Barnes Hall

Far too expensive for the quality - not even a toaster provided. The fridge/freezer doesn’t have enough room for all 8 students. The rooms have a lot of faults with them as well, one flat mate had a leak under his carpet. I had a leak from my ceiling. Neither of which were fixed first time round. The flat door also broke for 3 weeks so we couldn’t shut it - anyone could get it. The bed is really comfy though and the walls are really sound proof

During my first year at keele, I was in Barnes S block of shared flatscreen Keele. The carpet was a bit stained, the oven did not work all that well and there was no communal area except the whole Barnes common area. However, this year the individual flats do have a small communal are. Overall, it was pleasant, I met housemates who I am comfortable in and the accommodation was comfortable, we had a single bed and the room was large enough for a single person with a desk to do work on. Would recommend, not as great as new Barnes but for cheap accommodation it’s great.

Good location, close to the centre of campus. The building was old and there was a lot of holes in the walls where spiders would often get in, and the carpets were old and stained. kitchen was really spacious and I liked how the shower room was separate to the bathroom, but the bathroom did have a mouldy ceiling. Everyone in our flat got along really well and we had a great year, but everyone else in the building never spoke. Bedroom was big and had a nice desk.

Barnes Flats are not too bad for the price. The rooms this year are smaller and some of the staff doesn't do their jobs, like the cleaning staff. Also, the New Barnes was built last year but they didn't build more laundrettes so we all need to share and they get broken so easily or you cannot find an empty one. There has also been some problems with rats, mould, ants, people sneaking in other people's kitchen through the window, so that's great. And the accommodation team are well known for being unhelpful and rude.

The Barnes accommodation is super nice, and it's really cosy in some places with only four per flat in my block. There's only one toilet and shower between us but the kitchen is quite spacious for the three of us. There's a bar about five seconds from us, not a lively one but it's still a bar! The SU and sports centre are only a five minute walk away too, and the bus stop is at the top of our road

The kitchen was small, there was no table so we had to eat on the floor or in our rooms. The cleaning staff always did a terrible job. The carpet was worn out the walls were stained. But, the people i lived with were so much fun. We would all sit on the stairs and hang out. It made the whole experience okay

We have not had the best experience Jon my halls this year, we have very basic living quarters with the luxury of a semi decent en-suite at the cheap price of £6,400 and this is not even the newest building offered yet they are charging more than the better accommodation

Aesthetics were not an important part for me as I was more focused on location and size. Living in Barnes block T was perfect for me as I only shared with 3 guys instead of the scary thought of 32 sharing a floor and showers kitchens etc. I personally loved the isolation of the place a single IT really allowed my brain to just think. Not pretty but perfect for uni. Also I was a max 5min walk from any and all my lectures which was a massive plus, this is not an exaggeration and if anything 5 mins is longer than I ever took haha, I woke up at 9 and made it on time to my 9's

Barnes Hall was a nice place to live. Having my own bathroom was convenient and the room being a reasonable size. Sharing with 6 people was a nice amount. Although, was rather expensive.

Rooms were perfect size and so was kitchen. Ensuite were good. Problem was flatmates as we didnt get along but i did like the room to much to leave.

Living in A was a little small, especially with fridge size, but I loved my bedroom which I found spacious

The room was big and the ensuite was a good choice. However the room itself was so gray and dull, really needs renovating. The walls are also very thin so you can hear all conversations and banging from the floor above. Kitchen was a typical student kitchen, no complaints. The location was perfect, 5 minutes walk to the student union/library/ sports halls, could get to lectures very quickly. Barnes bar was located right outside the block I stayed in but I never knew when it would be open. I only visited once on freshers and then whenever I tried going again it was always closed so I had no idea when they opened but that didn’t matter much. There wasn’t a overly friendly vibe in the flat. Everyone kept themselves to themselves but were all polite and I got along with everyone so it was a nice easygoing year with no issues with anyone. The rent was way too high, really think that it could be reconsidered as the rooms was horrible and felt more like a hostel.

Upon visiting the university applicant day and having a tour of Barnes hall, I was pleseantly surprised as there is plenty of space and is clean.

It’s very clean and easy to access all the amenities in the surrounding areAs. However the car park is always overflowing and there was a leak in the floor between my room and the room below of which I don’t believe has been fixed yet.

Overall, the New Barnes accommodation is located a few minutes walk from main campus. Its spacious rooms offer much comfort, although for the price paid, the showers need an actual door and the WiFi should be faster.

Horrible old building that needs serious work. No table to sit at or sofa area. Kitchen tiny to be shared by 15 as is two showers. Only good thing is the people!!!

The halls of residence are very overpriced for the garbage that we have to live in. The things in rooms are shabby and broken (like the bathroom fan) and they make us pay £5k-£6k a year for absolute mockery

I love my little flat in Barnes the only problem I have is with the kitchen being so crowded and messy

I live in the New Barnes accommodation and it is brilliant - there are a few snags though. The kitchen hobs heat up too slowly and never cool down, the doors are a little stiff and the showers can be cold but in total the place is really good. Placed well - close to campus and Barnes Bar but far enough away from campus that campus noise doesn't affect the buildings. Close to a bus stop into Newcastle town centre, and there is a post box near by. Smoker friendly and has conveniently placed smoking bins on the door entrances.

Really nice, clean rooms, clean bathrooms. Cleaners are very kind and hard working. Location is a bit in the middle of nowhere however the on site club is very good as is the on site pub. One club locally.

Block D. Clothes went mouldy in first month, radiator constantly needs bleeding - cold, always have a build of condensation. Tap in bedroom Kitchen is tiny with 2 fridges and freezers between 14. Showers cleaned once a week - can get very dirty. Sanitary bins always overflowing. Layout makes very difficult to socialise
