John Phillips Hall is a post graduate only hall on campus for Loughborough University. It conveniently located at the heart of campus along with other halls in the Village Park, with access to Ashby Road via Cayley Gate, you will be reliant on taxis and kinchbus if you are not a fan of walking 20-25 minutes to the town. Pay per use launderette services are available off site within a 5 minute walk radius which is okay but for the premium rate at which the hall rooms are offered, something onsite would have been good. Fortnightly cleaning of rooms and weekly cleaning of communal areas are available but the overall quality of cleaning will be dependent on the cleaner (the first year I stayed here, she was efficient, the person in charge of my block this year, not so much) ample kitchen space is there with oven, hobs, fridge. Other utilities such as mop and bucket, ironbox and table, vacuum cleaner are provided too which is useful. The social experience will be dependent on yourself and the kind of flatmates you get. While the ensuite rooms with doors that close by itself gives the right amount of privacy, it is easy to get used to be satisfied with your own company and not socialise. However, there is a hall committee that organises events and activities regularly to make the hall life active. It may not be as vibrant as the undergrad hall life but for the nuances of being a mature student/postgraduate student, it is brilliantly balanced with a quiet atmosphere that can get lively when needed. Room built quality is fitting for the accomodation fee paid. It is a tight design as the free space available may not be sufficient for someone who wants to do exercises within the comforts of their own space. However there is ample furniture spaces such as the wardrobe, study space, shelves, etc. Wired and wireless internet is provided. However the wireless network has been a little patchy since the rennovation in 2017. The ensuite bathroom is alright but can be lil tight for large individuals. To conclude, the major takeaways are the housekeeping facilities and the location (too good if you are someone who likes to wake up a lol late and still make it on time to lectures) it is difficult not to have a satised uni experience while staying at JP however the distance to town and general size of rooms might put off some people. Really great for an international postgraduate experience.

The hall is located away front the main departments but closer to the library. It has decent en-suite rooms with kitchen facilities. However the common hall is shared with other halls and is not accessible after 12pm. The majority of the population is Chinese flowers by Indians and British. The hall rent is a bit on the higher side compared to other halls and the facilities that are provided there. John Phillips is great if you are looking For a quite, private life. Not much of socialising is encouraged here but if your willing to take the extra effort then it’s possible.overall it’s a decent hall with enough facilities to get you going for a year.
