Wessex Lane

Very cheap, definitely worthwhile paying less for accommodation and having more money left over for going out etc, loads of people, basic facilities, not much going on, on the bus route, free bus pass is useful, far from city centre and portswood

Good value for money. Actual rooms vary- some are way newer and larger than others, so it depends solely on luck. Nice social feel although lacking in any sort of communal area which I feel is really pretty awful for a first year halls. Location is near enough to uni and Portswood, although a little far from town, but the free bus pass is a great little add on.

Reasonable distance from university and city centre. Reception open 24 hours and helpful. Wardrobes and drawers are spacious. Rooms not worth the amount. It has a single bed and wet floor shower. Kitchen is small

The social experience is the best thing about these halls. But unfortunately they are very overpriced for the quality of facilities. The kitchen is falling apart, very outdated, and there is a big pest problem with both rats and silverfish. Maintenance do not respond to problems like this which becomes frustrating. I also don’t have a shower head and even though I’ve asked for one I don’t have one! The room is spacious but I have a big draft and it gets very cold! It’s furthest from the city centre but a quick bus journey to campus which is good.

I am gaving the best experience in Montefiore 2 Halls. I was lucky to tick the box saying that I want to be hostef in a quiet block, so I have no problems with the noise. When somebody in my block wants to party, we all have to agree in order to proceed. I was kind of unlucky because I recieved the room E, which is the smallest in the flat. Furthermore, the kitchen and bathroom are really well taking care of teice a week by the cleaning laidies which are very nice. I am in very good relationship with my flatmates and we are organising some nights out together. Choose Wessex Lane also because of the common and study rooms in the Connaught! Great way to make friends/study/relax.

Location is great, easy access to university through regular buses and can also walk, takes 10 minutes. Free bus pass with halls aswell. Only downside is, it is the furthest from the city center but dont find this to be a big issue. Wessex is the biggest halls so it is very social. I stayed in non ensuite and it was better than expected, common spaces were cleaned regularly, overall it was a good experience.

My particular flat was really basic, with around 20 of us sharing 1 kitchen with 2 ovens which was not great. The toilets were like public toilet cubicles so you never got any privacy. I had to share a sink and pay the same price as others who got their own sink which makes no sense. But the good things are that there were good bus links, close to Wide Lane and riverside park, it was nice to have so many people in a flat because you knew you’d get on with at least some of them. It was also one of the cheapest.

The halls in wessex are kept clean and the stay here is comfortable. 24/7 service at the reception and value for money. There is a study zone and social place available in the hall too. Busses come every ~ 7 minutes and is very convenient.

Monte was by far the biggest social hub of all the halls - parties every night, left right and centre. Only issue is it was a 20 min walk to uni or 10 minute bus ride!

Social experience great, location is ideal as free bus. Room was a bit of a dive and facilities not the greatest but was the best year!

Hadn’t seen my halls before moving in. Was very surprised at the amount of space and storage. Bathroom of okay size, two toilets is ideal for the amount of people in the flat. Kitchen appliances are OK, an extra fridge and freezer would be ideal. Monte reps helpful during freshers and organising events etc

Fantastic social atmosphere and nightlife even if rooms are basic and food bland - wouldn’t change it for the world!

While the facilities are good - common room, laundry room on site - the bar that is boosted is rarely open, I never actually went in or saw it in use. The actual halls I stayed in were disgusting, there was 21 of us in a flat that shared one kitchen smaller than my parent's house. I didn't even have my own sink, the toilets and the showers were more often blocked than not so you would be standing in your own dirty water. The baths that we had were disgusting, we never used them due to fear of how gross and dirty they looked. We also had an awful mouse problem, they were in the kitchen and even in some rooms, I caught 3 while I was there in people's room, and there was little done about this. If it wasn't for the friends I had made and the people I met I 100% would have moved out. Overall disappointing.

The campus is only 8mins bus ride from the accommodation. Montefiore House has spacious rooms each with a good sized ensuite which are cleaned regularly. The kitchen is also cleaned and the rubbish taken out for us. The common room and study rooms in Connaught Halls (which is directly opposite) can be used by us and are a great social hub. I am catered and the food is good quality and we are allowed to spend the catered allowance anywhere on campus if we want. Montefiore Halls is by far the most sociable halls of residence.

Ok for a cheap accommodation, staff can sometimes be rude and unhelpful but can also be decent at times. Boiler room is rarely used which is a shame and wasted space especially as we have no common room( you can’t say Connaught is our common room)

Social is good, there’s always tuff going on in the common room such as pizza nights and pre drinks. Also it’s nice that I don’t have to cook food being self catered. The main problem I have is the lack of social space within my flat. We have a tiny kitchen with little fridge space and no table, which people in Monte or other halls will have.

Love 4/6 of my flat mates other two keep to themselves. Bedroom is fine kitchen is a little cramped. Bathroom is so small you can’t get to the sink unless you fully go in and shut the door. It’s a wet room so the floor get soaked every time you have a shower.

The rooms at wessex Lane were good and great value for money as they were the cheapest for an en suite. The kitchen wasn’t the best and didn’t contain any social areas in the hall block. However the site did have washing machines and a gym and great security and occasionally the bar was used and BBQ areas.

Reasonable location with free bus pass first year so only a 10min bus ride to uni. Rooms surprisingly big and occasionally get free pizza! Main downside is probs the rats and silver fish

Being in Connaught, I lived in old quad in a block with 12 others. The hall has great facilities including a gym, bar, common room, cantine, and loads of grassy areas- great to chill on in the summer. Also had a large room with a good desk and wardrobe. No sink but that wasn't much of a problem as the bathrooms were just down the hall. Didn't have a great social space in our block, so pres were always in the hallway which got pretty cramped. Relatively far from campus but a free bus pass with regular busses ensures that it really doesn't take long to get to lectures. I had an awesome time there, and made many good friends.

Location is fairly close to university, however it is not the nicest of living conditions. The atmosphere is great and being part catered was a massive bonus to not worry about 2 meals of the day. Don’t get on the wrong side of the staff though because they can be your best friend or worst enemy.

Location is a bit far from everything, not a very safe walk back from clubs. Noisy because of the amount of apartment blocks in one small area. Standard small basic accommodation.

Good experience with room to improve. The social areas are good and the socials organised by reps were engaging.

Fantastic social side, fair bit of mould in some of the rooms, cleaners were annoying as fuck, laundry cost too much, needs to be more communal areas but the kitchens are usually good enough, asbestos stickers kinda freaked me out
