Are you studying where and what your favourite celebrities did?

The results are in. For the A Level students among you, D-Day has come and you know whether you’ve got into your university of choice. But as some of you breathe a sigh of relief, others will have been on UCAS’ website all week looking at different options.

As your future begins to take shape, here’s a look at where some well-known people studied, and whether their course helped them in their career pathway - will you be studying at any of their former universities?

1. St Mary’s University, Twickenham: Joe Wicks, fitness coach

The health and wellbeing guru who carried the whole of Britain on a fitness journey throughout the lockdown period graduated from St Mary’s University with a degree in Sports Science. Since uni, Joe has helped many people across the world with his fitness and diet plans whilst also creating healthy cookbooks and posting YouTube workouts for anyone to try.

 2. University of Oxford: Emma Watson, actor

The famous actor had a hugely successful school life achieving As and A*s across the board in her GCSEs and AS levels. After taking a gap year after her AS levels to film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Emma started university at Browns University in Rhode Island, USA, and then returned to England to study English Literature at the prestigious University of Oxford

3. University of Exeter: JK Rowling, author

Carrying on with the theme of Harry Potter, the author of the famous novels chose to study French and Classics at the University of Exeter after failing to get into Oxford. She went on to be a successful author, winning many awards in the publishing industry, including Children’s Book of the Year and the Hugo Award for Best Novel.

4. University of Arizona: Kourtney Kardashian, media personality

The world famous media personality, socialite and model studied Theatre of Arts with Spanish at the University of Arizona. Kourtney has since then become one of the biggest influencers in the world, having nearly 100 million Instagram followers, not to mention her TV appearances with her family on Keeping up with the Kardashians.

5. University of Pennsylvania: Hector Bellerin, footballer

Taking a different approach to higher education, Arsenal FC’s Hector Bellerin took an online course in Marketing at the University of Pennsylvania. With the majority of universities now offering blended learning due to Covid-19, online courses are becoming more and more popular, especially for those with full time jobs. Hector is now a renowned footballer playing for Arsenal, and has made over 150 appearances for the club. He has also recently started a YouTube channel which includes vlogs and podcasts on a variety of different subjects, so maybe his Marketing degree has stood him in good stead for understanding how to reinvent himself as a social media influencer!

Here’s hoping everyone got what they needed for their university place this year, and remember, if you’ve had to change your course - or even your university - don’t worry, these celebrities show that your future isn’t always aligned with your first choice of university or subject.
