Put the past behind you and visualise the opportunities of the future with our latest blog from Fika.
The last few months have been pretty intense. Chaos caused by Covid-19, lockdowns and the exam results fiasco to name just a few of the major blows we’ve been dealt this year. If you’re still standing and still smiling after all of that, you’re doing pretty well. But what’s next? For a lot of you, university, sixth form or even the world of work beckons in just a few short weeks, and that can be daunting. So how can you embrace the new stage in your life and move forward with positivity?
Starting a new chapter isn’t as scary as it seems. In fact, studies show that 85-91% of things we worry about don’t turn out as badly as we expect. However, our worries can stop us from pushing out of our comfort zone which then has a knock-on effect on our confidence.
A powerful technique is to visualise doing something new before you do it - how does thinking about it make you feel? Picture having completed it successfully: what do you see? Create a clear picture of a positive outcome. What emotions do you think you might experience after completing it?
Try to let your worries go, and see the lighter side of life even during difficult times. Laughter is another great technique, it relaxes the body, boosts the immune system and strengthens relationships - so seek out friends and experiences that give you the feel-good factor.
You can also boost your confidence by reflecting on past experiences that went well, and carry that forward with you into your new chapter, giving you the confidence that you can do whatever it is you’ve set your mind on.
