Connaught: Comprised of several blocks each holding approx 30 students. Good sized rooms, close to the university (15 min walk/5 min free bus ride). Connaught is catered, 2 meals per day, one on weekends therefore the kitchen facilities are very small,1 oven and fridge per block but everyone had a cupboard. Common room is a good size and nice place to hang out with friends. Library and gym are basic however the campus facilities are very close. Laundry facilities were not ideal, only three washing machines for the whole building. Overall, I had a great experience in halls and made lots of new friends.

Great experience! Not the most glamorous halls but by far the best social life. Could do with a bit of a referbeshment but had everything you want from halls. Close to uni and regular social events to help introduce new friendship groups.

There as an Amazing social atmosphere. Flats were kept clean and maintained at all times. Rooms were semi modern and fitted out well. Heating and Wi-fi were excellent

Excellent new rooms, always clean. Amazing communal feel and social experience. Could have had a bit more going on for just the specific halls in freshers week but overall was the best living experience I could have asked for. Rooms equipped with everything you could need and enough space for all your things.

Not so good value for money but the food was alright. Pretty much the only catered halls at the time, although the socialization places were great. Excellent people and good residence support team.

its pretty jokes to have so many people around its quite peak that its far from everything but then the price is good which means you have more money to get wavy at switch with the bois

I was in Monte 1, a flat of 21 people, sharing 2 kitchens and 2 bathrooms. The room was of decent size, and well equipped, i shared a sink with one other girl, which worked fine. Heating was always on so it was super hot. With 21 people in the flat, it was very social, with people always up for doing something, although the small table provided made it hard to all get together/ have flat meals. The bus stop was right outside and super convent to catch to uni (10 mins) and town (25mins) with the free bus pass provided. The reception staff were always helpful and a small gym is just around the corner at connaught, although I used the one on campus

Wessex Lane is not too bad a place. Monte can get cold but the place is pretty good value for money. The kitchen's are not amazing. The best thing is probably that the rooms are en-suite and large with plenty of storage. It is quite far from the city centre. The university is about a 20 min walk from the halls. There are rats though. The nearest supermarket is a Tesco's that is a 7 minute walk away. There is also a Sainsbury's nearby that is a 12 minute walk away. There is a burger king relatively nearby. There is a Domino's too that is close by. The reception is open 24hours. The only issue is that if you have a parcel and it is day when they have a lot of parcels, it may take all day for them to process it and allow you to collect it. It is quite a social halls of residence.

Location quite far from uni but always easily accessible by the efficient bus service ran by the University of Southampton. Facilities basic but good enough for first year. Room also basic, but a decent size with a big desk. Kitchen area also quite small but was cleaned once a week. The social experience best thing about the whole halls. Activities were always organised and available in freshers week and throughout the year there was always activities taking place to get involved in. Always something to do and people to see, and not always just drinking activities. Barbecues were put on in the summer and other games on the grass area in the halls. All in all a great halls and would always recommend.

Good fun not amazing location. I was catered so I got to eat nearby at a prepaid rate which I am missing this year now that I’m not in catered hall. I was J block.

I stayed in V block and it had a really good social atmosphere. It is a brand new block so everything is really modern and really enjoyed living there. Had an ensuite and room very spacious - shared kitchen very nice too! Quite expensive though, and no large social area to pree unlike Glen!

Location is 10 minutes by bus to campus. However feels very isolated from the rest of Southampton in terms of main shopping areas (Porstwood, Westquay). Facilities are good, on site laundy (some machines occasionally break down), common room, computer room and friendly main reception with a fantastic parcel collection. Social experience is good - communal events occur throughout the year including quizes, movies etc. Gym very close by although it is small (and you need Sports and Wellbeing Membership to access it). My room was a massive self contained studio with a sizeable kitchen and dining area, and a large bedroom. Toilet and shower are very small.

Had a really great time at these halls of residence in my first year. Close to campus, right next to a bus stop, and a good bunch of flatmates.

Whilst only 10-15 minutes from campus and with excellent bus access, this halls is fairly far from basic (student) amenities; most nightclubs are at least a 40 minute walk or a long bus ride away; the crossroads are horrendous at rushhour +/- 60 minutes. My kitchen was falling apart and had mice in it for months, and my fire door didn't close properly. However, lots of people so you could always make friends for a night out :)

I stayed at Montefiore Halls at Wessex Lane from September 2016 until June 2017 and first and foremost, I absolutely loved my experience from start to end. I stayed in Block K, Flat 3 and my room was 236 I believe. There’s nothing to really fault about the halls, they’re perfect if you want a basic room with an en suite and in my block I had 6 other flat members. In terms of location: location was perfect really, you get a free bus pass in your first year which was great because you could get anywhere for free, meaning that nowhere was ever too far to get to. Uni was about 7 minutes away on the bus, there was a Tesco express near which took about 5/10 minutes to walk to, a McDonald’s was another 5 minute walk (perfect for those 3am chips after a night out!) and Wide Lane sports ground was another 5/10 bus journey away if you’re thinking of joining a sports club or society. The only downside to the location was that it wasn’t particularly close to any of the clubs unlike some of the other halls (Mayflower for instance was in the city centre). However, again this wasn’t a problem because of the bus pass and was nice to actually be away from it all- the halls themselves provided great night-life/pres/entertainment and in my Year were considered the place to be for pres due to their sheer size and socialbility as Monte houses around 2000 students. In terms of social experience: amazing as stated above, especially in freshers week, met so many amazing people and people from other halls came to ours for pres due to the social experience. One of my favourite memories was the block parties- the whole block would have a party (approx 56 students). Also, even if your flat weren’t/aren’t in, there was always something going on or someone about to socialise with. In terms of social areas: this is something Monte falls down on. The only social areas they had were the boiler room (which was hardly ever open) and the JCR which was actually in another halls (Connaught) down the road! However, it wasn’t really a problem for us because we just socialised in the kitchen most of the time, but would’ve been nice to maybe have a lounge area- we ended up having a lot of chats with random people in the laundrette on site! In terms of my room: I couldn’t have wanted anything more really, the only reason I knocked a star off was because the style of the block was 1960s decor- it never bothered me but may bother others that come here. My room was huge, I had 4 people stay on my floor before and there was still room to move about. My en suite was great- everything was basically decorated which was perfect so I could add my own touches on my room like photographs etc! Value for money: Not great, I think I paid £130 a week, which is a LOT of money considering the brand new halls at Chamberlain which were much more modern weren’t even that more expensive! However, I loved my halls and wouldn’t have changed my experience at all or wished to have been in a different halls. Internet/Wi-Fi: great most of the time, got a bit slow around 9pm/10pm but not really a problem. Overall points: kitchen could be bigger with a sofa, we only had tables and plastic chairs so was annoying when we wanted to socialise but most of the time we just chilled in someone’s room. Monte Halls can be quite noisy so probably not best for someone who likes peace and quiet- maybe something like Bencraft would be better for those people. Overall, I couldn’t recommend Monte enough and I look back on my first year with SUCH fond memories- it was one of the best years of my life and I loved it so much.

The halls are fairly close to uni and they offer a free bus pass. The bus service is very good and a lot of buses present that can take you to uni. However, matresses are old and unconfortable and sometimes it takes a lot of time to get issues fixed.

I was in b block, one of the cheapest halls at the uni but it was obvious why, had 21 people to a flat with 4 showers and toilets and only one kitchen, we had mice, I had mould in my room and the building was clearly old. However having all those people definitely meant a good chance to socialise. Also no communal space except the kitchen, which didn't even have enough chairs for the whole flat

Awesome, no complaints, is very sociable and always awake, people are around to help at all times and there is no way you could ever get bored due to its close proximity to everything

Great halls to say in during first year. There is a bus stop literally just outside the main entrance which makes for easy access to uni with a free bus pass also included in the room. As a catered student, the food was great. Well served and presented with it being regularly rotated each day to provide some variety.
