Pushing your boundaries can be a great way of combatting stress. Find out why with this week's #WellnessWednesday edition, from Fika.
Fear is a natural biological response to unfamiliar situations, but there are many benefits associated with doing new things. If we get stuck in our comfort zone, it can slow our development, limit our creativity and make us more prone to stress.
Opening your mind and actively challenging a fixed mindset is a great way to increase positivity, reduce stress and have more diverse relationships.
Take some time to think about how you can be more open-minded; do you have any fixed behaviours or a mindset that is limiting your positivity? Reflect on the last new thing you did, how did it make you feel? It doesn’t have to be something big: perhaps you walked to work a different way, tried a new yoga class or spoke to someone new.
But how do you get out of your comfort zone? Here are some ideas:
- Just do it. The first step to doing something new is the hardest, so think of what you want to do or achieve and go for it.
- Say yes to everything (within reason!) Even if you don’t feel ready - you could come across some amazing opportunities.
- Get out of the echo chamber. Look for, and consider, other points of view - it can teach you a lot more than always surrounding yourself with people who think the same way.
- Don’t overthink things. Even if things don’t go to plan, it doesn’t matter. Move on to the next challenge and try to learn from your experience.
Today, why not challenge yourself to be a little more open-minded and start pushing yourself out of your comfort zone? You don’t have to try everything at once either; if the list seems daunting at first, try going a step at a time.
