Glen Eyre

As a postgraduate student I wanted to live in halls but I didn’t want the same experience as when I was a first year. The postgrad halls at Glen Eyre are affordable, in a great location and quiet. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk to the main Highfield Campus and you get a free bus pass with the accommodation fees which really comes in handy. There are 5 rooms in each flat with a shared bathroom. The kitchen is really big, definitely big enough for everyone. The communal areas are cleaned a few times a week which helps as well! The rooms are a decent size, the sort of size you would expect for a uni room and the rooms have a sink. Overall, if you’re a postgrad student looking to live in affordable halls that are close to uni and quiet enough for you to stay focussed, I would definitely recommend Glen Eyre halls and specifying that you want to live in the postgrad halls rather than the undergrad halls.

Glen Eyre as a whole is a beautiful place to live, lovely halls of residence. I stayed in Richard Newitt, decent room, shared a toilet and shower with one other person. Typically 4 per flat. A bit pricey as they are old rooms but the way the blocks are spread out is very sociable and has a homely feel to it unlike a lot of halls which have a more clinical feel. Very nice being only 15 min walk from uni.

Kitchen is a very good size. Modern furnishings with nice ensuites. Good common room and laundry room. Only a 10/15 minutes walk from highfield campus

Rooms were a decent size for their value, including the bathroom (ensuite). Cleaning in the communal areas (corridor and kitchen) was done everyday by a member of staff to a good standard and bins were taken out by them too which was very convenient. Very good for social life, easy to go to friends' flats and enough room in the kitchen for a few of us to spend the time. The common rooms were well taken care of and had comfortable seating. Every few months or so, we would get free Domino's pizza and other activities such as outdoor cinema also took place.

The halls are great. I lived in Chamberlain Halls and the review is specifically for them. Very well maintained and overall had an amazing experience living there. Top quality.

I am in a type 2 en-suite in Glen Eyre and the facilities are really good in it as well as the space for the kitchen. My building also has a lift which is really helpful. It's in a great location that's served by the bus and is only a 10 minute walk from campus. It's however one of the most expensive accommodations available. You do get a lot of value for money but laundry isn't included which makes it a whole lot more expensive considering we are students on budgets.

Good halls that are lovely and big wih lots of green space. Close walk to campus which is very convenient! Helpful cleaning staff, security and reception staff, reception operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year so there's always someone there If you need them

The location is great for all those who are fans of sleeping in. If you don't fancy having to wake up extra early to get a bus then glen eyre is the hall for you. The walk to uni is merely a 10 minute walk and even if you do decide to take a bus, one leaves every ten minutes. Standard facilities and social experience could be better. The rooms are spacious and airy.

The location is convenient as it's only a 15 minute walk from the University. Also it's easy to get a bus into the city centre. The rooms are quite big and of a suitable standard. The kitchens have adequate facilities and are cleaned weakly.

Great facilities all on the halls campus with great social space. Laundry and reception are central to all the halls which is great whatever block you're in. Great space to meet with friends and study.

I was located in the Brunei halls in glen eyre. The accommodation was a non-ensuite single bed room. I shared a kitchen with 7 other people and had 3 bathrooms between us. While it was the cheapest, it was still in a good location, only 5 minutes walk to Highfield Campus, and the halls themselves were sound. The cleaner was lovely and very useful, and the rooms were nicely spaced.

A very large collection of buildings that is great for meeting people and feels very natural despite being deep in the city. The staff are always around and helpful and the facilities are well looked after. Despite this the variation in rooms, despite being the same category is high and you can be given worse rooms than others for the same price. I enjoyed my time in halls as it was very pretty and I managed to find many friends around me. I would return to the same halls if I could as it was particularly good value for money

I stayed in Richard Newitt Courts, though I was placed in a room of a smaller size in B block, we benefit from much larger kitchens than other blocks, Richard Newitt in general I feel suits me perfectly, I share 2 showers and 2 toilets between 4 of us so is absolutely ideal, I wouldn't want to live in any other block, for the price in comparison to en suite rooms, I would much much more suggest to live here instead

The location was good as it was close to university, the downside however was it not having a small corner shop close to it. In the block I was in there could've been a better communal common room facility as there wasn't much space to socialise in the kitchens. The social experience was good and my room was good quality, I liked that it had a double bed and a really big desk.

I lived in category 1 non-ensuite accommodation last year and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. The rooms were admittedly quite small but there was plenty of storage space and enough space for it to not be too cramped. My flat was shared between 9 people with three bathrooms which was just right. The bathrooms were cleaned a few times a week and things like toilet paper were provided which was definitely appreciated. The only downside was the size of the kitchen as there were so many people sharing the one kitchen but only about 2 counters, meaning that if more than two people wanted to cook - which happened very regularly - then it would either be really awkward or someone would just have to wait until the others were done.

Selborne; Chancellor's Court, Glen Eyre. I was on the ground floor of Selborne for my first yesterday of uni. It was an okay building with lovely enhanced bedrooms with lots of storage. My room overlooked the green which was especially lovely in summer. The internet was fantastic (until we very accidentally kicked a football at the router). It was only a short walk away from uni so I could always lie in before lectures, however it was a trek to get to, and especially from, any clubs and bars. Other flats in Selborne were fantastic for socialising with other flats, however that wasn't the case for ours. We had a very small kitchen and the door to the flat went straight outside so we didn't have other flats in our corridor we could get to know. However, we formed a close knit group with in our flat and 3 of us still live together 3 years later. Overall it was a fantastic place to start my uni experience.

Great location being near the university! The fact you get given a free bus pas for uni busses with halls really helped as you could travel into the city for free aswell! The university offered ensuite rooms which meant you don’t have to share a bathroom, which was very spacious, and so were the bedrooms. I would say that the more people in the flat the better as you have more chances of meeting people you get along with.

The university halls at Southampton at Glen eyre depended very much on the individual hall. The white buildings towards the back were better quality whereas the older redbrick buildings were quite shabby and cold in the winter.

The location of the Glen Eyre Halls is excellent! Is quiet and has lots of green spaces. When the sun is shinning and is hot outside you can use the grills provided and have a great time with your friends. During this time you can see how many people are in these halls (spoiler alert: there are many). The activities that happen here are a downside because there aren't so many throughout the year. But that didn't stopped anyone from using the social areas and create a spontaneous event. The rooms are very good, with enough space for all your things.

Nice size room, good flat mates, nice outside environment and close to campus, also got a free bus pass included with Halls for the academic year.

Halls are not as pleasant as mayflower, due to not being as modern. However, the may look outdated but they are clean and have a lot more room than other halls. Only down fall is no power shower. But halls are so close to uni, so you’ll never miss a 9am, can’t say the same for those in mayflower. The night life are glen is amazing and get a good mixed bunch of people opting for this accommodation too! Would recommend.

Location of God, silent calm and close to the uni. Although quite a distance to centre. My shower had no pressure and this issue next got resolved by maintenance. Occasionally no hot water.

I was in Hartley Grove under Glen Eyre/Chamberlain. The en suite rooms were a nice size, fairly narrow but long and had lots of storage. Location good as 5-10 minute walk away from uni. Having a ground floor kitchen next to a footpath meant everyone walking past could see you but you got used to it! Carpet was quite old and could have been cleaned before I arrived as all my hair stuck to it, bathroom smelt weird occasionally but otherwise fine. Kitchen fairly good size for 6 people in total, good fridge and freezer space. Fairly social halls, could easily hear people in the kitchen though.

The accommodation is a reasonable size, however it is aged. There is a good study area opposite where I was staying that I often went to write my essays. The doors were secure and my room was big, it was ventilated well with a large window. There is student support near by that visited us once when we had a problem, they handled the situation well and make sure everything was okay. It would be nice if the halls allowed small pets.
