Why Study Here

Sheffield combines a bustling student city with access to the vast open countryside of the Peak District. It's green, lively, independent, safe, inexpensive and creative. Sheffield Hallam offers plenty of outstanding courses, and you'll be studying in Grade II listed buildings as well as brand new facilities. Although it's the UK's fifth largest city, Sheffield feels like a big village. Many students fall in love with it and choose to start their careers here after they graduate. The university is proud to be LGBT friendly and home to students from 125 countries around the world. It is placed in the top 35 universities in the country for student satisfaction and nearly 60 of the University's courses achieved an overall satisfaction of more than 90%, with 15 courses securing 100%.

The nightlife in Sheffield is really varied, with many bars and clubs in the popular West Street district playing all kinds of music. Indie, rock, motown, 60s beats, drum and base - just to name a few. And because students are such an important part of the local economy, almost all of the city's bars, cinemas and restaurants offer a student discount, making your money go further.

Halls of residence

Inside your halls you'll make lifelong friends and memories. From spontaneous parties to movie nights, it's where some of your best university moments will happen. Sheffield Hallam have over 20 safe and secure halls of residence to suit all budgets and tastes, catering for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. All the halls are in popular student areas near our campuses. You're never more than a 20-minute walk from your lectures - and in most halls it's less than 10. The university offers private sector housing for postgraduates, whether this is a flat in the city centre or a shared house.

City Campus is right in the centre of Sheffield, just a few minutes' walk from the train station, and is surrounded by shops, cafes and pubs. Just a 25-minute walk away is Collegiate Campus which mixes some of Sheffield's best bars, markets and restaurants with stunning parks for studying in the sunshine.

The university experience and education support was brilliant. All my lecturers were incredibly experienced and supportive. I have found the university struggle to support alumni and a university I am keen to work for have made it seem near enough impossible to work for.

Great campus at collegiate, all buildings in a close range so great for getting from one building to another. Timetable could be better. Often in for one hour a day and then have a five hour gap the next day. Majority of teaching staff and lovely and supportive. Would recommend this university to potential students
