Summer is a time to let your hair down and enjoy yourself. But sometimes the student budget doesn’t have room for everything you wanna do…

In addition to great weather, summer offers long days that can be spent however you want. This is your time to finally rest and recharge your batteries for the next academic year, so it’s essential to spend the summer doing what you love. Thankfully, the fun doesn't have to be expensive! Here are some tips on how you can take advantage of the long, hot summer days on a student budget:

Surrounded by nature

For nature lovers, the days spent outside will always be the most memorable. National parks, like the Peak District, are a good choice because they offer unique views for free (or for a small fee). The UK has many national parks and the summer is long enough to visit at least a few. Most of them have a designated camping area so you can stay there overnight and take in the scenery.

You could also try out geocaching. It is an outdoor treasure-hunting game that can get very addictive. It involves looking for small containers left by other players around the world. There are over 3 million boxes to find! Just download the Geocaching app and create a profile.

Advanced booking deals

If you prefer sightseeing, it’s worth planning a city break or holiday well in advance. If you plan your trip early enough, you’ll avoid high airfare and hotel prices, and if you book your train or bus tickets a few weeks in advance, they’ll be much cheaper than usual.

Look for deals on flight scanning pages - you can find many deals there, even tickets for a few pounds! Maybe you can make a quick trip to France or Italy? Try something outside the city centre, it will be much cheaper. What's more, most capitals offer students free entry to their museums and attractions.

Pro tip: use an incognito tab to book things and clear your cookies to get the best prices.

Beach, please!

Summer = beach trips. Nothing cools you down more on hot days than taking a dip in the sea and it's also a great way to spend time with friends. You could bring a picnic, play games, or even take a romantic stroll with your SO.

Sunshine in your neighbourhood

If you don't want to leave your city, you should check out what's going on in your neighbourhood. Many museums offer free entry for students, so if you're a fan of art and themed exhibitions, this is a great way to spend your day. Or if you prefer a little adrenaline, look for info on amusement parks. You will probably spend a few pounds there, but the thrills will be worth it.
