Honestly just don't stay at the lawns, it may look nice on the surface and the free bus pass may entice you and I thought the same thing but believe me it's just not worth it. I'm currently paying £150+ a week on an en suite room which has had constant problems with things such as heating and shower, a lot of the appliances in the kitchen barely work to the point where I had to buy an air fryer just to be able to eat. I also got the meal card for an extra £20 a week. And it's fine, I personally don't like many of the meals they provide but the ones I do are very nice and you can use it on campus. The only issue I have with it is if you use the full amount given (£2.85) on campus every day of the week that will still be less than the £20 you pay so it works out cheaper to not get the card. All in all its not the worst place in the world but for £150+ a week you should get things that aren't around 20 years old. Especially since there are new accomodation blocks on campus with brand new everything for cheaper. Or you also have the option of 3rd party accomodation places which can be found near the uni for even cheaper accomodation for the quality given

The location is rather far away from the university and city centre therefore having to get a constant 40 minute bus. When I first arrived at the lawns there was dirty used towels on my bed and sink left over from the previous resident. There is also a silverfish infestation which I have repeatedly reported and nothing has been done about it. The lock on the toilets are also broken.

The location is quite far with unreliable transport, not ideal for nights out and doesn't have a very sociable layout. Blocks are quite isolated but overall accommodation has good facilities.

The Lawns is an very nice place to live in the first year of university. The food is quite hit or miss but is always quite tasty so thefore the evening meal is very helpful espically after a long day at uni.

Bit far away from campus but the bus pass makes it accessible. Really enjoyed living at the lawns it is very social and there is always something going on.

The accommodation isn't the nicest, the rooms are dark and dingy and essentially quite depressing. There aren't really any social areas within the flat buildings, like there is in Courtyard for example, which means many people (particularly in my block) never seem to leave their room. It is quite the opposite of social and therefore it is very difficult to make any friends which just makes you feel lonely in the place you're supposed to live for 48 weeks. I also believe it is ridiculously overpriced for what you actually get, I am paying £101 a week for a tiny room with minimal working wifi. I can't even say other bills factoring in make up the amount because nothing ever seems to work effectively. Overall it's just bad student accommodation.

The social experience of the lawns is incredible, I’ve made a lot of friends from not just my block, but numerous blocks. The rooms aren’t the most pleasing to look at but spacious and can hold many people at one time. Had a brilliant time this year.

Location was okay but meant that all activities such as nightlife of shops were a bus ride away. The facilities were good but the food wasn’t worth the cost. The rooms were okay, but varied massively in size but for the same price. The whole place is outdated and needs some sprucing up. Social experience was good because having a communal kitchen for each floor within a voice meant that close friendships could be made easily during study and cooking. Which from what I have heard is better than other Accomodation such as Thwait Hall

Great social environment, really fun experience living with so many people. The bus pass was a plus, used it a lot. Can be very noisy and getting the bus is a pain.

The Lawns is situated in the small village of Cottingham; filled with all the essential shops, cafes, a train station and frequent bus connections to Uni and Hull City center. The site albeit dated has a modern reception building called the Lawns centre where there's a bar, cafetería and laundry facilities available. The rooms are old and definitely in need of a modernisation but are enough for most students. Internet connection is fast and fairly consistent in uptime. In social terms, most blocks got to know each other pretty quickly and well and almost all flat mates are super sociable while also respectful during exam times etc.

The lawns defined the experience in first year as a freshers. A student village 3 miles away from university in cottingham, where 27 people share a block which is open up. Means that a large social group is created and plenty of people to find to mingle with.

The lawns: Location: 5/5 Being from a village myself, I absolutely loved living in Cottingham the first year. It's so homely, with good shops - Aldi, Fulton, Sainsburys, Co-op. It's got a bakery too and lots of charity shops if you like that kind of thing. Every Thursday morning there is a cute little market in the village square selling everything from cheese and fresh produce to makeup. The lawns itself is situated a 15-20 minute walk outside the centre of cottingham, on an amazing huge plot of land with a gorgeous grass "lawn" - mainly open but framed by a few trees. Beautiful to sit out in summer. Some of the halls also have partially enclosed grass areas which are like little gardens. Social experience: 4/5 If you're a loud person it is easy to make friends and I'd say it's not too difficult if you're quiet too. Living in a quiet flat, I saw enough of the people without it being too much. I also met one of my best friends! Social areas: 2/5 The lawns centre is advertised as the social centre of the lawns, although if you actually lived there you'd know that that doesn't happen! The only place really that is used is the rooftop bar which is nice but if you live in further away halls then the only real socialising spot is the kitchens. They are a good size but have no "comfortable" aspects ie sofa/beanbag/comfy chairs. This is why they have such a low rating. My room: 4/5 It did the job. The thing I'll miss the most is the balcony and the huge sliding door! The view out of my room was a really nice bonus. The room obviously did the job with a bed chair desk wardrobe and cabinet, bathroom had shower sink and toilet. The room was slim and long, the toilet the same. The balcony sliding window took up the whole end wall (which was nice). I'd definitely recommend taking a thick mattress topper for the bed the mattresses are a little floppy. Value for money: 5/5 Cheap for the fact it had a loo and was nicely located/came with free bus pass. Internet: 4/5 Other people had problems with it but in my room it was good, I worked my tv, phone, computer, iPod etc off it. Was very easy as well. Just set up an account and use. Can add a fair few devices so my parents and friends could log on when they came over.

Went half-catered. The food at the start was bad, but improved at the end. The rooms were inconsistently sized, people paid the same for a big room or small room. Buses ran frequently but night buses are needed. Nice surrounding area, very nice for summer. Balconies were a big plus, but not everyone got them. Felt safe living there. Not many social areas, just one bar, could do with more e.g common rooms with sofa. Varying internet connection

Location: too far from the university, the bus sometimes took half an hour to get from the lawns to uni which often made you late for lectures. Room: good size, en suite, cleaners came one a fortnight, overall very nice Social experience: overall good, lots of opportunities so socialise, but often people remained in the own cliques from their accommodation blocks so was difficult to integrate between different blocks. Summer time was good for bbqs and the lawns bar. Food: very good cafeteria and good quality food once a day.

The dorm rooms are definitely something I had to get used to. They seriously need to redesign, and upgrade. However, outside the room situation I enjoy my time at the Lawns. It is a great place to socialize, and the staff are super friendly.

Location is too far from the Uni, it discourages you from attending lectures. There are very limited facilities considering the amount being paid for the accommodation. However it is located in a very safe village, close to shops which is very useful. Although the people are very nice, the facilities do not allow easy process of socialising with flat mates. The kitchens are very uncomfortable so no body wants to sit there and socialise. Lastly, my room is not very appealing, although it's big, it is very ugly, I cannot see inside my wardrobe, there are insects crawling, my carpet is ugly, the curtain is ugly, the bed is springy, and it slides around. I wish I got to see how rubbish it was before I applied for it. The game room we are suppose to have is never even open. Is rubbish jor

Halls are in a nice location, not too far from the city or university. Would be better with a common room for students to be able to relax rather than just a kitchen

The food at the lawns is generally bad, as in smells funny and is undercooked except for brunch which is actually quite good. They should serve it more often. However the lawns bar is really comfortable and generally a nice atmosphere, with the help of Clare from behind the bar. Gym is convenient if a little small and very limited. But it's very social and I found it really easy to make lots of good friends. The bus journey is always a bitch when yiure in a rush.

Although outside of Hull and a trek to uni and to town, the lawns offered great social opportunities with 21 people sharing a block. The lack of social areas was a slight upset but the lawns centre contained a bar and some sports courts for when it was sunny. There was also a massive field (hence the name, the lawns) where you could have barbecues in Summer and provided a great view outside of windows

Really good location, really good atmosphere, the bar is good and the free bus pass is really good, enjoyed being here

Despite being several miles from the university, the bus network is fantastic and cottingham is a lovely vibrant village. The rooms are a little dated but that doesn't make much difference as they are seriously cheap. For those that go semi-catered, the food served in the canteen is good. Not quite home food but good enough.

Its really good. I really enjoy it there, the wifi is really good and the rooms are spacious and clean, the bathrooms are good too

Overall the housing is good. Not 5* but not the worst by far. The bus is free which makes getting to uni and around the city easy and stress free. The food is good most of the time...

The halls itself was very old and quite far from uni and nightlife, but we got a free bus pass which was obviously very helpful and cheap. The Lawns has sports areas, a cheap bar, food facilities and a big field to sit on during the summer months making the social aspect of the lawns far better than any other halls in hull.
