The best part is the location - most of the uni is within a five minute walk. However otherwise it's not amazing .there aren't really flats, just a maze of corridors and a tiny student lounge.

The location is incredibly convenient for getting to the university, and regarding halls, it must be the best of its kind in that aspect. Thus it is disheartening to know that in a few years The Hawthorns will no longer be a hall. The facilities are very mediocre; the power goes out in my kitchen on a weekly basis, and the dryers in the laundrette have not been fixed for a long time. The student lounge is generally foul-smelling and considering this is an accommodation for 100 people, it doesn't nearly facilitate this number of people. The pastoral support team however, are great at their job and I know many of my fellow students are in contact with them.

My room is large with ensuit. Ensuit had leak for months and hasn't been fixed. Certain staff are very rude. Limited facilities and accomodation is put second to cafe and other student services in the building. The only good thing is location and being able to wake up 15 minutes before lecture.

I mainly chose this halls based on its proximity to the campus; it is basically situated only a couple minutes walk from most of the uni buildings which, for a first year in particular, is pretty ideal. However, the layout of the building is completely random and really quite weird and I wasn’t surprised to hear the place used to be a hotel. This fact also explains how some people seem to end up with tiny rooms and others with massive ones, despite paying the same fee.
