Looking to travel during the pandemic? Check out the safest destinations.

Thanks to the pandemic, most of us are itching to go on holiday. However, with the spectre of Covid-19 still looming large, potential holidaymakers would be forgiven for feeling somewhat apprehensive. However, you can visit several places in Europe and rest assured that you’re safe from contracting or spreading the virus.

Provided you’ve had your vaccine and taken a test to prove you’re Covid-free, here are some of Europe’s safest destinations to visit for a much-needed break:

1. Tbilisi, Georgia

Located at the intersection of Europe and Asia, Georgia’s capital is one of the safest nearby travel destinations, with fewer Covid-related deaths than most European nations.

During the pandemic’s early stages, the Georgian government shut down its borders to keep its citizens and travellers safe. This was an effective policy, as indicated by their low case rate and death toll.

Tbilisi’s magnificent Haussmannian architecture dates back to the Middle Ages, meaning you’ll be surrounded by history wherever you go. In addition to this, the country’s Soviet-style, neoclassical, and modern housing makes for some breathtaking city views. There are tonnes of sights to see, including the peace bridge, sulphur baths, and the Metekhi Church. There’s also loads of fun to be had at the Mtatsminda amusement park.

Renting a car will make sightseeing a lot easier. Just be aware that you’ll need an international drivers license to get around.

2. Lagoa, Portugal

Lagoa is in the Algarve region of Portugal. The area has been virtually untouched by covid-19 in recent months, making it one of the safest places to visit in Europe. The region is sparsely populated, which, combined with low case rates, makes it a stress-free destination for potential holidaymakers.

The Algarve has some beautiful sights. Lagoa is packed with sun-drenched beaches, such as Marinha, Praia Nova, and Cova Redonda.

3. Kefalonia, Greece

The island of Kefalonia is one of the safest travel destinations in Greece. It has low Covid rates and houses many of Greece's hidden gems.

If you’re craving the feeling of an old fishing village, then Kefalonia is for you. The island is home to Melissani Cave, regarded as one of Greece's natural treasures. You also have Navagio beach, which is one of Greece's most beautiful beaches. You won’t want to miss out on this one!

4. Cavtat, Croatia

Cavtat is a great destination for those who enjoy life’s simple pleasures. It is a small town with a diverse history, art, music, and cultural attractions.

You can also get top-notch accommodation here, and Cavtat offers a wide range of services to tourists, which, combined with its low infection rates, makes it one of the safest and most suitable places to travel.

Final thoughts

Even during the Covid era, there are plenty of different places you can safely visit in Europe once international travel is permitted again. Just be sure to check the government’s foreign travel advice and be prepared for the possibility of having to isolate upon return from certain destinations.
