Oak House

Before I came to uni I had only ever heard bad things about Oak House. I’d seen many other uni’s accommodation in other cities which were really modern etc, which is very different to oak house. You definitely pay for what you get. The rooms are small and are a horrible colour of green with green and orange tartan curtains. It is extremely bare but you can add whatever you want to the walls to make it more homely (which I definitely needed to do). The kitchens are not as bad as everyone describes them as being. They are big and spacious with a table to sit at (not enough chairs for everyone though!!), and had all the equipment in them you could possibly need. There is only one fridge between 8 people which is really difficult and only 1 sink and 1 stove, but I suppose that’s why you pay so little. The best part about Oak House is definitely the social aspect. It’s right in the centre of the accommodation campus and right next to the university bar which means there’s always something to do. Particularly in freshers this was really useful as it made it a lot easier to make friends as there is always something going on in Oak House. It’s definitely not the place you want to go to if you can’t deal with noise as it is always noisy but all of my friends in different accommodations said they wish they had lived in Oak House for the social aspect and the monetary aspect.

initially everybody thinks oak house resembles a prison. whilst this stands true throughout the duration of the year, there are many perks. our cleaner brenda was fantastic and never missed a spot and the social life is very... social.

Best in Manchester for social experience, pretty worse for wear but that's part of the fun. Good location, easy to get into uni.

Oak house is very sociable and lively, however, the rooms are often very small. The kitchen is practical and the showers are decent. As my flat is directly next to the student bar Squirrels it can sometimes get noisy but it's never an unbearable amount of noise. Overall it is cheap and cheerful student accommodation.

The accomodation is old and feels abit like a prison, but if you want the proper uni experience than you have to stay in fallowfield, if you have trouble sleeping, avoid oak house as the windows are thin and you can hear loud music every night

The halls were overall just what any student needs. It is in the centre of the fallowfield student accommodation campus and surrounded by vibrant nightlife. However the halls themselves need a serious revamp as they are all severely outdated.

I like how social oak house is, and how you get to meet lots of people. However the colours on the wall are quite bland. Although I do love how close oak house is together so just meeting new people is easy.

The halls are in a good location as fallowfield is in the social hub. The actual facilities in the halls are not of the best quality and it doesn’t provide the most comfortable living experience. However, the halls are very sociable in terms of the people it attracts and so the lack of top quality living conditions is a small price to pay for a fun, sociable first year at uni.

Like every student accommodation, Oak House is over priced. Even though it is the cheapest option, sharing a kitchen with 7 other people and a tiny laundry place with probably hundreds gets really annoying. So is the long distances to the university, especially if you study in North campus. The rooms are quite nice and provide enough space, at least for me. A computer cluster is pretty close by and open throughout the night so it's pretty good to study. There's a Tesco Express and a large Sainsburys really close by. Squirrels bar is always busy but it's a cosy place. Overall it's pretty good but I wouldn't recommend it due to the distance from the campus, especially if you walk or cycle to class.

The cheapest halls, so you get what you pay for but very social and block living is great to meet people - a bus ride from uni, so if you want to be nearer uni don’t go for these but most people live in his area after first year as it has a lot going for it

It’s in a good location and the facilities around are great! The heating however is hardly ever on, and the floors rooms bathroom and kitchens are very outdated and old. It doesn’t feel homely at all. It’s cheap but doesn’t help you feel comfortable when you’re in your first gear in uni and completely out of your comfort zone.

The halls were a bit run down. WiFi was not great. Roommates all took drugs. Good location for social and not far from uni when using the bus.

Hard to socialise with people from outside your flat as all segregated. No one from my block speak to anyone else so stuck with my flat. Location is good, close to everything. The facilities are very basic but get what you pay for. A sofa wouldn’t go to miss however, doesn’t feel homely.

Although it has a decidedly prison-esque feel to it, the social life is unmatched by any other Manchester hall of residence

Friendly place but the actual halls are outdated and quite depressing to look at + everything breaks all the time!

Good value for money. Very cheap halls, so you get what you pay for. It's not modern and super clean. Kitchen is a reasonable size. Very lively, if you're not up for going out quite a bit then you may not get on well here, as on the weekends especially you will undoubtedly hear music until the early hours of the morning.

The social experience of Oak House is the best you'll get in Manchester and FREE TISSUE ! Also you save more money for the sesh x Terrible WiFi

Oak house is good for social but the actual resources aren't great, half of the flats have single glazing in the room meaning that it is very cold and also the kitchens went very well provided for, without a toaster and also a lack of fridge or freezer space

The facilities meet all the basic needs and the regular cleaners are very convenient, however all the rooms vary in size and unfortunately I have the smallest one. Naturally for the lower cost the halls are quite ugly but I suppose you get what you pay for.

Oak House is good if you want to party but also get stuff done. Being situated near a computer cluster helps with the studying and being close to many shops, bars, clubs and restaurants helps with anything else. The only downfall of oak house is the decor, green is not a nice colour for walls and the prison look isn’t that appealing either.

Looks a bit like a prison and we don't think our fire alarm works, but has a great party atmosphere and everyone is really chill.

Oak house is in a great location, fallowfield is the centre of everything for students in Manchester. Underrated halls to be honest, does what it says on the tin. Kitchen is big enough for every need. The cheapest halls available and certainly worth the saving

Social experience is the best in Manchester, but facilities and the halls themselves are more lacklustre. Looks a bit like a prison, not enough fridge space, cookers are temperamental etc. Overall I am enjoying it though.

Although oak house has the prison vibe going on, it's the cheapest accommodation, and probably the most social. The rooms are small, but there's a bathroom on each floor, and the dining/living room is really spacious.
