great student place, there are lots of places to eat here including the newly built watermark alongside the huge west quay shopping centre. the night life isn't to bad with small music venues for a great night out in Bedford place and larger more established clubs bringing along the biggest parties in the south coast. not too far away from London, about 1 hr. and a number of great places to visit around like bournemouth and Portsmouth, you'll never get tried of exploring this small city,

For a city with two universities, the overall activities for young students to do is limited, however there is decent nightlife in places but again it does sometimes lack in variety. The music scene is good but could be better. Shopping is pretty good thanks to west quay shopping centre. For a city food and drink is averagely priced but again, if you know where to look you can find cheap deals and good places.

The city is alright, but sadly is far too built for cars, and is a challenge to get around if you don't have a car. There isn't much in the way of a nice local high street. The only nice place to shop is West Quay, but other than that the city feels a little run down. It is pretty affordable though, and has good nightclubs and the occasional bus service.

Southampton is a fun place to live and study. I enjoy being here as you don't actually feel like your in a city! However, I do think it's dirty and not very nice to look at. The High Street is somewhere I try to avoid alot of the time as I don't like the environment there. Unfortunately the homeless seem to be a big problem for many, some claiming they can get physical towards younger members of the public, and make many girls feel unsafe, especially in the evenings.. Shopping however is really good. A wide variety of shops, which range in prices and availability. Westquay is a really lovely place, and the food court at the top serves loads of potential cheaper places to eat during the day!

Southampton is an improving town. It has the standard array of high street shops and restaurants as well a some good independent and local spots. The locals are pretty rough, and there are large amounts of aggressive beggars. This is reflected in the nightlife which I've never been that pushed on here (there are frequent stories of locals stabbing people and getting in fights). Unless you are in uni societies there isn't much to do around the town.

Not that big with good food choices in some areas but could be a better asian food choice. Shopping is good but there could be more choice. The prices when eating and drinking in the city are very expensive.

There are many bus links throughout the city which run on time and allow you to get pretty much anywhere you need, the only problem is that there's multiple bus companies (Uni-Link, Bluestar, City Red and I think one or two more) and there isn't one travel pass that allows access to all of them- which is a bit annoying cost wise. The city centre has everything you'd need all nicely compacted and is a fairly short bus ride from the Universiry of Southampton campus, as well as Portswood, a high street closer to campus with a some good restaurants, pubs and clubs as well as a large Sainsbury's. There is a decent selection of shops and restaurants around, and quite a lot of clubs that all have their own great offers and events on different nights. The main downside is that other than shopping, going to a restaurant or going to a pub/club, there isn't a huge amount to do in Southampton, but that's in comparison to London as it's where I originally from. Overall, Southampton is a nice and compact city which is great for students and is quite nice to live in.

I believe Southampton has good nightclubs for going out, but would benefit from having many more bars that have a bit of atmosphere, as lots of people don't want to just go clubbing. Value for money is good, cabs are much cheaper than in neighbour coastal towns such as Bournemouth. The buses are also cheap, although the bus drivers could definitely do with being friendlier. There is a fun student atmosphere in the town but it can be a little bit rough in certain areas especially in the summer months when the students are away. The dock and port is very impressive, and Southampton has a lot of interesting history. West quay is also a useful shopping centre where you can get anything you need.

The amount of places to go on free periods itsi reduced. The amount of places to eat out it's quite decent! Specially with this new area of west quay!

Nightlife is average - missing a good SU and enough variety in numbers. Alcohol is cheap like at jesters and sobar. Food is class, west quay food is awesome and there is a strong deliveroo scene. transport is failrly poor, bus pass is expensive (although free for freshers). I tend to drive so petrol expenses are high. I know people who cycle which is plausible.

I fell in love with the atmosphere here. It wasn’t easy but for me this was a place of real self-discovery.

At first, I found Southampton very exciting! There is everything that a city needs (parks, outdoor/indoor activities, shops, restaurants, good aesthetics) but, after a while it can become boring. For me, living here became more of doing the same things with different people rather than exploring the city trying to find hidden gems.

Come from a bigger city so coming here felt like it was smaller and quieter. But others who came from smaller towns felt it was a big enough city for them. Depends where you’re from and what you’re used to.

Southampton is a good city. Although it is not the biggest and most buzzing of places. Soton still has a lot to offer. Most notably, the new west quay complex with good choice of food places. However, as you move towards second and third year you tend to move closer to portswood which is further away from the city (you would most probably need a car). The nights out are good there is just a limted selection of clubs, and sometimes the club nights can become repetitive.

Southampton is a very boring town with not many cultural attractions, museums, art galleries or events. Even the restaurants are the typical chain restaurants such as Nando’s or Bella Italia. Nothing special ever happens in Southampton. Theres only one high street with the usual stores, no interesting boutiques or book stores. The nightlife is okay if you’re into commercial music and clubs such as oceana or pop world. There arent much nights with alternative djs.

There’s not much to do within Southampton, most of the fast food places are in a way disappointment. You have Deliveroo over taking the roads with their bikes.

There's a lot of bus routes throughout the city, so its really easy to get around. There's a large shopping centre in the middle of town, it's got a variety of shops (some designer brands as well), there's a massive IKEA as well for when things get broken and need a cheap replacement. the shopping centre also has a restaurant district backing onto it, so lots of choice for meals out. several cinemas in the town centre, I think there's bowling as well. all in all, quite a lot to do :)

Coming from London, southampton is merely a “city”. Good things: its got a decent transport network that’s never really packed out, a nice new shopping centre (west quay) that has all the major highstreet shops including urban outfitters, topshop, h&m etc and a fresh cinema/restaurant area neighbouring it but there’s not much else to southampton apart from this shopping centre and it’s common. People-wise: Southampton would be nothing but a chav dockyard without the students provided by the two universities populating much of the city. There’s a clear lack of ethnic diversity but it’s not too uncomfortable. I often find myself bored in southampton however, nights out are great

Southampton has great student areas, but still needs some work in the downtown areas. There are lots of great bars, clubs and restaurants. For those inclined there are a few interesting museums, and it has very large shopping centre. The city has been working hard to improve the city's culture, but the main street still needs work with many shop fronts empty. The student-y places are all on accessible bus routes.

Close to shops, A lot of restaurants around, Good choice of extra curricular activities Different cinemas; showcase and Odeon Student discounts available in most shops and also restaurants

All student residences are extremely close to the city centre which is brilliant for getting around easily. It also means your more willing to get out and about and burn off all those calories from the McDonald’s you ate after a night at oceana. Lots of parks and pretty places to go and look at at. Although the parks are very dangerous after night and a few dodgy places.

Good location, not far from all the attractions and shops. Not too long to walk into uni and the coach station and train station are a reasonable distance.

Big city with good shopping, there’s a big shopping centre with all the shops you’d need and an Ikea! The night life is good, there are lots of clubs and bars. It’s a good value city for living in as rent isn’t too much, which is good for students!

Not much to do when the weather isn't good. Int he summer months its easy to go to the common for BBQs etc, and if you have access to a car you can go to the new forest or to beaches nearby, but this is hard without one. Nightlife is average, you get some good DJs, and transport is good around the town. Gets a bit boring by third year as apart from going out or going to the park theres nothing else to do.
