St Andrews

St. Andrews is a really nice small town. It's very calm and it's easy to walk around. Food is really good, there are few restaurants but you can find the majority of the cuisine that you want. Shopping is a bit limited as there is no shopping mall so you have to make do with what you can find in town. There are few nice bars and pubs that are great for a night out! Transport is good but there is no real need for it! By walking 30 minutes you can get from one end to the other. However, the weather sometimes makes you want to stay inside and not go out!

The town itself is beautiful and it's really nice being by the sea. There are great cafés and restaurants but as far as a night out goes St. andrews doesn't really do the job - unless you like hanging out at bars.

St Andrews as a town makes for a very unique student experience! There's no denying that the surroundings are beautiful; you can study at the library with a view of the sea and enjoy barbeques and parties on the 3 different beaches. Nights out are limited in choice with the union being the main option but due to this, house parties are usually abundant. Unfortunately it is an expensive place to live but there are always manageable, cheaper options if you look for them.

St Andrews is small, therefore everything will be limited, however there's a good amount of pubs and restaurants, more than what you'd expect from such a small place, and it's all very student focused, therefore there's a decent amount of shops too. It's not a big city, but it's better than what I was expecting. The other main downside is that it's really expensive.

St Andrews is an absolutely stunning place. You will never be more than 10 minutes walk from a fabulous beach and you will always be surrounded by beautiful and historic buildings. There is a good range of supermarkets ranging from M&S to Aldi and a good few clothes shops. There are loads of cafes, bars and pubs so you will never be short of places to go!

The town was at first bigger than I expected it to be. Geographically, St Andrews maybe isn’t as small as a lot of people might expect. But after living there for a while, the town shrinks and becomes increasingly claustrophobic. There’s only one place to go for a night out that resembles a club - the union. And the shops are severely limited and there are too many extremely expensive boutiques which are obviously aimed at tourists and rich students’ parents. So you have to go to Dundee or to Edinburgh for a wider selection. There are lots of beautiful sites and historical places around the town though, and it truly is a stunning place to live. The accommodation in St Andrews, however, is extremely expensive and limited in selection, and it is nearly impossible to find decent affordable private housing.

Heaven forbid if you are man in St Andrews because there's no affordable men's shops to buy clothes from and the H&M only accommodates for stick thin, 6ft 2 boys. St Andrews has plenty of cafes but not enough of everything else. You can't buy underwear in St Andrews, or McDonald's. You can't buy an affordable cinema ticket in a decent sized cinema. You can't buy anything electronic. Dundee is actually quite a way a way, especially if you have to get on the bus. So, essentially it's only good for those tourists wanting tea and cake in one of the many cafes.

The pituresque town of St Andrews is a unique experience of university life. From the stunning Scottish scenery of the beaches and pier to the historical sites of the castle and cathedral, St Andrews provides an opportunity to engage with both the past and the present. A wide array of quanit cafes, book stores and community events to get lost in compensates the lack of big shopping centres and city life. Although notoriously expensive in many ways, the life style and unique experience of St Andrews makes it an unforgettable university experience.

Although St Andrews is a beautiful town with a fantastic academic setting and scenery, nights out and eating out are particularly limited. There is a limited choice of bars and clubs, the food places tend to cater more for golfers rather than students. The transport situation is not particularly ideal. There are many buses to dundee but the buses to Glasgow and Edinburgh are very slow.

St. Andrews is an incredibly small but quaint historical town in the north east Neuk of Fife. There’s plenty of shops to offer clothes shopping as well as many fine quality eateries. The major downside of St Andrews is the size however. Due to St. Andrews being classically three streets there’s a particular lack of affordable student housing which every January creates a struggle of finding a property for you and your friends; a struggle that may not exist at larger urban universities. Adjacent to three beautiful beaches and the world’s first golf course; the beauty is hard to beat.

Quite a small town and so you bump into everyone you know. Nights out can be sometimes good, food, however is great.

Nights out are fairly quiet, no big nightclubs only student union but is fun with your friends. Location is fairly remote so be prepared for long journeys.

St. Andrews nights out are either extremely poor, or, when we have events on (such as FS or Szentek) extremely fun and ridiculously expensive. The only way to get here is by car or by a train that stops 30 minutes outside St. Andrews (forcing us to take a taxi or bus) which is frustrating and honestly unbelievable. For such a small town though we have loads of amazing places to eat of varying price, which almost makes up for the total lack of clothes shops - H&M is just about it.

The town is not very big but there’s still plenty of things to do. It’s very close to Dundee and an hour away from Edinburgh. All the nearby towns are lovely. A bit of a pain to travel to Leuchars every time though since it’s the nearest train station.

The nightlife isnt that great, but it makes you value the people so much more. The accommodation is very expensive for what it is, but the traditions and the community feel makes a great difference. Overall the four years that I had spent there were amazing and I would recommend it to anyone.

Nearest station is leuchars which is 5 miles out of town but there is frequent buses running there. Many bars and the student union. Quite expensive town to live in. Many nice restaurants and coffee shops.

Loads of great places to eat and everything is so central it never takes longer than 10-15 minutes to get anywhere! Transport to other places is minimal - bus is the only option - and expensive! There are a few essential shops around but no shopping centres - there isn't even a primark or a topshop. Nights out are fun but with very limited choices: about 3 or 4 places, all shutting at 2am. Everything is super expensive, unless you trek to aldi on the outskirts of town. It is still a great place and a lovely student community but it is a very expensive place and feels a little cut off from everywhere else!

Tiny town but lovely... Not much to do but a cinema and a couple of chic and fancy bars that should be far out of the ordinary students budget. Fortunately, the ordinary St Andrews student is not "ordinary".

The worst thing about St Andrews is the fact that it is so remote and far away from anything. This would be completely fine if there would be adequate public transport, but the problem with that is that it is very very expensive. We don't even get a student discount at stagecoach for university students which is ridiculous. The fact that traveling to St Andrews if you don't live in Scotland means that you have to pay a lot of money to just get to the university from the airport makes it less appealing for those who aren't very wealthy to even apply.

Small town with no real clubs and quite expensive generally, but very pretty and great teaching and close knit student community. Sports centre is already very good but undergoing further development still so should be excellent soon.

Although a beautiful place to live, St Andrews is very much a bubble with very little in the way of nightlife and shopping.

Beautiful surroundings, quaint town set on a dramatic coastline. Great for coastal walks and beachside runs. Good selection of independent restaurants. It is inconvenient not having a train station in the town however, and the library is not large enough to accommodate the increasing numbers of students. There is also a limited selection of places to go on a night out. The nights out provided are fun however.

Not much to do really, union isn't great pubs are good not really any clubs. town is quite small so everywhere t is in walking distance taxis are good no McDonalds though which is a problem

It's a great place with many things to do during a night out and great food! The only problems are the fact that the hospital doesn't have emergencies and that accommodation is quite expensive...
