The town in general feels small and busy all the time. Shopping facilities are good since Westgate opened last year, though still lacks some shops e.g no Apple Store. Lots of restaurants, cafes and bars so huge variety of food available- even market in Gloucester Green. Not an excessive amount of things to do unless you are a tourist. Personally find night clubs quite bad
A beautiful and historic with stunning architecture and great places to eat. The Westgate shopping mall is full of all the well-known brands whilst the Cowley area is more known for charity shopping and vintage clothes so there is something for everyone. There is also lots to do with lots of different pubs and music venues and events going on. The only downside really is how expensive Oxford is.
Good shopping at the Westgate center, plenty of restaurants to choose from, can be a little pricey in the Westgate but lots of good value restaurants in the town centre. Have a covered market with cute shops, very nice at Christmas to walk round in. Generally a nice town to visit with lots to do.
The food and shopping experience is amazing, especially with westgate! I would say the best part about Oxford though is the pubs. As it is basically hogwarts, the pubs have just got a really fun, local feel to them. So much atmosphere and it means that the pub crawls are cracking in oxford!
There are lots of traditional pubs, modern night clubs, full of a mixture of people. There is a new WestGate shopping center which is home to a variety of brands from Ted Baker to John Lewis and Primark. There is also a crazy golf course with lots of different themes. Great bus route with some buses running until 3am.
Oxford has a wide range of stuff to do that it is almost impossible to get bored. If you fancy feeling cultured there is the beautiful botanic gardens or the Museum of Natural History if you fancy seeing some dinosaur bones. The new Westgate has a wide range of shop and restaurants or the various other surrounding streets can offer more unique food and shopping choices.
It's a very pretty place to live. Direct train links to Reading and Manchester, X5 bus to Milton Keynes and Cambridge. the Oxford Tube gets you to London for just £11 return and runs all night. Amazing range of food- basically all the coffee shops and fast food places you could ever want (minus shake shack, sadly), a lot of Italian, Indian, Chinese restaurants, pub food is generally good, I personally love the food court in westgate, and the kebab vans (hassans, solomons) which open from 6pm to 4am. Shopping is decent, all your typical high street shops (H&M, topshop, primark etc) can be found in Westgate, although I prefer London as it has a much wider range of shops. Clubbing isn't great but there's a few to pick from and they're usually quite lively, there's a few nice but too-expensive-for-students bars, if pubs are your thing then great, Oxford has a ton of those. Oxford uni students also have access to college bars (each college has one) but they're usually quite dead. I do like St Peters and Baillol though. For entertainment you've got cinema, bowling, ice skating, mini golf.
Good shopping centre with lots of food choices. There are nice places to visit and things to do. I've heard from others that the night life could be better. The transport is also reliable such as the buses.
My absolute favourite city! So pretty and also lots of nice little coffee shops. Really great social vibe as the university is spread over the whole city so there are lots of students around. Not a great choice of clothes shops but there is a great student nightlife scene. Pretty good value for money with lots of student offers in the sity
There is a general consensus that everything you need in Oxford City centre is within a 10 minute walking radiance - and it really is true. The University city is set out for you to swiftly glide between the shops, the libraries, your college, and the clubs. Although Oxford is the most expensive place to live outside of London, there are a multitude of bargains to be grabbed up, using student discounts at the majority of the shops. It is a beautiful city buzzing with student life; there is everything you need and the University sets everything up to enable its students to live with the most ease possible.
The location of the university is brilliant. Nothing is too far. We have got everything we need in and about 2 miles.
Oxford is a great pleace to be. There are plenty of shops (both large chains and unique independent shops). There is plenty to do around town, including sightseeing, botanical gardens, museums etc. Transport is very easy around the whole area. Only negative, because it is a tourist destination, it can get very busy/crowded and some things can be expensive.
There aren’t as many clubs although it’s a small city. Everything is crazy expensive especially rent for students. The amount of tourists is unbelievably annoying as yet again oxford is small. Harassment by homeless people is an issue sometimes.
There are great places to shop and eat around here and it’s the perfect combination of quiet and exciting. London is an easy hour train ride out of town, which is extremely convenient and makes oxford’s location ideal for those with an adventurous flair.
Oxford is a great city although fairly small, there are lots of places to eat out and go out to. Also lots of lovely areas to do things for free which is always a bonus. A great night out plush a great LGBT+ club. Downside is that it's a very expensive city to live in but great if you can budget and isn't as bad as London.
Everything is pretty close by in the centre which is great, and love that its pedestrianised/cycles only!
There's so much on offer you'll barely able to do everything you want to. There's ample facilities for numerous sports and societies; a great selection of museum/exhibitions to discover; and a solid range of clubs around Oxford (I can count 11 off the top of my head) all offering unique nights out. The new Westgate shopping centre is huge and adds to Oxford's plethora of restaurants and shops. Unfortunately prices tend to be a bit high but what did you expect for Oxford? It's one of the most beautiful cities in England with its stunning architecture and beautiful green spaces. Definitely good value for money when you get to live in The City of Dreaming Spires for 3/4 years. Would recommend.
Great nights out, wide range of variety of food restaurants, good shopping! Value for money is not too bad considering it’s oxford, lots of fun stuff to do in and around oxford! beautiful city with short journeys to beautiful countryside! Lots of transport so easy to navigate.
Oxford was a great place to go to uni. Really good balance of independent shops/restaurants/pubs and chains which guaranteed a range to suit all needs. The pubs were particularly good although sometimes very expensive. Now that the Westgate Shopping Centre has reopened, I think there are lots more options and it has made Oxford a real destination for shoppers and days out. Also the location of the city made it perfect to escape to the Oxfordshire countryside but also so easy to get to London!
Oxford is an incredible city! It's so pretty, has a lot of history and stunning architecture. It's also super lively and has such a lovely buzz to it without being overly busy. The Westgate shopping centre is perfect for food, social and shopping. At the same time, there are lots of green places you can go to to escape the hubub of the city centre. Oxford can be a bit expensive though.
Brookes is positioned very well between the busy city centre of Oxford and the smaller Headington Shops. With buses every 5 mins max from the outside of the uni, it's so easy to get into town, to the train station (1 hr to london) or to the club! Small shop on site but headington shops is only 2 stops away (less than 5 mins really) with all the student food shop needs! With a quick 10 minute ride into the city centre full of culture, shops, restaurants and pubs, and a short walk from South Park Brookes is perfectly positioned for an out of town uni with city connections.
Very nice place with the ancient architecture and the incredible Oxford University. There are a lot of lovely souvenirs shop around city centre. I came here on a rainy day but still had a good feeling about this place, I definitely will come back on a sunny day to see how beautiful it is.
Oxford is a beautiful city full of students!! A brand new shopping centre, amazing city to wander round, parks to relax in, great range of bars and restaurants that have student deals. A small range of clubs to chose from but they are all really good nights out
Exceptionally beautiful city with so many little lanes and streets which you always keep discovering more of. Nightlife for students is average-poor, as there is only a couple of big clubs in town which have very generic student nights on each week. There are occasionally good events as there are with every university. The biggest downside to Oxford is the price of living. Rent prices are sky high (not far below London prices) and landlords in Oxford are notorious for ripping off students.
