Chester is one of the oldest remaining Roaman empire cities left in the UK. Contained within it’s still-standing fort wall from the days of c.70AD, is a large range of modern and bustling shops, bars and restaurants, including a small indoor shopping centre. One of Chester’s most famous POI’s is its racecourse, which still sees a wide attraction of parties from across the country gather each summer to see horses race alongside the River Dee. A £2 Park and Ride service operates regularly to keep Chester city centre well connected with outer-lying towns and those who choose to drive in from further afield.

There are a wide variety of shops and places to eat in Chester, including affordable places for students such as myself. The architecture of the old black and white Tudor buildings provide a historic touch at the root of a modern functioning busy town, a personal favourite for me and my brother who enjoy amateur photography In our spare time. Chester can be counted on for a friendly and enjoyable day out!

Best city in the world, I've been all over but would never even consider anywhere but chester as my home. Shopping is great there's plenty of big name brands and cheaper road store brands. Eating out in great Pepper street is the best place to go for food there's so many different t restaurants the variety is amazing. Roasies, cruise and off the wall are the 3 best places to go for clubbing and/or cheap drinks.

Chester is such a pretty place to visit, make sure to walk the walls (around 40 minutes) to pass by the clock and canals. Have a day trip to the zoo which is worth the visit!

A quiet and scenic town, Chester is a central location, everything within walking distance from the uni to city centre. Great independent cafes and Liverpool is close by for good food, night life and socialising. Everything closes quite early, with a low crime rate, Chester is one of the safest places to study.

Historic city with a nice quiet atmosphere. Nightlife alright but more pubs and bars than clubs. Easy enough to get to bigger cities.

Really great city for students as everything is within a walking distance! Loads to do in Chester with plenty of events on and festivals nearby. It's definitely a student city and there's lots of very good offers on around the city throughout the year!

Lovely city with plenty to do and not too expensive. Lots of heritage, although not very big city- there's lots of restaurants and bars for a decent enough nightlife. Bus and rail links are good, easy to get to liverpool or manchester if you want more.

Love the location of my uni! Small but busy city with everything I need within a 20 minute walk from halls including pubs and clubs. Plenty of choice for a good night out and great prices in most. Easy to get around and very pretty and clean city too!

Can’t comment on the nights out aspect, as that’s not really my thing, but the location of the campus itself is really good! It’s outside of the actual town centre but not too far away that it’s not an age to get there. Good bus links, and there’s a few Starbucks and Costas on campus so you’re never really stuck

Although my campus isn’t directly in the city centre it’s stull perfect as it’s within walking distance.

Chester is a city so has all the good things a city does - plenty of shops (high street and top end) as well as plenty of places to eat and drink - but it is the size of a big town so everything is here that you need but it's all in walking distance! The University and all of the possible accommodation remains in walking distance to the uni and also to the city centre and there is only a short, cheap bus ride to Chester Zoo and Cheshire Oaks!!

As a country girl, the thought of moving to a big bustling city for university did worry me a little, but upon arriving at Chester I realised my anxiety was completely unwarranted. Chester is a small city with a lot of character, famous for its Roman wall that circles the city, it's packed to the brim with history. You can get a tour of the city from a Roman Centurion, or go exploring yourself, I highly recommend walking along the wall, it offers excellent views. There is also a beautiful cathedral that's worth a visit, as well as the remains of a Roman Coloseum but if history isn't your thing, there are many other attractions like a falconry, two-level streets with a wide range of shops, from New Look to Penhaligons. It also has a wonderful range of tea shops, cafes and restaurants, including a tapas bar, a French restaurant with a gorgeous vegetarian dish, and a cafe that sells plants too. Chester is best at Christmas though, when the street lights go up, the Christmas market arrives and the ice rink opens. The night life is good too, with a few popular clubs and bars, and because it's a small city that's not too busy it feels safe at night to go out with friends. The uni is only 10 mins from the main city centre, and so glad I chose Chester.

The city centre is a five minute walk if that to the town centre where there is a huge range of shops from superdrug boots, b&m, McDonald's, all popular clothes shops such as new look, next and primark!! There are so many things.to do including a park where squrrials are so domesticated and you can feed them and they aren't scary! It's a 15/20 minute walk to the train station so it's easy to explore any nearby cities, and even the Chester city wall which will take you around the whole city
