible oppurtunities that the city had to to offer in itself.

Moving in was easy, they had students there to help you carry your luggage into your halls. The events were good as they had different themes for each one. Make sure to buy freshers tickets early to save money but it could mean that your flat mates may go somewhere else if they haven't booked the same ones or haven't booked any at all.

It was very good. My flat mates were friendly which made the experience better. Would be good to have fresher reps. The events were good but very hard to decide which ones to go to possible more info on the events to help decide. I had lots of fun. Useful tips would be to talk to your flat mates straight away and just make lots of effort to make new friends as you will enjoy it a lot more. Also to join a society as the night on are really fun.

It was far too busy, way too expensive and completely not worth it. But i had fun with my flat mates at home so it was worth the experience of a free week to do whatevewhatever we wanted.

The overall experience in terms of what you do was as expected- you go out every night. However you have not had time to find your people yet usually, or you haven't made good enough friends with your flat, and so it can feel quite lonely. I had fun on the nights out but when I was on my own in the day I felt quite homesick.

I found that attending freshers fair at university helped settle us in. They provided information on upcoming events that week, free food, competitions and many more activities. My advice is to plan each night and get tickets in advance so that you do not miss out on any of the events. When moving into new accommodation as a fresher I would definitely say to bring family for help as t is a lot of work.

Current students were great help moving me in, freshers events made it very easy to meet new people. I bought one of the freshers wristbands so I had a ticket into all the events! All my flat had done the same which was great!

So the first day and moving in is the scariest day of your life so far: moving away from home for the first time and living with complete randomers but as soon as the initial hello’s are done, you’ve made your bed up and you’ve said goodbye to your parents, you can calm down and start to prepare for the big pres you’re gonna have tonight. There are so many events put on at practically every club and you may be tempted to buy event tickets beforehand, but find out if your flat mates are going to do this: most people find flatmates on a Facebook group. But you don’t want to be the only one with tickets and then end upcoming wasting it because no one else is going. Freshers is the time to get to know your flat so don’t take this for granted. But also remember, the chances of becoming best mates with everyone in the flat is not likely so don’t panic if you don’t all click at first. Make sure you to the union during the days to see what they freshers fair is offering because that’s normally great, and to get to know the place.

Freshers' Week was an absolutely key opportunity to meet new people, to get to know the University and the city. Actually, I met most of my current friends during freshers' Week, and sharing nice experiences at different events has definitely united us.

Freshers week was a mix of dissapointing sand really good. The SU organised stuff is really great and recommend doing it, but save yourself some money and avoid club nights in city centre like zoo and Disney party. They’re really overpriced for what they are.

Freshers week was a very busy time with so much happening that I missed out on opportunities I wanted to take advantage of as I wasn’t aware they were happening or they overlapped with something else or I felt anxious going alone

Very smooth experience, people around to help whenever I had any questions, both on campus and in halls. Definitely get involved as much as possible and just fill your schedule.

In my fresher's experience I went out every night and didn't really experience new things throughout the day. I still enjoyed making new friends though on the a night.

was alright, canny complain uno was p sick, all the freshers events were w*nk as fuck though. th freshers zoo was the worst experience of my life

Moving to university is a daunting experience, having not been allocated my requested accommodation I was given what I thought was the worst possible option. But thankfully it was the best thing that could have happened to me I got to meet the most amazing people which meant that my freshers experience was amazing

Because Leeds is such a big city and there are so many different students spread out all over the place I definitely didn't get much out of Freshers. I'd advise all students to hold out and wait until Freshers which is when a lot of your friends will actually form. For the few first weeks just try and socialise with as many different people possible and don't stick to what you would normally do. Really push yourself outside you're comfort zone.

Always loads going on in Leeds, lots of great bars and clubs of a wide variety with a multitude of events, one event I particular loook forward to for next semester is a new event call the rabbit hole

My moving in experience was all quite well organised by the halls and it was easy to meet people in the flat. I thought the organisation of nights out and events could have been better as it wasn’t clear what you needed to buy tickets for. Lots of events were oversold so the clubs were just really busy. Lots of people were unsure whether to buy the wristbands promoted by clubs to get access to freshers week events but this is unnecessary and cons freshers into thinking they have to buy it before they even get to university.
