James Watson Hall

James Watson is definitely one of the more social halls in Portsmouth! What it may lack in appearance it certainly is made up in character. I'm glad I chose JW. Any maintenance requests I've had have been solved quickly, I can't fault the staff.

Amazing location near uni buildings, town centre and nightlife. Having an en suite was so nice and it's such a sociable halls as you are near so many bars and clubs so people want to come to you for pres!

Great location for uni and close to the clubs and town. Very sociable place and front desk staff were super nice. The wifi wasn't the best at times and the way to deal with bins could be done better as living on the 8 floor the bins were hard to get rid of.

Very good location for halls, closest to lectures/ campus possibly. A good mix of modern and old style halls and a fairly homely feeling. However maintenance and general feel of the halls can tilt towards more run down sometimes with damage taking long times to fix.

Good location, close to university buildings and night life. Accomadation is good overall with all the essentials provided.

James Watson was a great place to settle into university because you saw new people and the same every day and those same people would become friends. The smoking area was where everyone got to together and spoke to random people. The facilities were good but what can you expect for student halls, if I could go back I would because I genuinely miss the environment and everything about it especially the guys I lived with.

James Watson halls are great for their location and interior. They are quite modern compared to some of the other halls in Portsmouth, with the location being in a central hub for students not far from Gunwharf, commercial Road and the pubs and clubs. One downfall is the cleanliness of communal areas such as the smoking areas and stairs and corridors but other than that, most areas are absolutely fine and great for first year students.

Spacious rooms with laundry room near by. Fast Wi-Fi 24/7 and no bills to pay. Right next to the university and the clubs are a minute away. The town is also only a short ealk away eith gunwharf also near by for further shopping

Average sized rooms. Would be better with a double bed. The team downstairs are always friendly, pool table area with a couple of sofas however common room areas could be bigger/better.

Its located in the best place of the area, the halls themselved are brilliant and the quality is to be desired for. Yet its worth tge money.

The location is good, next to all the clubs but not too loud, easy access to food, bit the fire alarm goes off far too often, heating smells quite burny and doesn't work very well

The halls I stayed had a perfect location near nightclub, uni, the town town centre and train station. Getting to know the area was made so much easier due to this. First year in a place I didn't know anyone, I was felt comforted by everyone I met including my shared flat. My room was just right although downsizing to a single flat bed wasn't ideal however the price compensated. I would recommend to anyone halls of residence is perfect for a first time at uni so u can get your head together and feel just like home.

Little over expensive but the en suite and location make up for it. The room are also kind of small with a weird layout but i would not have changed for anything

Good en suite and really nice kitchen, had a single bed which wasn’t the best, but had a lot of space which was to myself which made up for it! Was a little pricey but compared to the new Hal’s definitely the best value for money I think!! Nearly forgot to mention how close to campus it is! Literally rolled out of bed and was in a lecture two minutes later, absolutely brilliant

Socially very good, they were the best halls at the time but rent does not reflect what it’s actually worth

The staff here are so lovely and helpful. Not always 100% in the kitchens as not all things work properly but rooms are nicely sized. Staff are always there to help and give advice when needed.

I found the halls to be a massive upgrade from my time spent at Langston in QEQM, the bedrooms are a decent size and the kitchen is amazing and offered amazing views over gunwarf.

Great location. Best halls in my opinion, close to all your lecture buildings and night clubs. Town center is about 5 min away and about 2 min away from bateson and hary law halls.

Was great being so close to guildhall walk, meant getting up for lectures was just that bit easier. Rooms are a decent size but kitchens don’t let in much light.

James Watson had the best location by far. Right in the middle of the centre. It’s quite busy and loud so would recommend if you like partying. The rooms are big and have ensuites and are mostly 6 people to flat which is a good number!

Great location, a stones throw away from most university buildings, the only exception being the Institute of Marine Sciences. However first years rarely use this building and there are good free transport links to and from. Great place to meet people, nice rooms with en suites and good kitchen and social area. The only thing James Watson is lacking is a communal area.

Amazing halls overall, so close to town and easy access to lecture halls/local shops. Noisy in the evenings, especially Purple Wednesdays as it was so central to town. Security problems were frequent but this so somewhat to be expected.

It was decent, close to the university and the library, shops are close by and different bars, fairly close to the beach easy place to live if you want to work a while your at university.

Great location, close to lecturers and other local amenities. Can be very loud at times and needs constant maintenance as things break very often. Staff are really friendly especially Andy on reception always happy to help.
