There are many ways to find your zen place, not all of which involve dedicated meditation. Find your inner peace with Fika's latest blog.
We all know the importance of mindfulness. Not only is it great for mental health and wellbeing, studies have shown it can also help lower blood pressure, reduce pain and improve sleep. But how can you get the benefits of mindfulness if you’re not the meditation type?
Meditation doesn’t have to be all gongs, hippies and crossed legs, but taking some time out of your day to breathe and relax is really important for wellbeing. Mindfulness can also really help with focus; did you know, on average, our mind wanders 50% of the time?
Practising mindfulness for just 10 minutes a day is shown to improve focus and concentration, alongside a whole host of other benefits including reduced stress, improved memory, increased happiness and better resilience.
And it’s not difficult to try. It simply involves paying attention to your thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations or the surrounding environment. Each time your focus is lost, notice what took it, and then return your thoughts to the now.
Visualisations can be another really powerful way of slowing your mind and boosting your confidence in advance of a big event or new start. By thoroughly planning and preparing, visualising exactly what will happen, what might go wrong, and what you need to do to make it a success, you can greatly reduce anxiety and feel mentally prepared.
