Great location, good for socialising, big rooms with good bathrooms - food a bit repetitive and boring

Foods not great, but the halls designed perfectly to make it easy to meet people, plus it has its own bar and pool table

The rooms are very spacious and the views of the courtyard/downs are nice. However, the food is very mediocre and is basically potatoes and chicken everyday.

Food is hit and miss here, but the facilities are nice and not too spread out. My room isn't amazing but it's at the lower end here so the rest are good from what I've seen. Friendly staff too

Because it was located across the downs, it was far for students who studied science subjects. This hall is one of the biggest, making it possibly one of the noisiest. You can easily hear students walking up and down the corridor. The pantry was useful, fitted with a sink, kettle, toaster and microwave for making small snacks. You would always bump into people either in the corridor or pantry, and it was easy to meet new people. The room was quite nice, desk was a good size and mini fridge was a nice addition.

Our room size is pretty spacious compared to other halls for the same price. Shoutout to Paula, she's a super lovely cleaner, as are the hall managers at the reception. Hopefully, Dave and Paul the porters are there too, they are absolute legends. Echo bar does some pretty good milkshakes, oreo and malteser flavour milkshakes. The hall library is literally just the same furniture as the canteen but luckily Hallward library is only a 5minute walk away and you can get keys to go to a 'study room' in our hall which has whiteboards, projectors, speakers and a piano. Overall probably the second best hall compared to Hugh Stewart.. unless you end up in Matlock, that's just unfortunate. If you’re going to get a 39week licence room, might as well get a bedroom flat, it’s only a few hundred extra for your own ensuite, kitchen, living room and kitchen, absolutely mad.

Firstly, I think halls are great but for a certain class of people. I notice that there is a big deficiency in diversity in halls which means that it is harder to form safe spaces if you are unfamiliar with the new environment. Moreover, halls are mainly for students who are into drinking and stuff because If you aren't it is difficult to make friends as opposed to in your lectures and societies. It can be quite isolated if you don't have the experience in sharing a kitchen with other people. The dinner isn't too bad but it's tolerable. Location wise I don't have any complaints the campus is amazing and everything is in close proximity, which means you can get up late and still reach lecture on time!

Social experience is very good, food is average, no proper communal space in your block is bad and the JCR is also bad. Would recommend it just on social.

Room was quite big, it was actually fine, sometimes a bit cold. It looked old though and only a single bed

You can get anywhere from a great experience to absolutely awful, as expected from any uni halls of residence. One of the key features of Derby Hall is the Matlock block, a large, 3 floor, ~90 person block compared to all the others! Be prepared for hating half of them for the noise, and being too far away from the other half that you actually like!

Very spacious and big rooms in the majority of blocks. Shared areas cleaned regularly which is helpful. Good social atmosphere in dining hall and common room. Food is hit and miss.

Without trying to be too biased Derby is one of the best halls on campus. If you’re not bothered about fancy accommodation and five star food, but more interested in socialising and making large groups of mates this is perfect. It’s got a bar called Echo which serves perfect hangover food throughout the day and means you can have drinks not w evening about 10 steps for your door. The tutors can be quite restrictive in actual fun but the security guards are fab and often sit with us when you’re having a blem. Honestly gutted to be leaving next year.

Derby hall has a great social atmosphere! It is situated perfectly between the academic side of campus and the rest of the halls. The staff who work here are supportive and friendly. The bar is vibrant and offers a variety of food and drink, which is especially great before a night out! The rooms are nicely designed, spacious and allow you a comfortable environment.

It's a massive hall which means that you'll be meeting new people throughout the year! It's also so useful to have the hall bar, Echo, as another space for social events.

The JCR is very good, it has equipment and lots of space for social events. The rooms are good enough for what I need and have good Internet connection. The food is edible with expetion of some menu items but there has always been an option for me, however my vegan friend has often not had enough options to get proper meals. Location is good for the gym and lectures.

The whole halls feel like a rather large community on its own and within my block, L, everyone is very close and good friends even though we have only known each other such a short time ?? the formals that are held, are a good way of being able to meet up with everyone within the halls, dress up and have a good time with live music and free wine

Room was great, good block sizes. Best thing is the bar, sells burgers and the cheapest because! Have fun!
