Winchester City

The nightlife isn’t great- there is quite a few pubs and low-key places for a drink, but not many nightclubs or places suited to students. There’s one at the university on a Wednesday, BOP, and another in town on weekends, Vodka. There are lots of restaurants and places to eat, but not many shops. There’s a shopping centre and high street in town, but could be better. There’s not a lot to do for young people in Winchester; however there is a lot more in Eastleigh which is about a 15minute drive.

There is some shopping to do but not a wide range of shops so would still need to travel to Southampton for better shopping. Nights out is not great, some good bars like slug and lettuce but vodka the only club is terrible. Again have to travel to Southampton for better clubbing. Winchester is quite an expensive area, food and travel is expensive.

There is multiple fast food places to eat such as McDonalds, KFC, Domino's, and a range of random high Street food places. There's a nice Wetherspoons in the centre of town and a good range of shops surrounding the high Street.

Winchester is a very calm and small city in England. It may be full with elders during daytime, but at night, this city gets as wild as others. There are so many nice restaurants with diversity in nationalities, you name it. Therefore, dining out in this small, lovely town is not a bad idea at all. There are so many womenswear shops in town centre, not much of menswear, but you will eventually find something that you'd like. Winchester is full of arts and history. Don't forget to check out the theatre if you like to see live plays. Winchester can get a little more cozy during Christmas when all the decorations and Christmas tree have been put up!

Winchester has great transport links to surrounding towns and cities with a train and bus station conveniently situated close to the town centre. The nightlife in Winchester is good, with a large variety of bars dotted around the high street area. However, there is only one club in Winchester, making a city such as Southampton perhaps more desirable for night life. Shopping in Winchester lacks, the Brooks centre is dissapointing with is range of shops and the high street is mainly coffee shops now. Most shops tend to be expensive in the Winchester area. Eating out in Winchester is great, there's a vast selection of both fancy and regular restaurants to meet all budgets, as well as a range of cuisines on offer. Value for money can depend. There is not a lot of entertainment in Winchester, there is one cinema and a theatre in the city centre.

Good place to go for a range of different high street and high end shops. Cute cafes located in the area and a wide amount of restaurants. Only downside is the parking is quite expensive

Winchester is a beautiful city, there are loads of museums and the cathedral is wonderful. It is a small city so not great for clothes shopping or anything like that but has the basics and the beauty of the city and the market stalls really make up for that.

Winchester is a really nice town with lots of friendly people. Although the nightlife itself isn't amazing, the people make it enjoyable and you are central to places such as Southampton and Bournemouth. There's always something to do and would really recommend living there.

Winchester is definitely a beautiful city. For someone like me who loves history, Winchester is the perfect place for that. There are a wide range of shops, and so many amazing restaurants and cafes to choose from. It is however extremely expensive to visit, and especially to live, in winchester, therefore it can be hard for students like myself to live here. Again from a students point of view, the night life is not great, however that doesn't bother me personally because I don't like going out much.

The university club is usually a lot of fun, which is good as there's only one other proper club in town! There are several good bars scattered throughout the town however, including Pitcher. As a history student I love the architecture and rich history or Winchester, it's a very nice place to explore.

Winchester is an absolutely lovely city. Plenty to look at and tons of history to take in and a lovely cathedral and city center. To live there though is less than ideal. Average rent is over £750 per month via privately rented and that's on the literal outskirts of the city. When you get to the outskirts public transport can be few and far between into the city center. However it's not that far of a walk depending on where you are. The shopping while good is not great considering the size of the centre. You'd think there'd be more choice of shops. The city centre one way system is a ridiculous idea. It's constantly busy no matter the time of day. However it's still a nice city.

The town in winchester is really cozy, with small shops that give you most of what you need, could have been a few more stores but i think it is a bit of the charm about winchester that it isn't really a «shopping» town. There are lots of beautiful sites to look at, and not to mention the cathedral! Also the town has a wide selection or bars/pubs to go to, it is also good value for money at most places here.

there are lots of restaurants in winchester, most of which are italians and very basic and similar. the others are expensive and over rated. the night life is even worse, there is one official night club which is disgusting and a bar which turns into a small night club 3 nights a week which is much better but there should be more and cheaper nights out. there are next to no shops, there is a new look, primark and a tk max but they are no way big enough. the new look is tiny! there's nothing for entertainment except the most expensive cinema in the country and you have to go to eastleigh or southampton if you actually want to do anything but the train station is central and runs often. the uni is close to town which is helpful but it's not the ideal student city

My dad's in merchant navy, so I have travelled all over the world. I have visited 6 continents; haven't been to Antarctica. And in those continents, I have traveled a lot. Literally a lot. I've lived in US (New York, Chicago), Australia (Melbourne , Sydney), Canada (Quebec), New Zealand (Auckland), Spain, India, Chile, France(Paris). But, when I finally settled in for this city, I couldn't think of a better haven. It's as good as anything. The weather, employment rate, physical and mental well-being, the attitude and mentality of the people, the scenic beauty, the living condition, I mean everything, every single thing is flawlessly perfect. It couldn't have been better. The public transportation is so reliable and convenient that you don't need a personal vehicle. Being a student, I go out for clubbing and all, and have tried different clubs and bars, and really, each one of them is Awesome! It's a very peaceful place. You get to know how beautiful your life is; and still it has an infinite number of entertainment sources. But, the best thing about the place is that it's very economical. You don't have to pinch your pocket for any of the things. I love this city!

Not many experiences for a night out. Vodka is not the best nightclub ever but does the job. There are a variety of nice restaurants and places to drink. It is quite an expensive area. It also has a good variety of shops ranging from primark to high end clothing shops.

Winchester is a lovely place to live in, the streets are exceedingly clean and tidy. From Winchester univeristy it takes about a 10 minute walk to get to town. However there is a frequent bus service that goes from the University to town. There is plenty of places to go to get food and all at a reasonable price, which is handy being a university student. At the heart of the town there is the Winchester Cathedral which holds a very popular Christmas market each year with an ice skating rink. The Christmas market goes on for about a month and a half so there is plenty of time to visit it before you go home for Christmas. Nightlife in Winchester isn't so popular, with the town mostly having pubs and bars there is only one nightclub. The nightclub, Vodka sells drinks at a very reasonable price and does students nights also. There is also plenty of clothing shops in Winchester which is very convienent if you need something last minute, and also there is loads of supermarkets to do your food shopping!

There are good things and bad things about Winchester. It is a reasonably small city which is very pretty. Lots of lovely walk and cafes etc. The nightlife isn't great if you're looking to go clubbing, but there are lots of pubs and bars to visit instead. The highstreet is reasonably small but has a few useful shops like primark. Food shopping can be a bit of a pain as the bigger stores are slightly out of the way, so you end up shopping at the convenience stores (Tesco and Sainsbury's) in town instead.

Great location as everything is within walking distance - no need to drive! Good selection of shops in main town centre to accommodate basic student needs. For nightlife, only one club but loads of pubs and bars. Overall great location for a great uni!

Winchester is a great area. There's loads of stuff to do and isn't far from the beach. The halls are all quite close so you are close to your friends in the other halls

There isn't much to do in Winchester. It has a nice hight street but that's about it. Poor nightlife, many people just go to neighbouring Southampton.

Winchester is a very pleasant and lively city, with a large variety of things for all people ro do. The city centre is beautifully preserved, with countless old buildings and lovely shops inside them. The university is only a short walk from the centre and is in a very nice environment itself; lots if trees and green spaces make for a delightful experience.

I chose my university based on the feel of the city. Winchester might not be the best place to go out club-wise but the beauty of this place really makes up for it. I would not trade the history, endless green trees & fields for anything in the world. I think it’s important to think about whether or not you can imagine living in a place when considering Universities. If you don’t feel comfortable in a place then you’ll never experience what uni can really be like!

Winchester is a lovely city full of culture and history with many links to both the sea and the city. However the city itself can sometimes lack. If you are looking for a place with a raving nightlife a walk away from your uni house or some lewisite activities such as bowling without having to get a train then this isn’t the place for you. There are plenty of bus and train links and not to mention there are plenty of lovely walks and natural beauty in the surrounding area.

It was a nice town with beautiful historical buildings which were always interesting. There was a good variety of stores such as a new look and an H&M which provided good value for money. Pleanty of supermarkets such as Waitrose and Co-op. The train station was nice as it linked to London for about £30 which made for a nice weekend. It was the perfect mixture of quiet whilst always having something to do and see. Everything on the high street was close together and provided everything you could want
