York is an incredible town filled with history, and a real community spirit. Due to its location within a ring road, York has all the aspects of a small quiet town, however the reality is that it portrays a much more lively environment, with a strong student influence aiding its popularity. There are countless shops in the city centre and also a number of shopping centres a bit further out so you’ll never run out of shops. Similarly, the list of pubs is never ending. With over 365 pubs/bars there is somewhere new to drink for every day of the year. The nightlife is also very impressive with a number of different nightclubs that suit student life perfectly.

York Is a lovely place, the night life is amazing so many different places to go and not far away from each other. Good ranges of different place to eat from Italian, Indian, Chinese, sushi to carvery. Its might not be a big big place for shopping but it's big enough and they have a 10 minute bus journey to the designer outlet, and indoor shopping centre too. You have beautiful city wall you can walk round the river. Lovely gardens to go to. Overall York is a lovely place to be.

York can offer something for everyone. Whether you’re into historical landmarks or the natural world, you’re within a stoned throw of it all.

Some great options but niche chains like taco bell aren't here and I love that place. Lots of independent restaurants though and I love that too

Such a gorgeous city. Also a really good night out, dependning on the day of the week would recommend different places. Wednesday night, yates’ pound a pint and then kuda afterparty is really good. Friday is student night at salvation or can go kuda. On a Saturday would definitely recommend salvation. Should always pop into jalou for a couple of songs however!! Revs is lovely and there are a lot of places for a cheap drink such as lowther or kings arms which has loads of benches right next to the river! Love it.

Beautiful city to live in, always something going on. The night life isn't the best but it makes up for it with all the bars and pubs scattered around the city. Lots of good shops however can be expensive for food and drink.

I love York, it’s a beautiful, historical city that brings tourism all year round. I love the friendly and cosy feel of the city centre rather than a big industrial city like many other larger city centres. It really is like a home away from home. The buildings are beautiful, restaurants are plentyiful and there are lots of quirky bars to visit. One down side however is the lack of clubs for younger students. In terms of value for money, it can get a little pricey in terms of drink prices at bars etc, but this is the case for many city’s I believe. Overall, the city is great and I love living and being a part of it!

York is a small city which promotes a communal feeling in which students become well acquainted. Being small, it's easy to get around, which makes meeting up with friends or going to work very cost free as there's no need to pay for public transport or drive. Being small does come with it's limitations though, as going out tends to follow a similar pattern of venues. However, I feel that even in a bigger city, one might have their preferred cafes/bars/clubs that they tend to visit.

Nice city with a great Christmas market for all ages. Decent clothing stores with a nice outlet not too far away.

York is a great city if you're a student who loves both clubbing and live music/intimate music nights! So many interest to and small bars and pubs to choose from and never short on somewhere to eat! It is also great for finding small independent cafes as well as local craft shops! If you enjoying having the balance between city life and rural life, york is the place to be! The city itself feels like a large town and there are plenty walks which take you out of the hustle and bustle, especially on a busy Saturday! It is a very homely city and evething is in walking distance too. Most restaurants/pubs tend to have weekly deals on too so you're never spoilt for choice! I am a student in York and I personally love it, my favourite evenings are trying out new bars and pubs, particularly trying out pub quizzes in different places! There is so must history to York which you get a sense of by just exploring the shambles and walking the walls! Buses are frequent around the city however it is very rare that you have to use them as everything is so compact that you can walk it all! I would definitely recommend it!

Great city, full of history. There are many things to see and plenty of food and drink options. I definitely recommend Evil Eye for an eclectic range of cocktails and the House of Trembling Madness for a cosy pint. If you're a fan of cats, try the York Lucky Cat trail (pick up a leaflet in the Shambles) - it's a great way to explore the city if you're only there for a day!

Really beautiful and safe city !!! Amazing shops, cafes and restaurants, one thing I would improve is the nightlife because not all clubs are always open so some nights out you struggle to find a good club

York is an incredible city, it's full of history, the people are so welcoming, it soon feels like home. It's good for pubs, pints and there are more places to eat than I can count. The only downside is that it lives up to its slightly boring student city reputation, there aren't many clubs and there isn't a lot of variety in music played. And it's expensive

York is a gorgeous city, very safe and super unique cafes to meet friends at. Plenty places in the city to view and walk around, perfect place for the family to visit too. The night life is good too, Kudas shit with awful staff but other clubs are better. Plenty bars, pubs and clubs to see the night away. On a Wednesday there is pound a pint at Yates which is totally worth it. Shoppings pretty standard, plenty around including monks cross, Clifton moor and designer outlet which can be accessed via bus from the centre of York. As well as this there are plenty gyms and sports facilities around the city and the outskirts.

For a small city there's great night life for student. Big night clubs including kuda, salvation and fibbers. Also small pubs like the stone roses bar, Yates, revolution. There's so many great restaurant all over the city, some of which are quite pricey, but as students there's always offers on at different ones. Other than that there's attractions to visit during the day including york dungeons and york castle museum.

York is a very safe city. There are plenty of things do do. In the summer you can wander/cycle along the river in the sunshine and enjoy the glittery views or take a boat trip. You can also walk on the city walls. In the winter the city is lit up in Christmas lights and you can visit the Christmas markets and stop by Thor's tipi for a drink. In terms of transport York has a large train station and many buses/coaches connecting the city with other cities. For students nights out are great. The main clubs are Kuda, Salvation, Fibbers, Jalou, Mansion and Popworld. Other bars include the stone roses bar, Society, Yates. York has many high street shops as well as vintage /hipster places so you'll be able to find everything you need. It does not however have a wilko which has been really annoying for me as a student. Instead I've had to buy house items from B&M which is considerably pricer than wilko . One of the greatest things about York are the many pubs and restaurants the city has to offer. You can find everything from expensive cuisine to cheap local eateries . York is a brilliant and friendly city to study and not as expensive as other places in the UK.

York is a beautiful anf historic city, the people are friendly and there a loads of great restaurants, 365 pubs, sights to see, museums, and an array of shops. The nightlife is good for someone that prefers bars to clubs, as there are only a small handfull of nightclubs but they're all pretty different to eachother.

York is a beautiful historical city where you notice something beautiful each time you walk round the town. It's a perfect student city as it is a big enough city that it has everything you could need, but small enough that it won't overwhelm you. There is plenty of retailers, food places, and is only a short train journey from bigger places such as Leeds and Manchester.

York is a very beautiful city. Coming from London it was much smaller, prettier and less congested than I was used to and I grew to love it. While my time at the university wasn't the best, the city's friendly people, cobbled streets and attractions mean I still consider York a second home. The night life is not the best, I won't lie. There are cheesy student nights, RnB nights that are ok but not exciting and pop nights that I wanted to avoid. Vudu Lounge is a shout but if you want a proper night out, be prepared to travel to Leeds.

York is a lovely tourist city, and I feel privaliged to call it home whilst at uni. The only downfall is in terms of shopping and the nightlife. It seems York is full of lovely bars but they come with expensive prices too so not great for the student budget. Nevertheless, the student houses are great and suburban and it's easy to get around.

Amazing city with lots to do. You can go walking in the city or you can go cycling by the river. So much to do...

Nights out are a good laugh - never feel in danger and standard annoying people are fewer than I'm used to. Food is v good, lots and lots of choice. Value for money is decent

Loads to see and do. Nights out are good and loads of places to eat. The markets are good, and the shambles is a nice walk
