I am in the nicer, refurbished area of castle Leazes, and, despite it being very small and tiny, I really enjoy living there's it is very social and a nice little student hub to be around others.

If you're looking for a lively environment, an ideal on campus location and the convenience of catered food, Castle Leazes is definitely the accommodation for you! It's grim appearance doesn't do it justice as it's honestly not that bad. The food isn't great but the buzzing atmosphere more than makes up for it.

5 stars for location, very close to the town centre which is so useful. 1 star for the rooms (truly horrible, haven't changed since my mum and dad(!!!!) lived there however many years ago). 2 stars for the facilities, the bar is okay if you're a boy that likes football and if you like ping pong. 5 stars for social experience, you make such good friends and bond over the grossness.

Lucky enough to live with some fab people but can see why people would hate it, especially in the large blocks, could make you feel really isolated. Also attracts some of the worst type of people ever, with no regard for others or members of staff, never been so shocked certain behaviours. My room was nicer than most but the flat had no social space apart from a kitchen with 3 chairs - there were 10 of us living there. The showers and toilets were also fine and the cleaners were nice enough, personal experience was good but can completely understand the awful reputation of this halls, it really does have a "type".

Castle Leazes is very socialable and there's always people around. However it can get very loud at night and the walls are paper thin. The rooms aren't too nice inside but are relatively spacious which is good. The kitchen area is tiny however and a communal area for each floor is needed. The facilities are clean but old. The location is perfect.

Has a good social life and I like the fact it is a halls. However the food is not tasty. Meat free Monday is really quite gross and means people make their own meals on Monday evening. Also breakfast should go on till longer for late risers. Lacks a common room which makes it awkward to socialise.

The halls are very sociable, however the groups can be very clique-y, and it can be quite stressful constantly hearing people outside. The catered side is a plus and the food isn't too bad - breakfasts were my favourite.

A very social hall to be in with the opportunity to be either catered or self catered. The room I had was very small (single bed, desk, sink) on a 12 person floor which was often very noisy. On site there was a laundrette and a little shop to get the basics.

Very antisocial, encourages smoking and awful food with tiny portions. Felt very isolated. Very close to dental school but no shop in the halls.

Location is IDEAL, especially if you're doing a science or medicine! Its also super close to campus as well as the gym and only a 10 minute walk into town. These halls are pretty old so prepare yourself for some pretty grimy rooms, but the food is alright and the social life cant be beat. Leazes is iconic.

Decent location for the accomodation although some of structures could be improved. Some of the halls in castle leazes are more modern compared to others so experience depends on where I end up. I’m not in one of modern ones but I like the place although it could be better but it’s close to campus sp ot helps in the morning

It’s the perfect hall for if you want to be in a very loud, social area, but this becomes a negative aspect when you’re trying to work and you want some peace, because you won’t get any. It’s very close to the medical school, which is a plus, but a 15 minutes walk from be main campus. The buildings themselves are very old and unpleasant, the kitchens lack facilities, and it’s not the nicest place to live. Also, the fire alarms go off at least once a week, usually in the middle of the night.

Location is mega, rooms are decent. Kitchen is shit toilets are shit, the resident staff are pretty horrible always looking for an excuse to confiscate anything and charge you. The social aspect completely throws all of the bad points though because it’s so good

Good location for university, especially the med school. Great social life but would rather all floors had communal areas. Could also have a shop on the premesis to improve.

The kitchen is far too small for 17 people and has no windows, it's boiling and smells all the time. The social experience is good

Catered food is great at 5 o’clock but is not very nice at 7 o’clock. Acoomodation toiltets ( the ones in the flat) are badly designed with a toilet roll that isn’t refilled taking up space where a small shelf could be installed. Other than these things it is pretty good but reception staff are not very friendly.

I am currently staying in castle court with is part of castle Leazes. Castle court has been recently refurbished and is definitely the one of the nicer blocks. The communal area isn’t that big which means the flat doesn’t really spend much time in there. It does however have the option of catered food which I think is really nice and well worth the extra money. The staff at castle Leazes are all really nice and are very helpful

Castle leazes is a great location for the university, especially the medical and dental school, it’s perfect for freshers and meeting new people as everyone’s close together. Catered food is okay but veggie Monday’s always disappointing.
