Singer Hall

Good for social life, friendly staff. Security are annoying and make us leave at 11pm. Cleaners are good and clean the toilets and kitchen once a week. Room sizes are good but don’t like the single beds and wish they where double. Having bars on the windows isn’t nice either because I’m on the ground floor

Place is well located, around 5-10 minutes' walk from main university campus. It is situated near Hillsfields area which isn't the best or most peaceful. Staff are friendly however the common room in the reception building could be a lot better, have better facilities and more staff.

Location for university is great. Local area is unpleasant. Security are invasive and noise is largely prohibited. Not cheap considering quality and design. Bars on downstairs windows.

Room is quite big and stays pretty warm. Communal bathroom isn't a big problem. Never had to wait for someone to come out (except for those 9am lectures). Kitchen is okayish but dining area needs improvement, consists of 1.5 tables. Yes you read that right. Facilities are decent, but communal rooms are lacking. Singer Hall cat is nice and friendly and very lazy.

Overall it's decent for being the cheapest halls at Cov uni. Lack in social rooms other than the ones at the reception. Love the local Singer Hall cat, very playful and lazy. You tend to see a lot of people going in and out for lectures or nights out. Parties can be heard in kitchen if you walk by. Kitchen is okayish but the dining area needs major improvement, I just eat in my room.

Singer Hall is located very close to the university. Especially for me, it was a mere 10-12 minutes of walking to the engineering building, but is also closer to the other buildings. The flats are very well designed and I would say are better than the conventional halls with multiple rooms on the same floor while here there were only 6. The common area was well equipped with a TV, pool table , table tennis, air hockey and an arcade machine. The laundry was very convenient.

Best year at singer ! Although security can be strict on flat parties it all evens it out. Very sociable place to spend first year.

Room is large for the money you pay. Good for yoyr money if you do noy mind having a shared bathroom. The washing machine are expenisve and there are a small quantity of them. However it is open every hour of the week so you can do it at any time. Close to the centre.

Singer Hall is the cheapest amongst uni halls, but still is expensive compared to other universities. It’s fairly close to the uni, around 10 mins walk to different buildings. Good thing about Singer is that it’s like an estate rather than block of flats. That means that there’s less surveillance from the security and means you can have friends overnight with no problems or have loud and late pre drinks in the kitchen. The general experience really depends on your flat mates. It could be either fun and chill or annoying. Flats are pretty old (standard ones, not superior) though they have everything that’s needed, apart from toilets that are shared outside the rooms. Everything is shared between 6 people and usually there’s no problem with that. There are 3 bathrooms: 1 toilet, 1 toilet + bath, shower. There’s cleaning once a week and trash removing every day. Generally everything works smoothly and it can be a really great year in halls if you feel the same vibes with your flat mates.

Good place, but too expensive for what it is. Its only a good place if you're lucky with your flatmates. It old and the kitchens are small. No communal area to chill

The facilities and social aspects of these halls are great. The area it is in isn’t the nicest and most safe, however is close to the university so easily accessible. I really enjoyed my time here as everyone is so social and it feels like a little village with everyone you know just next door or round the corner.

It's rubbish but you make amazing friends over having broken windows and burning smells coming up from downstairs.

Singer Hall was fine for the price. The room sizes were big even though the actual accommodation is quite small. The kitchens were maybe too small and there is a lack of social space.

The location was convenient in that it was still in the city centre but far enough away to not be right in the hustle and bustle. The facilities were okay although the cooking equipment lacked a little. The shower blocked up easily. The rooms were a great size, plenty of space. Wish there was more of a communal space.

The location works quite well for most residents as it is pretty close to a lot of Uni buildings. The halls are quite well designed, with the individual flat system in separated blocks rather than a single hall. Quality-wise, the halls might need some renovation as a lot of flats look really old. One thing that’s a minus is an ensuite room. Sharing is not a problem if you have tidy and hygienic flatmates but waking up in the middle of the night, carrying your key (as you dont wanna get locked out at 2 am) to go to the bathroom is a hassle. Another minus is that the social space with the TV and the pool table and the arcade machine, is open until 5 pm only, which makes it a bad experience for those who have classes until 4 or maybe until 6 some days. When we actually need is at night which is when it is closed.

There is no social area in the flats for students and most people hate this because it’s hard to chill out with your flat. The facilities are not very good in the flats and things seem to keep breaking. There has been an infestation of silver fish which is appalling

It's a small village full of over 40 blocks of flats, the conditions are very well and everyone is very friendly. It's probably the most social halls at the university so if you want to have a good social experience at university singers halls would be a great place for you.

Rooms are a pretty good size with a double bed, a large built in desk and tonnes of storage, as well as your own sink for you to keep all your personals at. Windows are incredibly thin though and let in a lot of noise and cold drafts, and my windows came with roller blinds that at least half of my flatmates, myself included, have had fall from their supports. There's also no curtain rail so a lot of light seeps in through the gaps between the blinds and the wall. The radiators are also iffy. Whilst they are due to come on at a set time, they really aren't all that powerful, even with the dial set to max, and their small size do very little to heat up the room. The kitchen size is very narrow, and can't hold all six of us when we try to eat or cook dinner together. The social room that we have in the Reception to try and combat this is no better as it is just about the same lenth as the kitchen, and not much wider. The toilets and showers we have never had a problem with. There is two of each split between the six of us and we've never had trouble with having to wait on someone finishing up before we can freshen up. The showers are absoloutely gorgeous, though some shelving would be highly appreciated in the wet rooms for all our bottles. The location is fantastic with it being right on the edge of campus and town, so you're only a five to ten minute walk away from anything, and there are plenty of cheap shops and food huts around for students to save money with. The internet is absolutely amazing with its high upload and doanload speed. However, there is a shortage of connection when you're in the kitchen, and there are times when the internet does suddenly go down without explanation for up to half an hour at a time.

I lived in Singer in my first year and I loved it. My room was really big and had ample storage, there were two bathrooms and a good size kitchen. I was lucky and had really good flatmates, however I did know some people who didn’t enjoy their experience because of their flatmates. However this is just luck of the draw. The only negative of singer is the location, as it is situated in one of the most dangerous parts of the city. In my second year I moved across town to a nice area which made me realise how dangerous singer was, especially for freshers. If you can I’d recommend choosing another halls, but my first year at university was the best time of my life and I don’t regret it at all, and living in singer was part of this.

Living here was very convenient to get to uni, however to get to the city centre was quite long. The rooms themselves were decently sized and had enough space. Overall my loving experience there was really good. No complaints except... there needs to be a way to not get locked out of your room so often.

Not worth the money, the people are not very sociable. The area feels dangerous and I do not go out late at night

Decent sized bedrooms, two bathrooms, additional separate toilet room, equal ration of m/f flat mates, halls short walking distance to uni, communal cleaner once a week and halls extremely close to Kasbah!
