The catered food at Jubilee Halls are notoriously known to be worse than other catered halls at Uni Park. The quality and quantity of the food is horrible and sometimes gives you a stomach ache. The salad bar usually only serves lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber, which is lacking compared to Uni Park halls which serve pesto pasta, quinoa salad, and the like. Furthermore, Southwell Hall does not have a cafe or a bar because those facilities are at Newark Hall. Thus, the social life is a bit dead to say the least. One more thing: the rooms are too small for what they are worth. Overall, I would not reccomend living here and I personally cannot wait to move out.

Southwell is one of the halls on Jubilee campus, which makes it really convenient for those studying a course based on Jubilee, however not being located on the main campus also means there is an element of missing out on some of the fun social things and a sense of belonging with the rest of the uni. The food is decent, same as you’ll get with any halls in Nottingham, nothing special. There is a social space allowing for pre drinks to take place which is nice. Overall good experience, but if you’re looking for something more social or aren’t based on jubilee, you should look for a hall on uni park.

I personally enjoyed my time at Southwell although slightly removed from university park which is the hub of social activity at the university of Nottingham. Expect to be fed an abundance of potatoes cooked in numerous different ways on the daily by the catering staff in the Hall. Whilst the hall itself is a small one with a heavy international population who traditionally do not get involved in the night out aspect of uni there was a good number of us who grew close and went out on a weekly basis.

Location is good depending on which campus you study as the buses aren’t reliable. The ensuite rooms are nice, but the WiFi isn’t always great. The social areas are good with a pool table, tv.

Nicely laid out on a great location (Jubilee Campus) with regular bus services between campuses for free. Catered accommodation and en suite, but shared pantry equipment could be more up to date
