Ranmoor/Endcliffe

Endcliffe and ranmoor are great as this is where the majority of first year students live meaning your friends are neve more than 5 minutes away. Most rooms have en-suite bathrooms, which was a must for me as one doesn't have to share a bathroom with people you don't know who may not be the cleanest. There is 24/7 security which means you never feel unsafe whilst in your flat or walking around endcliffe at night. However as it's such a bit village there are many maintenance issues, which are usually fixed quickly, but are an inconvenience

The location is a but further away from the uni so it's about a 20 minute walk to most of the university buildings. It's near a parader of shops that has a Morrison's, Sainsbury's and Costa to name a few. There is a building called the ridge where they hold Zumba, yoga and have a gym as well as study space and table tennis, a pool table and a PS4. I lived in ranmoor so there wasn't much socially apart from activities in the ridge, but endcliffe is a 5 mins walk away and you can go to the edge which has a bar and a cafeteria. My room was decently sized, with an en-suite bathroom but the shower was cold most of the time :(. Not a lot of wardrobe space but there is space under the bed and air of desk space and shelves. Bathroom is a wet room with an inbuilt shower. Flat size varies depending on your building but I shared with 6 others who were quite messy unfortunately but you could be lucky. Overall was a decent experience but if I had todo it again, I'd choose city accommodation just because it's a lot nearer and saves me money on bus. PSA: if you lose you keys or get locked out, security can open it for you at any time of the day/night, just call them.

Cupboards broken, toilets filthy, flooding in kitchen, promised two fridges but only got one, spider infestation

In first year I stayed in Stephenson Hall, catered accommodation, which was an incredible student experience, primarily because of the people I met in it and the good times we had. However, at times this was overshaddowed by the excessive shared damage charges which were shared with the whole corridor, reguardless of whether we even used the other corridor and no one got their deposits back. Another problem with this accommodation is the actual accommodation, it is extremely small and not even shown on university open days it is that disgusting. Shared showers are not for everyone understandably and the canteen food is horribly overpriced to the point where £50 a week can only give you one evening meal a day and a sausage bap. Despite its many flaws, it has its own library and hall and is university renowned as being one of the loudest and most enjoyable halls socially as you are forced to get to know each other, it just depends whether you are in halls for a year of fun or study.

When I moved in it was only 3 years old! Great communal space, large ten bedroom flat! All en suites

Great buzz, great quality, mine was a good size, some were smaller! 20/30 minute walk to uni. Holds some of my best memories in those halls! Would’ve stayed there if I had the choice 100%

Lived in Crewe flats which is very close to endcliffe, great size rooms. social aspect is almost entirely luck if you get a large flat of 10 then guaranteed a few people will be sociable and go out with you etc. everything was pretty great.

The halls themselves are nice, the rooms are pretty modern and clean. However, this also gave them a kind of clinical feel sometimes and I also had quite a narrow room which was annoying. In terms of social aspect, I met some of my best friends there, however in general the curbar block wasn’t great. Endlciffe itself is a pretty location.

Probably the best student accommodation around. The Village shop is very useful, and the edge has all you would ever want from a bar. Also a bonus that there are very few if any bad halls to be put in.

Relatively modern facilites within ensuite rooms although it is ageing a bit. Good sound proofing between rooms and heating works well. Everyone is relatively close together. Kitchen is a bit small but is good for pres. Its in a very nice green part of the city but is a bit far from the uni campus with a 25 min walk. Is also about a 30 to 45 min walk from the city centre meaning you probably need to take the bus. Overall is probably one of the newer better halls in the Uk, although there are better ones at other unis.

It is perfect, could do ask for anything more. Night life is good, good student life, everyone in the village is a student. Parties everywhere people to talk to and good facilities too

Location was a bit far like 30 minute walk from uni but endcliffe itself was so lovely, so much green space outside my window I could watch rabbits and squirrels. Nice bar/place to get food aswell. Good facilities - endcliffe has tons a free classes like yoga and boxing fitness etc. My room was in cheapest halls with a shared bathroom but amazing social experience and pretty decent room size for what I was paying.

Facilities were great in the rooms and flats, but ranmoor culd have done with a shop like endcliffe. The ridge was good fun but not sure why it was only ever my flat in there !

I lived in an older part of Endcliffe that wasn't advertised to prospective students, so when I arrived I was a bit disappointed. We didn't share a door or hall with anyone else, so it wasn't very sociable like the rest of Endcliffe and I only made friends with my flatmates. We had rooms twice the size of those in the rest of Endcliffe, and even though it was shared bathrooms we had sinks in our rooms which was good. The heating was always on so it was warm all the time, and everything generally worked and didn't need replacing. The shower was surpringly good but small, and got infested with silver fish at one point. I had to ask for my mattress to be replaced at the start of the year because it you fell through it it was so soft! It was a bit closer to uni than the rest of Endcliffe which was good. Overall I had a good experience here but it could have been better, however I had the cheapest accommodation possible so what was I to expect!

I loved my experience in halls due to the en suite facilities and high quality buildings. I also loved the flat parties!

Really nice rooms, ensuite, good kitchen facilities, kept clean by a cleaner who comes every 2 weeks. Each room is well equipped with a large desk which is really useful. The location is really good. Short walk from the university buildings and from shops and parks. The grounds are really nice, especially in the summer. Lots of grass and flowers an even a pond. Village store and the Edge are both really useful to have nearby. Very social as most 1st year students live in Endcliffe and Ranmoor. There is very little choice as all rooms are the same which means there are no cheap options. However, this does mean that everyone is mixed together so there is no voluntary segregation of richer/poorer students which is good

Very expensive for what you get with the flats. However, such a nice area with amazing facilities on sight. Having so many people in one place makes it so sociable but still not too loud.

The Endcliffe village is perfect for those that don't mind a bit of a walk to uni and the nearest town, and that appreciate greenery! Beautiful fields, trees etc. There's a village store on site which is good for emergencies but quite expensive! Downside is that it is quite a loud area (as you'd expect with students) and I found it difficult to get to sleep 50% of the time because of the noise.

The accomodation was comfortable and well located, near the shops, near other students and not far from university too. There were on-site laundry facilities as well as a bar, cafe, and a small store.

I stayed in Derwent, in the Endcliffe village. It was a 10 person flat on the ground floor, all en-suite rooms and was self-catered. The type of the accommodation, at least for my block and the other newer ones, was very modern and typical of what you see at lot of universities nowadays. It’s not massive, but big enough for a year. The common space in the flat wasn’t really large enough for all 10 people to be in there doing things (apart from chatting/pres etc) at the same time. There were two ovens and two hobs between the 10 of us, so could get crowded at times. As a student village, Endcliffe is ideal. With a bar/pub, village shop and catering halls on site, it has everything you really need. It’s a short walk from some larger ‘local’ shops, but quite a trek from the nearest big supermarket, so best to get a taxi/drive there with a few others to save money. My major downside when it comes to Endcliffe is the distance from uni: it’s approximately 25-30 minutes walk, and to the city centre it’s about 45. Whilst most people in first year are located in Endcliffe, it’s unfortunate that it takes so long to get to town, and more often than not, you will take a taxi (though if split between 5/6 of you it would only be about £1 each).

Location was miles away at Ranmoor from university and a bit of a walk to... well anything really, but it was quieter than Endcliffe which looked like a nightmare on a night if you enjoy sleep! It’s random who you get put with, and you can’t guarantee you will get a long with them, however you can always get on with the people in other flats in your building and everyone gets to know each other really fast. 3am fire alarms aren’t the best thing to get up to and it’s expensive for what you get really. But overall good for experience.

Very social accommodation as big student village so people always around and flat parties easy to get to. Rooms are fairly modern and nice. Big kitchen with everything you realistically need. However is far from the city centre and at the top of a hill so walking back from anywhere is long, although it’s not too far from the uni - about 20 minute walk.

Extremely noisy, dirty, unsuitable heating it never works, security is also bad as there doors are always kept on latch so anyone can walk in.

the location is nice - a very good area and lots of food shops/pubs/restaurants/cafes nearby walking distance away. 25 minute walk from campus and the actual accomodation and facilities are great.
