Are you planning on revising for your exams by pulling an all-nighter? We've got a better solution.

All students know the feeling of pulling their hair out and choosing between sleeping or further studying in the middle of the night. On the other hand, a strong desire to achieve the best possible grades is chasing their tail. Although it seems to be, the situation is not a lose-lose! Why don’t you get some high marks and feel as fresh as a daisy at once? You don’t have to worry about being sleepy anymore. Here are some tips on how to revise for exams without losing any sleep:

1. Planning is key

Remember that a good plan is essential while preparing to revise for exams. The best way for effective learning is to do the schedule and try to stick to it as much as you can. Create a plan before you start studying so that you don’t waste time later. Check and analyse all requirements to be sure that you have enough time for revision. While starting your exam period, don’t procrastinate! Remember, time is your biggest enemy. It’s always better to work hard for some time than regret it. There is no need to lose summertime for retaking the exams, right?

2. Sleep is a priority

When some thoughts come to your mind and tell you to spare the night for study, be no fool! Think about the fact of how productive and creative you are after a beauty sleep. Even though exam time can cause panic, don’t wake up in the middle of the night to revise. One, you need sleep to save energy for the next few days. And two, your brain can remember this behaviour and wake you up at the same time the next night. It means you can achieve the opposite effects you wanted. Sleep-deprived people manage less well in tasks than refreshed ones. It affects your wellbeing, and consequently your results. You can lose more than an extra couple of revision hours by not sleeping. It's not worth it, is it? One more tip: try to use paper notes or books instead of electronic devices before sleeping. Blue light causes problems with sleep patterns.

3. Take regular breaks

Revising for exams is quite a stressful and exhausting time. That’s why you need to have breaks. While arranging the plan, find some time to wind down. You can either go for a walk, listen to your favourite music or have a bath. Taking a breath of fresh air outside is always a good idea. It’ll boost your energy as well as productivity. If you feel bored or sleepy while studying, do some exercise. It can restart your body and mind for the rest of the day as well as increase the depth of sleep at night. It’s key to stay active during the daytime and clear your head at night.

4. Eat healthily

It’s important to observe what and when you eat and drink. The different kinds of food cause various effects. It’s crucial to check what works well for you and eat healthy brain meals. For example, have you tried fresh fruits or vegetables as a mid-afternoon snack, as opposed to a chocolate bar?  Or what about some nuts? All of these foods will help you stay focused and energised for the rest of the day, they enhance recognition and memory skills.

And obviously, coffee is a great way to start a day (you don’t need to tell us twice)! So long as you don’t overboard with caffeine. It raises blood pressure levels which affect the nervous system. It means the expected results can be the opposite of what you were aiming for. Monitor and take care of how much you drink it and you’ll be fine!

5. Don’t panic

Remember, there is always a good way out of a situation. However, neither panic nor frustration is ever the best way. You can be worried or stressed during the exams period, of course. But, it’s key to find some ways to handle it. Try not to worry or overthink too much. And if it happens, deal with it in a positive way. Check what works well for you and control the situation. Calm down and avoid cramming until late because of stress. Talk to your family or friends, relax in your fav spot and don’t let your fears overcome you! Hold the line and your high marks will be the best award.
