Chelmsford City

Chelmsford is a lovely city with a Uni and a College, that gives you a Safe feeling. The main reason I decided to live here instead of London was that it’s basically cheaper. As long as you live close to city centre (I live next to the train station) you can walk anywhere and you don’t have to use public transportation all the time. The best part is that you only take about half an hour to get into London, it’s a really good solution for people working in London. My Flatmate commutes to London for work daily and she’s really happy with it. There are busses specifically for going to Stansted airport which only takes 35 Minutes and costs £10 for one way and £15 for return. With the same bus it’s possible to travel to Southend. Shopping in Chelmsford is really nice, the high street is lovely and offers a wide range of shops. There are 2 shopping centres on the high street and a few retail parks around the city. Eating out in the city isn’t a problem either because there are so many different options to go. On Bond Street, which is right next to the High Street, are many different restaurants and offers a lot for any taste. But also around the city there are different options from pizza to kebab, from Asian to Italian to Turkish. For nights out there are also some nice options as there are 2 very nice and we’ll known pubs in the city Centre. The Golden Fleece is a very lovely one with a Beer Garden in the Backyard. They serve nice food and great drinks. Another popular one is The ship public house which also offers accommodation for a reasonable price. All in all it’s definitely a nice city to live in with the possibility to travel into London quickly (or anywhere in Essex). It’s a safe area with a lot of shopping opportunities and some for going out.

There's plenty of incredible options of bars/clubs and restaurants. However, the Wetherspoons could be a bit bigger! Nights out can be fairly expensive though!

The town centre is very close with lots of variety for shops and supermarkets within walking distance or a short drive. There are a few nightclubs which are very expensive, bar and beyond is good on student night because it has cheaper drinks. There is a bowling alley within a 4 minute walk of the uni and a spar which is opposite the uni which is helpful when in the library for long hours at a time. There is a cheap bus service and a park and ride nearby at a reasonable price but parking in the city centre is very limited

I love living in Chelmsford and feel like I can write a balanced review considering I have lived here for over ten years and seen it's transformation from a small town into a recognised city and area for students at Anglia Ruskin University. It has all the shops you need for basics and anything else and I never have to travel out of the centre to get something. There's a few solid bars and clubs which get nice and busy on the weekend and student night which is a Wednesday, all these places have free entry before a certain time, discounted drinks before a certain time and past those hours drinks are still really cheap. The streets are nice and clean and stewards go round at night to help people in need. It's a safe place in my eyes and I've never felt uncomfortable or unsafe regardless of what time I'm there. I trust Chelmsford and enjoy living here :)

There are plenty of restaurants and bars that more than cater for the level of students in and round the city. There is a decent night life although could benefit from another high-profile club. Needs more student deals and discounts in town.

The city of Chelmsford has been the best location for my student life so far. It is compact and within walking distance of the university, making it super easy to access and navigate. The city has everything you could need from your favourite high street stores, plenty of supermarket options and lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. The city has reasonably priced bus and train links to all surrounding areas if you don't feel like walking. Be sure to visit a Bar & Beyond on a Wednesday night for a great student club night.

There's so much to do, shopping, dining out aswell as places like cinemas and bowling alleys and most are within walking distance from the university! It's a place with real charisma and the farmers market done on the weekend sells some amazing home baked goods.

Really good night-life scene, located right next to the main shopping centre. Many restaurants to choose from, as well as many shops. Shopping centre is located next to a river and a big Central Park. There is also an ice rink and cinema, so there are always plenty of things to do.

Plenty of shops and restaurants, a few parks too. Nights out are decent, not many bars but the ones here are okay. Cabs and such are expensive but public transport is easy and simple.

The location is great for my univeristy. Chelmsford city is the new place to land your university experience. With new shops and restaurants opening monthly the nightlife is becoming something special. You will not be disappointed!

The train station is in walking distance however cannot get direct trains from southend and have to change many times. Parking is awful nothing local so have to get a park and ride. Hardly any places to get food from at lunch: selection is poor. Prices for food and drink in the uni is a rip off. Shopping about a twenty minute walk away.

Chelmsford has everything I need in a city. Great shops, activities, a bit of nightlife and green spaces. I’ve loved studying here.

Totally recommend this town! Plenty of things that you are able to do in the town with ease. The high street offers so many shops and services.

There are ao many things you can do over here at Chelmsford. There are lots of places to go to for different purposes. You would rarely require to go elsewhere!

Not a great city for international students. Nothing exciting to do. If you have friends in Chelmsford, then it can be a good experience or it can be pretty depressing.

Good shopping choices, every restaurant and cuisine you could think of, lacking a decent nightclub but has a great bar and beyond, although slightly overpriced for a student. All in all a lovely place to live, with excellent transport connections

Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford is a perfect location for any uni student. There’s so much to do! With the town only a short 10 min walk from town students have access to an array of facilities whether it be restaurants, clothes shops, banks - the lot. And it doesn’t just stop there. Chelmsford has loads of great bars and clubs that offer discount prices for students or happy hours. Not feeling clubbing? Why not take a trip to the Everyman cinema or the Ice Skating rink if you’re feeling active.

I love my uni cause of its location. Its quiet, its relatively small, and theirs tons to do. There's bowling, loads of place to eat from, cinema, and of course the amount of transport to easily get to and from the uni.

In Chelmsford, in the town centre there’s plenty of choice for food choices and the restaurants are great value for money. In Chelmsford town there are two nightclubs both are brilliant for student nights out!! Transport is provided by the university to the sponcered nightclub on student nights. Location is good, shops for food are available. Transportation into the town centre is by bus and the bus stop is only 10 minute walk from the main campus. Chelmsford is an excellent place to study.

Newly renovated town centre, still some work to be done though. City centre is growing into more of a city now. Still needs work on more upstanding and less Student type clubs. Overall the city is a good location for shopping, dining and things to do like golf and Central Park having a skating area and basketball courts. Good for all ages just missing a city like feel to it in my opinion.
