The rooms are a good size and well furnished with en suit bathrooms, and they are cleaned once a week. The food is really good and there are lots of different options. Dinner is served from 17:30 until 19:15 which is a little early, especially if you have commitments at this time however in such circumstances replacement meals can be arranged.

Birks grange townhouses are a cosy environment and a large enough number that you will find some people to get on with out of the 12. The house layout creates a family feel with a sociable area downstairs yet privacy on separate floors for your own space. I liked being self catered and the large kitchen open plan space makes cooking and meal times a sociable opportunity.

Townhouse accommodation living spaces are huge compared to other halls, only negative is the trek up the hill to central campus.

Self catered halls - I was in the new build of self catered so everything was nice - the catered accommodated for birks is old and brick walls. Good location - 15 min walk to town. On campus - 5 min walk to the forum. There is the big hill you have to walk up - cardiac arrest. I would’ve stayed in la frowda new block if I could go back as more sociable

Really well located. Only issue is the hill, so called ‘cardiac hill’ due to its steepness, up to campus. Actual accommodation is well priced and modern. Nothing more needed. The kitchen is amazing and the rooms are spacious with a large wardrombe, pin boards and an extra long bed. WiFi is a bit slow occasionally. Especially at peak times.

Birks Grange Village has a poor location, being far from city centre and being at the bottom of cardiac hill. Yet what it makes up for is the social space it offers - free pool and snooker, a room with board games and beanie cushions and a living room with a TV. The rooms are a good size and comfortable.

No common room or social area for birks grange self catered. Quite far away from shops and birks grange shop is too overpriced. Wifi isn't great.

Very new buildings with great facilities and a nearby reception. The only negative thing I’d say is the massive hill that you need to walk up to get to lectures.

Great accommodation, really nice en-suit rooms and perfect location on campus. Only problem is the hills, but you get used to them

Fantastic Halls, with great rooms. Beds a little small in the single bed rooms, but a great ensuite and the best desk you could dream of.

Lived in Birks self catered. I personally loved it, bedroom, ensuite and kitchen really nice! 8 is a good number of people per flat. Relatively social halls. Main downside is location as going up cardiac hill every day is a struggle

Very close to shop and laundry, very nice accomodation. Only problem is that laundry only takes coins.

The location was generally really good for university but was quite far from town so I would recommend getting food deliveries to avoid carrying a lot of food back. Living in self catered, the social experience was nice in that all the flatmates got together and ate together in the kitchen etc and I didn’t use the communal social spaces much so couldn’t comment. My room was ensuite and very well equipped, warm and comfortable with a large desk and plenty of storage space.

Location: very good. 10 minutes walk to campus, although it is an uphill walk. Facilities: Kitchen is large, although I find there is not enough cupboard space for food and lots and pans. The cleaners refuse to clean our kitchen unless we clean before them, which is ridiculous. There is usually 2 events in halls every term. Could be more, but it is a nice sentiment. Social experience: within my flat has been good, I don’t really know anyone else in my block though. My room is spacious. I can just about practise handstands and stretch in it. My ensuite is a wet room, everyone I’ve spoken to does not like this, but despite that, it is a nice bathroom. Internet provided by studentcom is very slow and I often have to disconnect and connect again. Service in my room is non existent, I cannot receive calls in my room, and when I make them, I can barely discern what is being said on the other end of the line.

Birks Grange(catered) was a really social hall and I loved every minute that I was there for! The meal options varied from week to week so I always looked forward to dinner. Although it was an expensive hall, I feel like I got a lot for my money as I was ensuite and catered. The biggest negative is walking up cardiac hill each morning to get to campus but you do get used to it after a week or two.

I lucked out with one of the disabled rooms, so I had a great very large room with a comfy bed and a fabulous ensuite. The cleaners did a great job and the food was also good. My only criticism is the lack of a common room for the catered halls...it became pretty lonely not having anywhere to hang out with friends and we often resorted to pre drinks sitting in the corridor which was not ideal.

We have to climb a bit of a hill to get up to campus (it’s called ‘cardiac’ for a reason)- but at least it wakes you up. It has quite a nice community feel- you have your own space and the rooms are well equipped. I’m lucky enough to have a great view. Catered food is actually really good- lots of variety and a lot of it. Would perhaps like a better communal space for us in catered accommodation though (we have to make do with a corridor). The number of times the fire alarm goes off is also getting a bit ridiculous. My WiFi is also a bit temperamental- means my printer also has issues. But on the plus side, campus security was really good when I lost my keys.

Great accommodation with brilliant common areas, bedrooms and bathrooms. There’s also a small shop for all the essentials.

I stayed in Burks Grange catered block B for my first year at Exeter and had a great time. The room itself was a little dated but in good condition and was clean and had a new mattress. Having an en-suite was really nice too. The food was better than I expected for uni halls, there was something I liked every night and a few times a week there would be something really good that we all looked forward to. The deserts were the highlight of the experience though, always top notch. Both breakfast and dinner had a great social and friendly atmosphere. I got on really well with my entire floor and we are all still friends and see eachother regularly in 3rd year. I know most flats in Burks were friendly and there was a great social atmosphere accross the board. Another great bonus was the table tennis table in the piazza , which me and my friends loved playing after dinner in the summer. If I had one gripe with being catered in Burks Grange it would be the lack of a decent size kitchen and communal area near our rooms. There was just a small utility room with sink and microwave in our corridor and the main communal room for the entire complex in the main reception which we never used. Burks is one of the further accomodations from the centre of campus at 10-15 minutes walk, depending how fast you take the hill which for some was a show-stopper but I found it great for staying in shape Overall I had a great time at Burks Grange and woildn't want to be anywhere else if I did it all again!

Birks Grange Townhouse: Accommodation was, in general, excellent. Only downside is the very steep hill up to campus but you eventually get used to it and it's probably great exercise too. Additionally, it's only a single bed rather than a double. However, there's TONS of storage space and overall the townhouse is excellent value for money because you're not paying extra for an ensuite room but you only have to share your bathroom with one other person. The social area was huge, because there are 12 of you, so it never ends up feeling cramped. Also, the townhouses tended to be incredibly sociable; knew almost everybody in the block.

If you choose the catering option, a great continential breakfast is served every morning. Dinner is fairly good and staff are friendly some being students. Good service overall.

Excellent halls, and the hill will certainly keep you in shape! Little bit further from town, but it's a pretty nice walk in- and you can always cycle. Very near to Reed Hall gardens, St David's station, and a riverside path to the Quay. Was in self-catered, which are very modern looking buildings with flats of about 8. 2 ovens / hobs / fridge-freezers / sinks as standard, plus kitchen table and sofas- but not necessarily the best social space. Only thing which put a downer on the experience was the people- be prepared for the possibility of difficult / lazy flatmates and a noisy first term.

While Birks Grange Village is a little far from central campus, there is a well-stocked shop and a great student atmosphere and I really wnjoyed living there. It’s also right by subway

In first year I was in Birks Grange catered halls, and for the price I was paying it was good value: an en suite bathroom, mini fridge and impressive range of food at meal times. The only caveat was the walk to the forum, which entailed scaling ‘Cardiac Hill’, possibly the steepest topographical feature in the South West.
