Sheffield combines a bustling student city with access to the vast open countryside of the Peak District. It's green, lively, independent, safe, inexpensive and creative. Sheffield Hallam offers plenty of outstanding courses, and you'll be studying in Grade II listed buildings as well as brand new facilities. Although it's the UK's fifth largest city, Sheffield feels like a big village. Many students fall in love with it and choose to start their careers here after they graduate. It is placed in the top 30 universities in the country for student satisfaction and nearly 50 of the University's courses achieved an overall satisfaction of more than 90%, with 10 courses securing 100%.
Nightlife
The nightlife in Sheffield is really varied, with many bars and clubs in the popular West Street district playing all kinds of music. Indie, rock, motown, 60s beats, drum and bass - just to name a few. And because students are such an important part of the local economy, almost all of the city's bars, cinemas and restaurants offer a student discount, making your money go further.
Halls of residence
Inside your halls you'll make lifelong friends and memories. From spontaneous parties to movie nights, it's where some of your best university moments will happen. Sheffield Hallam have over 20 safe and secure halls of residence to suit all budgets and tastes, catering for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. All the halls are in popular student areas near our campuses. You're never more than a 30-minute walk from your lectures - and in most halls it's less than 10. The university offers private sector housing for postgraduates, whether this is a flat in the city centre or a shared house.

Location
City Campus is right in the centre of Sheffield, just a few minutes' walk from the train station, and is surrounded by shops, cafes and pubs. Just a 20-minute walk away is Collegiate Campus which mixes some of Sheffield's best bars, markets and restaurants with stunning parks for studying in the sunshine.

Clubs and societies
There are over 100 student-run societies covering everything from rock music to Harry Potter, campaigning, scuba diving and cheerleading. Whatever your interests, there will be something for you - and if not we'll help you start your own.
Welcome week
Your first two weeks are where it all begins. Fourteen days and nights to get to know your university, your students' union and student life in Sheffield. There's loads of events, from a trip to Ikea to buy essential items for your room, to testing your knowledge in the Hideout big pub quiz and not forgetting Open Mic night to show off your hidden talents.
