Natalia’s Student Diaries: Adopting a seal in lockdown

This week, find out how Natalia is saving energy, adopting wildlife, and visiting museums across the globe from the comfort of her bedroom.

Another week has passed so quickly. All of a sudden I’ve found myself drowning in assignments and internship work. However, as I was saying a few days ago, it’s important to stay positive. It’s just a shame that this positivity can't write my essays for me!

Anyway, this week I'm coming with fresh vibes as I am loving the weather outside. I've always wanted a real winter here in the UK, as the climate is slightly warmer than in my home country, and here it is. I love snow, skiing, sledging, and winter walks.

What I miss is the mountains and slopes; I was hoping to learn snowboarding this year during the Christmas break. Unfortunately, the coronavirus has ruined those plans.

This week, I had an online dinner with my relatives. It's important to nurture your family relationships, especially when you're far away from them. We were talking, laughing, and reminiscing on the last year and it was nice to have a moment to appreciate my loved ones. My parents, my grandma, and my sister joined the video call. In my opinion, there’s nothing funnier and more adorable than seniors using technology!

I'm sure we’re all aware of the importance of saving energy and being eco-friendly. I recently discovered a website that offers free products to help regulate your water usage. You can order shower regulators, tap inserts, and water saving gel; I've ordered some regulators and inserts and I can already see a difference in my bills.

While we’re on the subject of eco-friendliness, I thought I’d let you guys know that I adopted a seal a few days ago via the WWF website. I pay a monthly fee to help the organisation with their conservation efforts, and in return I get a certificate of adoption, as well as some photos of my new mammal friend!

Next week I'm planning to help my friend with her assignment, before we take some virtual tours of famous museums. Loads of museums and galleries are currently offering virtual attractions, tours and meetings, many of which are free, so I’d highly recommend having a browse. It’s a great, affordable way of hanging out with your friends without having to meet up in person.

Until next weekend, stay safe and try to enjoy yourselves!
